OT: Anyone else so desperate for sports you're watching hot dog eating?
I just watch The Game on YouTube tv
LOL, last night I saw a 26 minute version also on YouTube - GLORIOUS!!!
Yeah, sports wise this time of the year sucks balls....
As long as we are going down the OT rabbit hole, a 2021 U-M study hypothesizes that eating a hot dog could cost you 36 minutes of healthy life.
https://michigantoday.umich.edu/2021/08/27/a-hot-dog-could-cost-you-36-minutes-of-healthy-life/
Hmmm. Thank you. That is actually quite interesting. Summary:
Based on their findings, the researchers suggest:
- Decreasing foods with the most negative health and environmental impacts, including high processed meat, beef, and shrimp, followed by pork, lamb, and greenhouse-grown vegetables.
- Increasing the most nutritionally beneficial foods, including field-grown fruits and vegetables, legumes, nuts, and low-environmental-impact seafood.
The condemnation of greenhouse-grown vegetables is new to me. I'd be curious about what is the best seafood to eat. Sorry to see shrimp on the list of bad stuff. And surprised about lamb.
gonna shave 144 minutes off my life on Tuesday, then
I thought hot dog contest was on the 4th every year?
Can confirm. Nathan’s Hotdog Eating Contest is always on the 4th. OP is watching 2022’s rerun.
Wow! I'm more desperate than I realized!
At noon I watched what my broke dick cable company listed as the 2023 contest. Turns out it was from 2018. You were not alone in being misled.
Desperate?? Are you nuts? I live for the Nathan's contest. I watch it every year and, being originally from Brooklyn, have actually attended two of them. Apart from the contest, the scene on the Coney Island boardwalk is amazing. Just a fabulous good time for thousands of people.
Joey is the GOAT!
I'd rather be on the boardwalk for the Mermaid Parade. Now that's a blast.
That would be....really desperate. I'm not there yet.
I have a couple nephews who are so desperate for hot dogs (and hamburgers) that they watch sports.
"Want to go to a baseball game?" ... "Nope" ... "All you can eat hot dogs and hamburgers" ... "Yup"
No. But I'm so desperate for new content I clicked on this post!
....and you weren't disappointed. 😁
A classic Fab 5 victory over msu is playing right now on BTN
Thoughts on the game:
1. Thank goodness for HD. The players were so blurry it was hard to watch.
2. Everything was so compacted near the basket. The 3 point line was only 19’9”, but it hardly impacted the game. CWebb tried some ill-advised 3s. He was a much better shooter from distance in the pros.
3. Juwan had a monster game, 15 and 13, or thereabouts.
4. We played a lot of 2 bigs. 2 of Webber, Howard, and Riley were on the court for about the whole game. Makes me wonder why Juwan didn’t try to get more twin towers action out of HD and Tarris. Yes, today’s game is different, but the goal is the same.
5. The officials were awful. Some things never change.
I'm busy reliving my childhood via youtube, watching NFL games from 1983 and 84. The Raiders and 49ers were so much fun to watch back then, especially MNF
I also wish the Tigers were a bit better. I'm surprised nobody has posted on the recent Big 12 expansion announcement.
The Tigers are unwatchable, it sucks.
I’m watching “The Looming Tower” again on Hulu.
I can’t watch baseball. It’s just too slow.
I like baseball because there's a lot to contemplate in between the action. It's definitely a patient man's game.
The pitch clock has been an incredible improvement. I wonder if people complaining about the speed of the game have watched a game this year.
True. I've heard that some people complain that the games are going too fast. Those are mostly night games where drinking and socializing are part of the festivities, not just the game (maybe not the game at all, in some instances). I think the pitch clock helps a lot, though.
Baseball is great because you can start a game, fall asleep in the 3rd inning, wake up and not have missed much and the commentary will share any highlights.
Great entertainment for a lazy Sunday - watched Baltimore and the Twins today and it was entertaining.
Watching Hallmark Channel Christmas in July instead.
"Watching Hallmark Channel Christmas in July instead."
Okay. You definitely win the desperation contest. I'll go back to the hot dogs...
Tour de France is my July outlet. Hours every morning.
Nothing desperate about the Tour, that some serious sports effort there. Some of it is just pacing, but the drama of the breakaways vs the peloton, the last 5km of the sprints, and the ridiculous climbs/descents is genuinely gripping.
Contemplating watching the inside of my eyelids. Feeling a bit nappish on this rainy day. 🙂
The Tigers are only a few games out of first
But you'd rather watch hot dog eating instead of baseball?
Cool
Just goes to show how truly awful the AL Central is.
The Red Sox would be in first place in that division right now. And they’re in last place in the East.
I think every team in the AL East is over .500. Not sure how often that happens at this point in the season, but it can’t happen very often.
Boston Sucks.
I don’t disagree, but the fact is still very much true in that they would be in first place in the AL Central right now.
And if Boston is in last place in the East, that says a lot about the state of the AL Central.
4.5 games out, 10 games under .500
But as your mentioned only 4.5 games out of first and currently beating the Rockies 10-6.
Manning just came back. Skubal makes his first start of the year this week. Rodriguez should be back soon also
All they have to do is get hot. It's been fun watching this young team grow.
Nope. I rewatch games from last season when I'm bored. And right now I'm rewatching the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Starting with VCU right now, just got to halftime. This team was so much fun!
Hijack on AppleTV is good (I plan to start Platonic as well). The final season of Jack Ryan on Amazon is out. Netflix just dropped a bunch of new content. Women's World Cup is around the corner.
Have a downvote because I would enjoy watching you fall down
Watched the Rocket Mortgage golf tournament from Detroit on CBS Sports app earlier. Won't spoil who won for those watching on delay CBS.
Tigers leading 8-4.
Watched a US pro rugby game yesterday completely by chance. Was a bit fun, but I had idea there was a pro league here.
I'm watching the leak in my brand new window.
LOL!!! I just turned off the 30 for 30 episode about Joey Chestnut and Takao Kobayashi - the world eating champions! How sad...
You want to kill time? This link is to the records page for major league competitive eating:

you can thank me later…
For the record, Kobayashi can hammer down Cow Brains.
God yes. This time of year is the worst for me. Don’t like baseball, golf, or endurance race type stuff. It’s a real struggle.
I gave away my TV. I guess I have 63 days to buy another one.
Instead of sports, I watch videos about the war in Ukraine, hoping to see the Ukrainians break free like Donovan Edwards against the Bucknuts.
They call it the dog days of summer for a reason. This is hands down the worst time of the year for sports. I pay peripheral attention, at best, to baseball, and I’ve never remotely been into golf or tennis.
Hell, this is just the worst time of year, period. Both kids have been home from daycare since the end of May and I love them to death, but having to listen to Moana, Blues Clues and Lion King on loop when I’m trying to work is nauseating. Add to that the fact that the heat and humidity down here in Atlanta are starting to hit their annual levels of absolute peak misery, to the point where you really don’t wanna be outside much past 9 AM. So they can’t go outside as much as they want to, and their cooped up inside most of the day.
Weather starts to get a smidge better around Labor Day, but the days where it’s pleasant to be outside at any given point are pretty much done-zo until the end of September.
Sorry, what are we talking about? Oh yeah, there’s definitely nothing sports worthy on this time of year.
I'm watching the Yankees/Cardinals game last night that I missed because I watched M3gan and another body horror thing, Contracted. Watching this afternoon's game between the same two squads afterward. Not a fan of competitive eating, though it does seem the most truly American of sports: gorging food that you don't really want (bare hotdogs dipped in water, yum) to a ridiculous excess you'll probably vomit up later, all to get on the t.v. and maybe win some prize money. God bless the U.S.A. They shoot horses, don't they?
Definitely a lull going on. Mets suck. East Coast is hot and humid. I ain't mad at you.
30 for 30 did a special on Kobayashi btw
I am down to just Lions and Wolverines. I cannot watch the bad baseball Detroit has played for 10 years. They weaned me off a lifelong passion. Nice work Al A.
Never got back into the wings after the Dead Wings and didn't want to be a bandwagon jumper when they had all the Stevie Y success. I still pull for my hometown teams but from afar...very afar.
Golf since Tiger left and with the LIV fiasco has soured for me. Probably just too stuck in my ways and stubborn.
Lot of great adventures to be had in travels with the extra time to be filled. Youtube junkie chasing any subject of passing interest with a few regulars.
