OT: Angels mourn/celebrate Tyler Skaggs with 13-0 No Hitter

Submitted by ChalmersE on July 13th, 2019 at 2:59 AM

Last night was the first time the Angels played a home game since Tyler Skaggs passed. To honor Skaggs, every Angel wore Skaggs 45 jerseys. First pitch went to Skaggs’ mother who threw a perfect strike to Skaggs’ best friend on the Angels. Then the Angels scored seven runs in the first, including a Mike Trout bomb, and won 13-0. To put the icing on the cake, Taylor Cole and Felix Pena combined on a no-hitter. Then after the game, the Angel players circled the pitcher’s mound and proceeded to take off their Skaggs’ jerseys and drape them on the mound.

And, how about these “coincidences”:

— as noted the Angels scored 7 in the first and 13 for the game. Skaggs’ birthday: July 13th.

— the last combined no-hitter to be pitched in California occurred on July 13, 1991, the day Skaggs was born.

Is there any possibility that this no hitter was staged? I know that sounds crass but I can’t be the only one who thought this. It wouldn’t bother me if it were. I think it’s really amazing either way.

Well, let’s talk this through.

Who do you think would’ve proposed this conspiracy?

If you were the one in charge of the conspiracy, how would you make it happen?

How many players, umpires, and others do you think would need to be involved?

Seattle had 13 ground outs and 4 fly outs.  How do you make sure the the players involved only hit the ball at someone?

How would you ensure that this conspiracy wasn’t leaked to the media?

Would you place a wager with a sports book?

It was like that time Dale Jr won the next Daytona race after Dale Sr died.  People thought it was fishy.  Yeah, all these $30m per year race teams just said "fuck our sponsors, we will lose on purpose so ESPN can have a feel good story".....Not bloody likely.

You need to re-fold your tin foil hat so it fits better on your pointy noggin.  Your crazy is getting out...

EDIT:  Meant this as a reply to Marvin, sorry OP!

The Angels put on their Big Boy Pants and honored their deceased team mate Tyler Skaggs.

Then, after they pulled of an incredible dream-like victory, they all took off their jerseys with Skaggs' name and #45 on every shirt--and carefully laid them around the mound--emblazoned with the  #45 tribute painted just past the pitching rubber.............

In the first inning,Mike Trout rocketed the first pitch towards Heaven and set a personal record for slowly rounding the bases as the crowd exploded with a  spontaneous wild celebration and all eyes immediately switched towards the stunned Skaggs family upstairs in a VIP box....

Trout also doubled in the same inning as the Angels scored 7 runs in the first inning of the first home game since Skaggs died in his Dallas-area hotel room just before the All-Star break.

.  He had 6 RBI and led the way for his former room mate to go out in style after Skaggs' mother threw out the first pitch.

It was a unique  one night show of an emotional team united for a riveting display of intensity and pride.......

Classic Memory.that will stand out in Baseball Lore for years to come..........

I just saw the ESPN Sport Center piece on last night's Angels-Mariners game, including the ending, where the mound is draped with the #45 shirts in honor of Tyler Skaggs.

Very touching tribute indeed.

The no-hitter was incredible but draping their jerseys over the mound really moved me. It was such a spontaneous, artful show of respect and love.

Sports are great.

Most of the time sports can seem like just a distraction from the day to day, then there is this.  Not a lot of things can move me to tears but what tribute to a person's life.
