OT: American Pharoah wins the Triple Crown!

Submitted by WolvWild on

Surprised there isn't already a thread!

What a race, lead from start to finish.  I will say it seemed like the other jockeys just allowed him to set the pace and then open it up at the end there.

That being said, thrilled to finally see a Triple Crown in my lifetime.

Yeah, so today I'm driving in the car with my kids - 12 year old boy and 9 year old girl - and a song comes on the radio.

Girl:  "Who's Madonna?"

Boy:  "Yeah, who is that?"

I told them they'll get theirs some day.   One day one of your kids will say:  "Taylor Swift?  Who's that?

I read an article recently about how some "scientists" had proven that winning the Triple Crown was supposed to be physically impossible.  Then boom, this happens.

Great job, American Pharaoh.  I feel bad for rooting against you in the Derby.

This race felt different than previous Triple Crown attempts though.  Maybe it was his performance in the Preakness that convinced me, but it really seemed like he had it going into the race.

Lots of experts thought the road was just too tough anymore, that racehorses were bred for speed and not necessarily durability.

What a great last 6 weeks. Last race he'll ever run. Win, lose or draw he is headed to stand at stud.

Dealer Camel, you are unfortunately too educated and have spelled Pharaoh correctly.   (Upvoted you accordingly.)

However, the horse's name is American Pharoah as in the OP.  It was accidentally misspelled when registered and now must remain as is.  Will refrain from suggesting this contributes further to the dumbing down of America.

Either way, sure is a damn fine beautiful horse!

AP the best in 37 years???  Affirmed.  Raising another Woodford Reserve Bourbon in honor of this fine filly.  Damn fine race, fine horse, fine bourbon.  Going to be a great night!

There are few things as elegant as a Thoroughbred in full gait.  Congratulations to American Pharoah.  Impressive race, impressive win.

Will do. North idle downs is not that far from my house, so I may check that out this summer. The talent level won't be very high but it could be fun.
