OT: American Pharoah wins the Triple Crown!
Surprised there isn't already a thread!
What a race, lead from start to finish. I will say it seemed like the other jockeys just allowed him to set the pace and then open it up at the end there.
That being said, thrilled to finally see a Triple Crown in my lifetime.

i still don't think miggy got his just due for what he did a few years ago
some team wins the super bowl every year. a lot of people still get excited about that.
Yeah, I don't actually follow the sport but I know it hadn't been done in my lifetime, so this is cool to hear.
and then go absent for decades.
I'm old enough to remember Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and Affirmed.
And also the sad match race between the 1975 Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure and the previously undefeated filly Ruffian.
Yeah, all of the 'first in my lifetime' notes I'm seeing are making me feel a bit old.
Yeah, so today I'm driving in the car with my kids - 12 year old boy and 9 year old girl - and a song comes on the radio.
Girl: "Who's Madonna?"
Boy: "Yeah, who is that?"
I told them they'll get theirs some day. One day one of your kids will say: "Taylor Swift? Who's that?"
RIP to two wonderful fillies.
I read an article recently about how some "scientists" had proven that winning the Triple Crown was supposed to be physically impossible. Then boom, this happens.
Great job, American Pharaoh. I feel bad for rooting against you in the Derby.
This race felt different than previous Triple Crown attempts though. Maybe it was his performance in the Preakness that convinced me, but it really seemed like he had it going into the race.
to follow racing and the Triple Crown. So happy today.
What a great last 6 weeks. Last race he'll ever run. Win, lose or draw he is headed to stand at stud.

Dealer Camel, you are unfortunately too educated and have spelled Pharaoh correctly. (Upvoted you accordingly.)
However, the horse's name is American Pharoah as in the OP. It was accidentally misspelled when registered and now must remain as is. Will refrain from suggesting this contributes further to the dumbing down of America.
Either way, sure is a damn fine beautiful horse!

Imagine if Harbaugh had been the jockey. How many lengths does American Pharoah win by then? 20+? 25+ if shirtless?

Maybe curly fries. This has to be as special as a Red Wing getting a hat trick.

Having Empire Maker in his sire line should really help.
Horse racing gymnastics
Surprisingly, the jockey walked away from that.

When I'll Have Another didn't race a couple years back. I know he might not have won, but given the way he took the first two races at the last second, I was hoping for the ultimate Triple Crown victory.
I've been crushed at the other failures at the Belmont, I have always followed the Triple Crown since I was a kid and I thought the same.
Wow!! 37 years!!
I feel like I'll be telling my kids about this someday...I'm glad I waited to watch it.

There are few things as elegant as a Thoroughbred in full gait. Congratulations to American Pharoah. Impressive race, impressive win.
