OT - 9-17-12 Tigers vs White Sox. Must win for Tigers
Must win game for Tigers and a crucial game for White Sox. Tigers will either be one game back or 3 games back after today
Fister matching up with Quintana
Tigers up 3-0 in the 3rd, but these Sox are tough, and now have bases loaded with one out to start the bottom 3

have done in the past that gives you a free pass as far as throwing in the towel prematurely this year. Give me a break, you can slice it however you want, but it is what it is.

Who the hell said I was throwing in the towel? Read what I said, because I'm damn sure I said I can't watch anymore games on tv and will just follow box scores from now on. Besides, my fanhood will not be under scrutiny from a nameless, faceless stranger on a blog.
Go Tigers, and enjoy whatever damn opinion you decide you want to bestow upon my fanhood.

That about sums it up.

the same time it isn't over yet. The odds aren't in their favor obviously, but after what happened last year with Wild Card races we learnd that it isn't over until it's over. Hopefully LA and TB can beat up on Chicago. Not to mention some help from KC is possible as they have had Chicago's number. Of course, that doesn't matter unless the Tigers put together a great last 16 games.
Also the Tigers play the next 10 at home. They have been a completely different team at home. So in short it doesn't look good, but it's not time to throw in the towel yet. I don't see a team that has given up, if they had given up they would be getting blown out, not losing close one run ball games.

A team can only lose so many close games before it gets to them mentally, if the Sox only go 9-7 down the stretch the Tigers have to go 12-4 just to tie. I have not seen any evidence that this team has what it takes to put a stretch like that together.

the Tigers have been very good at home in the second half. I am pretty sure they have had a couple of 12-4 type stretches on the year, so I fail to see how they aren't capable of that, given the fact that Oakland is the only team they play above .500.
Like I said, Chicago doesn't have a cakewalk down the stretch, KC has had their number all year and they have 7 against LA and TB. I could definatly see the White Sox only going .500 in the last 16.

Tigers are 2-13 in one run games since August 9. That just isn't going to cut it.

"should win." Hey, Detroit has an easier schedule in the final weeks, right? Tigers go 13-3, getting swept by the resurgent A's but sweeping the Twins and Royals. White Sox go 9-7, getting swept by the Rays and Angels but sweep the Royals and Indians. Or figure the rest of the games will go *something* like that, based on the SOS. Even in that unlikely scenario, the Tigers only win the Central by a game. A GAME!!! Anyone who says there are still plenty of games left, hey that's fine but yesterday and today were monumentally important and now the Tigers have a steeeeeeep uphill climb, no longer in control of their own destiny.

is running out and they are going to need help, but on the other end of the spectrum time hasn't completely run out yet. A 3 game lead with 16 games left is not safe by any stretch.

Short of injury, I don't think the White Sox will lose to the Tigers. They're hungry (after coming in 2nd last year.) More than that, Dunn is now healthy, and they won't throw away games defensively. I have real doubts about how far they'll go, but you never know in the post season. They actually have decent bats, good pitching, and good defense. They certainly could catch lightning in a bottle, and go further than many expect. Doubtful, but it could happen.

quite yet. Both Atlanta and Boston, blew bigger leads than 3 games last year.
