Not sure what to think about this information, if it's true. OSU's recruiting class seems to be falling apart relative to their standards, and a bunch of dudes are transferring out, so one way to view this is desperation. On the other hand, maybe you say it's best-in-class comp for players that sets a standard.

I think Harrison should go to the NFL. He's not playing for a rookie contract; he's playing for the next one. But I didn't realize Henderson was considered a 1st-round talent, especially with his injury history. If he won't see that first round money, maybe it's a good move for him.

As for the recruiting consequences, I think it's a wash. On one hand, the great players get paid and this creates a carrot similar to what Michigan currently provides. On the other hand, if you're a kid focused on playing time and these big names keep coming back, maybe you look elsewhere.

Wouldn't Harrison playing in the bowl game be insane?

And why hasn't Ryan Day quashed Harrison playing in the bowl game?

Let me take it one step further, it looks like Ryan Day would let Harrison play in a meaningless bowl game and risk his entire career.  Which to me is the ultimate signal that this guy isn't the coach you want to play for.

WRs and RBs have short NFL careers. One year of 1st round money to stay is nice. A five year contract of 1st year money with a guarantee clause in case of injury is nicer. So if either sticks around, it is solely about winning at OSU and sticking with their team, because the numbers do not make sense.

There is absurdly more passing now than 15 years ago. WR careers are going to shorten like RB careers as they get more targets, touches, and blocks IMO. In fact I could see RB career lengths increasing as WR careers decrease. Harrison is going to have an outstanding NFL career. Just not sure how many WRs from now on are going to see 15 year careers. So he for his own sake should get on it ... asap.

I don’t buy it. High first rounders basically sign a $50 million contract with about 40% of it up front in signing bonus. There’s just no way.

Highly doubt MHJ stays. He would immediately be a top five receiver in the league and would have a rookie contract paying somewhere between $8-10 million a year with a guarantee of $20-25 million. If Ryan Day thought he’d need $13 million to keep the roster last year he’ll need to triple that with these kinds of figures.

MHJ would be dumb to stay, he will make more money next year no doubt.

Henderson will stay, I mean, why not...RBs so undervalued at NFL level, get the bag.

If a group of OSU booster(s) are really crazy enough to offer MHJ $35M to play one more season with the Buckeyes (and I'm skeptical), he still shouldn't take it.

With that amount of money, why not actually go play in the pros, work on your craft full time and generate even more income on the side? QB is projected as a weakness for them next year, whoever it is, and it isn't like he's some kind of lifelong Buckeye fan.

Marvin Harrison is coming back to catch passes from who exactly?  Devin Brown and his 54% completion percentage?  OSU is going to find out the options in the transfer portal aren't any better than the guy they just ran out of town.

No chance this is true. They may offer some money, but there's no chance it's 1st round money. If MHJ is a top 3 pick his signing bonus is $25-$30 million. This is a classic heard it from somebody who knows somebody.

This guy has no idea what he's talking about, or this guy is being cute and saying that it's just the 1st round base salary in year 1, which is always $1MM or less because they're paying out a monster signing bonus.

Portal stuff for OSU is overblown….McCord leaving is mildly shocking, but he’s not the Heisman contender OSU fans demand, and Day might have a guy he feels more comfortable with in the portal. This is somewhat similar to our Cade situation, except we knew we had JJ at the time.

I honestly thought Cade would transfer soon after the 21 season ended.

If you look at the numbers, UM loses roughly 10% of its roster each year to the portal. There will be several exits after the playoffs are over.

now concerning the 1st round money stuff…I get Henderson wanting to stay, MHJ seems ludicrous. He’s like a sure top 5 pick. Maaayyyyybbbbeeeee if he has the best insurance policy possible.

MHJ will get a contract between 6-8 million next year per season (which doesn't even touch the signing bonus), and the bottom end of the first round will receive around 2.5 million.  If Henderson (who I don't think is a first-round pick) returns at 2.5 million, it's a great deal for him and a stupid ROI for the purchaser.

Considering Mahhhzerhati Marvin got injured this year (rolled ankle), I'd think he'd be smart to move onto the NFL where he can then say, "Hey! I saw the same exotic NFL coverage against me when I played Michigan!"

Henderson should be easier to keep at OSU and based on his results vs Michigan this is good for Michigan.   Henderson averaged about 3 yards/carry vs U of M in 2023 while Trayanum averaged 6.1yds/carry.

However, with Henderson's injury history he may be risking his NFL draft level if he is injured again in 2024.  If OSU will pay him $1m or more may be worthwhile to stay although IMHO he will end up with less total career value if he waits to be drafted.

Marvin Harrison should be looking at 7-8 million/year for 5 years-   If OSU pays him 8M, he would likely break even as long as  he doesn't sustain a serious injury.

There is no way OSU can compete with top 5 NFL pick money. We’re talking $25+ million guaranteed. Even if they did come anywhere near that number it would be hilarious to watch them spend it all on a WR instead of using a fraction of that money to buy every 5 star O/D-lineman in the country.

LOL! Fine, Let them spend that much NIL money on one overrated, injury prone RB and the best WR in the country who will no doubt be taking it easy so he doesn't get injured and ruin his shot a zillion times that NIL deal in NFL money and big-time endorsements.

If you're either of these guys, you have to be thinking it's a choice between one year of first round money and the potential of injury, vs. a contract with first-year money and more guaranteed on top of it.

If you're either of those guys and you get hurt, are you content with that year of NIL, whatever your insurance money is, a lesser contract/NFL career, and whatever you can make with a lifetime of signing autographs in Central Ohio? Personally, I'd take that NFL money and run.

There is no upside for MHJ, unless he thinks that they are going to win a championship with QB-to-be-determined and he values that championship over starting a possible HOF pro career.  His draft stock cannot improve any more than it already has.  The odds of getting hurt greatly outweigh the odds of moving up in the eyes of NFL teams.  His family has money, but neither money nor insurance can replace a chance to play at the highest level.

With Henderson's injury history, it could go either way.  You might make it through the season healthy and boost your stock, but any additional injuries only solidify the "injury-prone" label.

Will Anderson went 3rd overall ( Harrison JR range) and received a 20+ million dollar sign on bonus..

Henderson, It's risky but might be worth considering.. I would personally use those resources elsewhere, like Dline, Oline, LBs

I take this to mean that they are overextending to keep MHjr in a different way:

It is likely they need to guarantee Marv’s stay to get their next QB and it is also likely that they need to guarantee their next QB to keep Marv. And they may be trying to promise these things to both before either can be guaranteed true.

E.g., no way Marv stays if the next OSU QB isn’t guaranteed to be better than McCord. And yet one guy or the other is bound to have to make his decision before knowing for sure.

What gets me about the idea that the portal will grant them a better QB than McCord is that there aren't that many QBs out there who look to be better than McCord actually played last year.  Is Cam Ward or Will Howard going to be better than McCord?  Maybe, but there's a good chance they'll struggle just as much against better defenses.  Riley Leonard looked solid at times, then got hurt and never quite got back to playing well.  Dillon Gabriel is a veteran but this is also his third team and he basically left the last 2 because he was beaten out for a job/wasn't assured of more playing time, so that might be a high floor/low ceiling guy.

Harrison should go pro because he's one Zak Zinter-type injury away from losing millions of dollars.  Zinter I think will bounce back a bit better because he's an OL an you aren't expected to fly up and down the field but especially skill position guys have to get paid ASAP.  Like, I totally get Edwards wanting to bolt after this season even if it might not be high in the draft because more wear-and-tear isn't going to help him.

OSU has had a run of good college QBs because they had a coaching staff that knew how to get the most out of their talents, few of which transferred to the NFL — especially since the jury is still out on Fields (but it ain’t looking good). And then they had a generational talent in Stroud who [checking notes] couldn’t beat Michigan. Fact is, it’s hard to project HS talent to QB at the college level, and college QB play to the NFL. Evaluators are wrong more often than not. They can evaluate tangibles, but success at that position is determined by intangibles.

If, prior to JJ, Michigan had had even decent QB play Harbaugh would be an absolute legend and would have maybe 2 losses to OSU. Guys we were excited about just never panned out. This, again, goes to the fact that OSU has had an incredible streak of good fortune at the QB position, which had to end sometime. No school can keep that going forever because there will always be whiffs in there. UM had an incredible streak of bad luck until JJ came along. Whether he has been fully operationalized is another question, but he’s a quantum leap over what Harbaugh has had to work with until now.
