Open Thread: Semifinals - USA vs. Canada
This is what hockey is all about. Two fierce rivals going head to head with a chance to play for Gold on the line. Sweden has already defeated its rival, Finland, and awaits the winner of USA vs. Canada.
I certainly haven't forgotten about 4 years ago, as I imagine is the case with every fan of US hockey. "Zach Parise out of a net-bound scramble, and the game is tied..." Pure elation followed by devastation. As one wise commenter on the blog stated, the effects of that game were clearly shown on the players faces. The aftermath of the final in Vancouver did not have the feel of friendly congratulations that were seen in Salt Lake City 8 years prior. Let's hope this team wants revenge as much as us fans do.

I'm not a big nationalist or "patriot", and I root against the US in some sports (mainly basketball). But hockey is one that I'm pure red, white and blue.

WTF, dude?

I've never really felt a national pride in sports. Club over country, as they say in soccer.

it felt good

4 years in the making. I haven't forgeotten the feeling fours years ago, and yesterday's Women's game had a similar feel. I have no doubts that the US will leave it all on the ice today.
My only concern is the shakeup to the D pairings with Martin being out... which I think is a much bigger loss than Tavares for Canada.

USA looks better right now for sure, but I think (hope) playing a more north american style game works in Canada's favour.

use the NBC olympics site. It prompts you to select your cable provider and login using those credentials (in my case directv)... I've been able to stream the last couple games at work.

Yeah but it's so overloaded, it's not responding.

Pretty sure www.nbcolympics.com is streaming everything in the Olympics it can.

Canadian team looks much more cohesive so far. Much more fluid lines and a stiffer back line.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:23 PM ^
They're making the same sloppy, cross-ice passes that the women were making.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:25 PM ^

and put it right in his chest. This is awful.

For a game of this stature, it's kind of been a relatively boring game. And I'm a hockey fan.
