On3 Recruiting Director predicts Darien Mayo to Michigan
Some good news here!
Darien Mayo is a highly sought after 6'7, 250 lb Edge prospect from Olney, Maryland.
Chad Simmons logged a prediction(with a decent confidence, nothing too glaring) for Mayo to commit to Michigan today. Simmons is the Director of Recruiting for On3. Michigan is fighting Clemson and OSU for his commitment.
This should say that he logged the prediction for today, not that he is expected to commit today! That wording is a bit misleading.
When you say battling Clemson and Ohio State, you really mean battling Clemson. Because, these days, we take what we want from Ohio State.

No balls?
I'm not excited until there are balls.
Appears to be a teammate of top LB target Aaron Chiles.
Would be quite the duo from the same school
Ahhh, thanks. That is good to hear and definitely helps.
looks like we might be able to hold the mayo
Throw that gatorade away. It's mayo time!
Is he an officer and a gentleman?
With Mayo in the fold, it'll be a miracle if we don't whip OSU.
A lot of opposing OTs will for sure. I can’t stand the stuff myself
XM, you should consider trying Duke's Mayo, I find it better than Hellmann's. As they say on the jar, "It's got Twang"
His spurning of other offers are known as Mayo nays...
ranking variance is incredible. 247 has him as the #36 edge in the country and #12 player in Maryland. I cannot believe that there are 11 better players in the state of Maryland.
Offers from Michigan, OSU, Clemson, Auburn, Notre Dame, USC, Florida, Florida St., etc. I think some of the services might be undervaluing him at the moment.
Seems like there is a handful of players that Michigan has committed or is in on that will be getting rating bumps. In addition to Mayo, Manuel Beigel got UGA and PSU offers a month or so back and the recent camp film of him is crazy. He's 6'5" 285 and moves like a LB. Sam Webb said last week that 247 East Coast analyst Brian Dohn had put in a request for review of Cole Sullivan to move him to a 4* before he even committed to Michigan
On Mayo, 247 is the only one that's out of step (ESPN is irrelevant).
On3 and rivals have him 89 and 91 overall, respectively. That, with the offers list, would make it surprising of 247 doesn't align more with that.
Here is On3 profile with their composite. Fits in with the post since it was their recruiting director with the prediction.
Your avatar gives me a smile every time I see it.
One of my favorite moments of the game!
I see Mike Morris in his future.
Interesting that UM leads for 4 of the top 29 EDGE players according to them. Hopefully the number 1 guy goes to Bama.
intriguing prospect. he moves very well at that size. cant imagine they have many edge targets higher on their board
Size and frame are a college coaches dream. Not sure he possesses the elite athleticism needed to be a pass rush specialist. seems like smaller guys get that role these days, but those guys can’t be an every down DL.
Looks more like an anchor DE to me, which would be awesome to have someone at his size in that position.
6’7” is huge for an edge. It’s not going to be easy to throw over those outstretched arms.
Now lettuce get some crystal ballz for Bacon and Tom Ato.
.
Exit, stage left...
If we get Chiles too, the last remaining piece is H. Amburger.
Since you've turned a blt into a burger, you can't forget to add some
Was thinking USC was the big threat here. Very welcome news.
Sam Webb was also saying the other day that Mayo was saying that there was a greater than 50% chance that he and Aaron Chiles would be a packaged deal, so this tracks with that given a Chiles commitment only seems to be a matter of time. Hopefully we get both
This may replace the kid from Ohio that we had the lead for a quarter of a century for (Brian Robinson?).
I have not yet seen the film of either, ill have to take a peek later this week. But this kids measurables are amazing.
If he commits, I would imagine it'll then be between Brian Robinson and Dominic Nichols. If had to guess, we get both Mayo and Robinson.
I'm kind of surprised that Robinson hasn't already committed, which leads me to think that he won't be when all is said and done.
He was in the Hamilton-Roebuck camp and I thought he'd commit like they did.
Sam Webb has said that if Robinson keeps his current timeline then he could lose his spot in the class, but there isn't a lack of mutual interest at the moment. Also, said he wouldn't be shocked if he accelerates his timeline given guys like Nichols, Mayo, and Jacob Smith could commit before him
Robinson’s timeline was always that he wanted to take his officials and commit during the summer. Maybe the current state of Michigan’s edge board moves that timeline up, but it’s also possible Michigan fills up before he decides.
He has three officials scheduled, Michigan on June 2nd, Kentucky on the 9th and Penn State on the 16th. So mid-June we could hear something on his end, or we fill up before then. Who knows.
I am too, but, it could very well be he is silent commit because doesn't want to take heat in Ohio right now. Plus, Wingdings CBed him so that's good enough for me.
YES PLEASE!
Our EDGE board is starting to get really crowded and confusing at this point…
Lots of positions getting crowded quick.
OL: 1 more between Baker, Warren, Anderson, Uini
RB: Likely Tatum or Kaapana
EDGE: 2 more from Smith, Mayo, Robinson, Nichols
LB: Are they actually taking 4?
QB and TE are full. Only WR and secondary are wide open.
I think they take 3 more edges
I think it's two... Mayo and Robinson. Nichols seems to me a plan B.
Well Mason Curtis is considered to be taking on that Jaylen Harrell role, so not a true linebacker but more of an edge/LB hybrid. And Cole Sullivan was recruited as a true athlete, the plan is to start him at MIKE since it’s the hardest to learn, but could turn into an EDGE or play that Harrell role too. Only Beasley and Chiles are considered true linebackers from their list of probable commits.
But that’s part of what makes the edge board so confusing. Some form of a prediction from 4(?) EDGE prospects plus the inconclusive position for Curtis and Sullivan.
Michigan’s struggle to consistently get high 4 and 5 star edge prospects has been odd considering how many 3 and low 4 guys blow up here.
