Omameh named to AFCA Good Works Team

Patrick Omameh has been recognized for his charitable works with Mott Children's Hospital, Relay for Life, Victors Day, From the Heart, amongst others, while also maintaining good academic standing.

He's the second Wolverine to be so recognized, as Zoltan Mesko was named to the 2009 Good Works Team. He's 1 of 11 D-1A (I refuse to recognize FBS) players to be named to the team.

Congrats Patrick! It's great to see our student-athletes to be such great role-models.

Great to Hear

Announcers mentioned that he is a double major as well.  Good to hear our student-athletes are making the most out of their college experiences.

Congrats to Patrick. He

Congrats to Patrick. He seemed like a great kid when he entered the program, and there's every reason to believe that he has lived up to that.

OP, because I'm curious, what's your principled reason for refusing to call it the FBS?

Why...since they are also

Why...since they are also doing charitable work and helping raise awareness, I believe they should be honored so deserving.

he's referring

to the name "fbs" (vs. division I-aa), not to the players in the fbs being recognized

I-A/I-AA vs. FBS/FCS

Namely, because it's stupid. We had perfectly fine distinctions of I-A and I-AA, before they came around with the FBS and FCS designitions. I understand that one is the (B)owl, and one is the (C)hampionship, but it's stupid, arbitrary, and goes messing with something that didn't need messing with.

and it's soon to be obsolete. Either way they're going to have to change the designations again.

And because the new nomenclature

devalues the teams themselves by emphasizing the end of the season.  Telling us that the defining distinction of a college team is where it plays, or hopes to play, when the season is over.  In somebody else's stadium for somebody else's profit.

And now to ponder whether it's more important to be a legend than to be a leader.

Sorry.  It's past my bedtime.

Getting frustrated at a guy

Getting frustrated at a guy like this for missing an assignment or not pulling hard enough is pretty difficult when you know what a great person he appears to be.  These kinds of things are a great reminder that football is only one aspect of many of these kids' lives.
