Ohio WR: We'd wipe field with Bama, FSU

Submitted by Cold War on

Urban Meyer has Ohio State right where he's had them all season in the coaches' poll -- at No. 2 -- but at least one player thinks the coach is selling the Buckeyes short.

"I'm a little biased," wide receiver Evan Spencer told reporters Monday. "I think we'd wipe the field with both of them."

"Them" would be unbeaten Alabama and Florida State, who are 1-2 in this week's BCS standings...

I know we have no right to talk but leave it to a buckeye to shoot his mouth off.  I was hoping to see them left out of the champ game in favor of Baylor (assuming Bama or FSU loses) but now I kinda hope they get into the big game just so they can get smacked for this idiocy.

Yeah im wishing he woulda remained a bit more humble about it...but we are a year away but want nothing more than to do what he said. Bring our conference back to what it used to be. Im hoping you guys also play in a bowl against sec and beat the piss out of them too!! Its the culture urban has brought..back down to nothing. Seriously.

Have you seen us play?  We aren't beating anybody in the SEC right now.  As for your Buckeyes, talk all you want if you keep winning.  Does anybody buy the Buckeyes as the 3rd best team in the country....No, we all know it's smoke and mirrors.  But, whatever, you can only beat the teams on your schedule. Unfortunately you are now the flagship program of a joke of a conference without even a legitimate #2 big time program like the old days.

I have watched you play as i have full respect for your program...i just do think the talent is there now..i truly feel that Hoke isnt the answer though for you as a program. I want nothing more though to see u guys return to the flagship program aswell

If Hoke doesn't start getting things in order in the next year or so I'm with you.  I thought we should have gone for Miles or Harbaugh in the first place, not Hoke.

As for this clown on the Buckeyes, they needed inelligble players to beat an SEC team a few years back.  And that was a middle of the pack group in Arkansas.  Perhaps they can beat FSU, but Bama would beat them by 24+

This is the natural result of all these years when so-called "Michigan Arrogance" departed A^2 and traveled down the sewer pipes to Columbus. We cannot restore a more balanced perspective soon enough. (sigh)

“Well, I guess I’m a little biased, but I think we’d wipe the field with both of them, but that's just my bias speaking.” the Buckeye wide receiver said. “We’re going to go ahead and handle our business and play our best game every week. We know that we just have to go out and execute. If we go out and execute for a full game, there’s nobody in the country that we feel can hang with us when we’re executing the way that we can."

I wholeheartedly share it.  I absolutely want a B1G team to win the next NC, even if it's Ohio.  The best way for the national perception of the Big Ten to change is for its teams to start winning big games.  The more OSU wins, the better off the entire conference is.  I'm not sure if Shitsburg St. is eliiglble due to the sanctions, though.

What i am saying is listen i want you as michigan to get to a bowl against a team and wipe the field too with them...it isnt arrogance its confidence. Sure i dont think that ohio state would be alabama or florida state handily but i love seeing this from our players...i live in alabama. And this is in news outlets everywhere alabama players say theyd handle us wifh no problem. So seeing this i know urban brought a swagger ok. I want michigan to get that back too!

There's nothing wrong with a some confidence and swagger.  Plus they need the PR machine to work in overdrive to influence voters because their remaining schedule will not push them into the BCS title game.

Well when we haven't lost a game in almost 2 years and are 10-3 since 2000 against your biggest rival you can be that confident.

Seriously, what about this team's performance makes you wonder: "Gee golly why aren't we walking around with our heads high and chests puffed out"?

Nothing does. I wasn't being all that serious. I just meant that it would be nice to be confident heading into a game. I wasn't really that upset that we lost to Nebraska. Sure, I was dissapointed, but in the back of my mind, I knew that a loss was coming.

This coaching staff is worse than the RR era in my opinion. Everyone wants to give Brady another year because he's a "Michigan Man". If we gave RR another year, where would we be? Brady went 11-2 with RICH ROD'S recruits. This offense is a joke. The defense is average. With all these great recruiting classes, why aren't we better? Brady has beeen here almost 3 full years. Where is the development? Where is the improvement?

Terry Glenn said ohio was gonna come up to Ann Arbor and "kick their (Michigan's) butt like everyone else". Oops.

That obviously is a huge mistake in a rivalry game always..was witness to that game. Was embarassed for him but i still love the confidence. Its the team culture...look back at some of the miami thug teams..take away the character and off the field issues yes but god you have to love it. Just pure tough nasty not going to back down. Its what our conference needs a bit more of that again.

John Cooper already couldn't beat Michigan. That happened the year after he got his first win against Michigan. I'm sure ol' Coop loved him opening his mouth like that. Giving a Michigan team that had his number even more motivation.

Same thing with David Boston in 1997. I mean, when you have been owned by a team, it's rather foolish to talk trash in the media about said team.

Maybe that's just me. I rather the results on the field do the talking.

Someone should have told Devin, Fitz, and Kalis this

Thats already happened...switch alabama to lsu..you can say that but alot of buckeye fans although we dont want to lose to you respect you and honestly tables were turned id want you to take the sec down or fsu..to start to regain our conferdnce respect in the media. Think how low our conference has become??? We win 21 straight yet are questioned. With every right we should be questioned. We have to beat the best to become the best

As much as I'd love to see OSU get spanked by Bama, it would only reinforce the negative stereotype about the Big Ten and the annoying SEC chants.  If OSU makes it to the NCG, I might have to pull for them, simply because I'd be pulling for the conference's respect.  Having said that, I could easily see myself flipping mid-game and start pulling for Bama the moment the camera pans to a smug Buckeye fan in the crowd, or an even more smug Urbz.

We arent all bad...i agree there are some that i regret they root for my team aswell but i agree itd be best for our conference and recruiting for our conference as a whole. I do know ill be pulling for you in this years bowl game. I think you are a solid year away as far as fully coming around to the michigan we all know and expect but there is talent there. Your running back green i think next year and come his junior year will be a beast

Seriously though im an ohio state fan but a big ten fan aswell here guys...i absolutely mean no disrespect at all as odd as it may seem have nothing but the upmost respect for your team and program. I just am trying to provide an outsider look into your team as i do watch your guys games aswell

Thanks for the support! I have to say we are in no position to talk about OSU's players standing up for their team. We should get some of that swagger ourselves. We have a long way to go I am afraid.

I've loved the rivalry with OSU since I saw the 50-14 (at Crisler on a big screen) and 24-12 (in person) games in 1968-69. As a 12-year old I was mad that Woody went for 2 in the 1968 game. I couldn't believe it...but to be honest that and all the other big games since have made the rivalry only greater and more fun to watch. UM vs OSU was a great rivalry. I hope OSU does well this year and UM get's its swagger back. When both teams are doing well it makes a victory all the sweeter.

That would of definitely been awesome to see...i dont go back that far. My first game was 94' osu vs michigan was my first game but grew up in toledo ohio and the game was always 'the game' and i agree 100% always much more rewarding when there is more at stake for both teams.

Akbuck, I appreciate you coming in here in a respectful manner, not in a trolling manner.  I've made plenty of jokes over the years about how obnoxious OSU fans can be, but the truth is, some of my best buddies are OSU fans, and they are like brothers to me...except in late November.

I've learned that there are good fans and bad fans in any fan base-  Michigan included.  I have a lot of respect for OSU and the rivalry.  We need to start pulling our weight in the rivalry.  Sadly, I don't have much confidence in our O-Line, so you guys should clobber us.  Anyway, good luck the rest of the way, except when The Game is played.

I played at Florida State and Ohio does not have the athletes or depth to match up with FSU. Ohio needs to worry about a couple schools from Michigan and then make plans for their Jan. 1st bowl game. The big boys will be playing on Jan 6th and they arent invited.

akbuck

November 11th, 2013 at 8:57 PM ^

I agree for sure on the depth side of the ball we dont yet have the athletes in the 2 deep but in a one game set up i think depth could be not quite a factor as our 1st string i think could hang with FSU. I dont think FSU has seen a running game quite like ohio states has...with hyde power, braxton the xfactor. Our recievers and dontre and EZE. It could pose a different look than what theyve seen. FSU's offense would pose our biggest issue. We do not have the d line or overall front 7 to get consistent pressure. I hate to say but we would have to kinda hope Winston had an off day and win the turnover battle.

MichiganMan14

November 11th, 2013 at 10:25 PM ^

Anything could happen. I just dont see it. FSU is absolutely stacked everywhere as is Bama. Ohio still has holes and is a couple of Urban recruiting classes away imo. Definitely not a pushover but a clear underdog against FSU and Bama.

This article was written at the beginning of the season: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf--forde-yard-dash--breaking-down-coll… Coincidentally, Bama, OSU, and Florida State have the most talent out of anyone in the country in their starting line-ups (OSU is ahead of Bama and FSU according to Rivals). OSU has hauled in top recruiting classes the last few years and has developed it as well. You would think OSU were Boise State the way people talk about them not being able to play with the "big boys" lol. There's a reason they started off the season #2, even if they haven't dominated every single game. When they come to play they can match up with anyone.
