I remember being bummed about Gant going to OSU because I thought he'd be a stud. For all their recruiting prowess, they sure have not turned out many good linebackers in recent years.

Had not thought about this but you're correct, compared to their vast success on the d-line and defensive backs, their linebacker core has been pretty milquetoast.

Absolutely. Baron Browning was the #11 player in the country and looked like a liability in Columbus. Cade Stover switched to TE. Keandre Jones transferred. Teradja Mitchell has not recorded one sack/TFL in his career.

Shazier was very good, and so was Darron Lee. I think Raekwon McMillan was pretty good too but not to the level of the previous two.

Once you enter the portal I believe you’re able to be contacted by coaches and take visits if I’m not mistaken.

Gant is entering the portal now because he has only played in three games. He can use this year as a redshirt year. If he plays in four games, he loses a year of eligibility.
Correction: Mick & Rick's are right, if he plays in five games, he loses a year of eligibility.
