Ohio St Loses 2020 RB Recruiting Battle With Texas

Submitted by Ezekiels Creatures on August 4th, 2019 at 1:28 AM

In a recruiting battle with Texas, which had intensified the last four weeks, Ohio St has lost 2020 RB Bijan Robinson to Texas. Ohio St had been thought the leader to land Robinson:

"an influx of Crystal Ball picks flooded in favoring the Buckeyes." (https://www.burntorangenation.com/recruiting/2019/8/2/20698073/bijan-robinson-commitment-texas-longhorns-recruiting-2020-running-back-salpointe-catholic-tom-herman)

An article at BuckeyesWire from July 9 said this,

according to 247 Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, Ohio State is now the leader to land the 6-0, 200 pounder.

The article also said:

The Buckeyes desperately need to land a quality running back in the 2020 class...

Right now the call is that he’ll be a Buckeye....(https://buckeyeswire.usatoday.com/2019/07/09/ohio-state-5-star-rb-target-bijan-robinson-to-announce-college-choice-soon/)

Until very recently, Rivals looked almost all Ohio St: https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2020/bijan-robinson-185273#forecast-reasons

According to Sports Illustrated,

Robinson had given a silent pledge to the Buckeyes (https://www.si.com/college-football/2019/08/02/bijan-robinson-commits-texas-football-2020-recruiting-class)

And outwardly, Robinson himself gave indication he was going with Ohio St:

"This whole time I knew it was Texas, but all the pressure coming to me from Ohio State was a reason why I was going there initially. Then I realized that it wasn't for me...." ( https://www.si.com/college-football/2019/08/02/bijan-robinson-commits-texas-football-2020-recruiting-class)

For Ohio St, the change was sudden:

“[The Ohio State staff] were informed that the Buckeyes, who were written in ink as the favorite to land Robinson’s commitment since his visit in June, are now no longer the favorite and have only a small chance to earn his commitment.” (https://www.burntorangenation.com/recruiting/2019/8/2/20698073/bijan-robinson-commitment-texas-longhorns-recruiting-2020-running-back-salpointe-catholic-tom-herman)

It looks like this sudden loss dashed hopes for Ohio St. fans.

OSU.buckeyes.center may have said something very revealing on twitter:

Bijan Robinson cited Stan Drayton and Tom Hermon, who are both now at Texas, and how well they worked with Ezekiel Elliot when they were at Ohio St, as the significant reason he chose Texas. You can see him talk about it in this video, starting at 1:53:

Is it possible the red flag that OSU.buckeyes.center is talking about is that Stan Drayton and Tom Hermon are no longer at Ohio St, and the running game coaches that have replaced them aren't as attractive to running backs as Drayton and Hermon were?

Here's Bijan Robinson 2018 highlights. He's got the wow factor: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/7796018/5c2c7ef90dc125053ce4aa92

Gave this guy the benefit of the doubt in the other thread/diary, but idk now.

User name "Zeke" something, obsessed with OSU running Backs...wtf.  No Michigan fan would choose that name...

Guessing burntoorangenation (which nobody's heard of yet you link multiple times) is your website.

I linked to that place twice, to the same article. It is a Texas web site. Seems like that would be a way to get information about Texas.

I also linked to Sports Illustrated twice, also to the same article there. Do you think I from Sports Illustrated because of that?

I linked to twitter 5 times. And none of them were the same. All 5 were different links to twitter. You are thinking now I am from twitter?

And BTW, Ezekiels Creatures is a reference to chapter 1 of the book of Ezekiel in the Bible. It has absolutely nothing to do with Ezekiel Elliot. I can't see how you came up with that in the first place. Give yourself a rest.

Isn’t this one of the suspected Yoder accounts?

I posted this last week - in less detail - as the OSU boards went nuts when they learned that they were almost certainly losing both Robinson and Knighton (top 100 APB) as they now have — to Texas and FSU respectively.

Biggest reason for the freakout was that the staff at Bucknuts (and others?) were not only telling subscribers that these 2 were “locks” but were also hyping up that OSU could/would jump to #1 in the 2020 rankings when they got commitments from those 2 (and a top 200 LB which they did land).

A few M-related thoughts/notes to bring it back to us —  Is it possible that Knighton going to FSU may help M with the staff’s other top 2020 RB, Toafili?.  —  I guess M beating OSU for Corum turns out to a bigger deal now?  —  Was surprised that top RB from NJ- Jalen Berger - does not appear to be higher on the OSU board.  Berger is in/near the top 100 yet the M staff never seemed to push very hard for him either.

Remember when they “lost” #1 RB 5* Derrick Green to us and everyone laughed when they started recruiting a 3* from Missouri instead?

We “stole” Kareem Walker from them, they didn’t seem to lose much sleep.

Or, remember when Najee Harris was a silent to Harbaugh?

Hard to find too much joy in this when we’ve whiffed on countless guys and brought in a succession of busts while they’ve plugged and played RB after RB.

This is the dumbest post I’ve seen in a long time.

Hey detective - high school kids change their mind and we could replace Texas with Michigan/Alabama/Georgia (or Michigan with OSU) in this story and it reads like the last five years of recruiting.

Who knows, maybe he changed his mind. Maybe he got paid by someone. Maybe he’s 17. You’ve made a strong argument. It’s all stupid anyway. Hope he lives up to his potential and makes a solid paycheck in the NFL and if not, gets a good education and is a good person.

I haven’t posted in a few years but I’ve learned to lighten up. But damn, easy. He’s not coming to Michigan. Or maybe he’ll change his mind and come here.

My point: the main red flag is you. Relax.

Great move by him but the reality is none of this matters until Michigan whoops OSU's butt in Columbus this year and then goes on a decade long winning streak.

Oh geez, I screwed the pooch. I thought the game was in Columbus this year and I was wrong. I will now cut off my little pinkie as punishment.
