Odds of M/MSU being a College Gameday battle

Submitted by Wee-Bey Brice on

As other MGoUsers pointed out there is still no game time for the MSU game. It's starting to shape up like this could be a top-15 matchup two weeks from now. The number 3, 6, 7, 8, 19, 21, 23 ranked teams all lost games yesterday so there will be some serious reshuffling in the rankings today.

Michigan will almost certainly move into the top 20, while Northwestern was already No. 16 before their shutout yesterday, so they'll move into the top 15. A win vs NW next week would catapult the good guys into the same position.

What are the odds we still haven't heard a game time because the value of the game won't be decided until next week? Could this be a potential College Gameday game?

If Florida and LSU are both still undefeated, it's 100% going to be that matchup. LSU will be a top 5 team and Florida is probably going to make a huge jump ala Ole Miss (12 spots from #15 to #3) after they beat Bama. Florida beat the THAT #3 in a far more impressive fashion as well, and we all know how much they love to slurp the SEC in the polls, so they may make the top 10 jump today.

Some stiff competition for gameday. You've got the following games that week: UCLA vs Stanford Florida vs LSU Bama vs Texas A&M WVU vs Baylor USC vs Notre Dame Those are some pretty good games that were going to have to compete with and we all know ESPN loves the esss eeee see. But if UM and MSU win this week I think that we have pretty good shot.

Which would leave FLA vs LSU, Bama vs TA&M, and UM-MSU.

If MSU had looked more impressive the last two weeks I'd be inclined to think our game would be a lock (assuming neither of us loses beforehand), but they hardly look like a true #2 team in the country. Fournette is a sensation so he would be a big draw, and the matchup of Alabama and A&M is probably the pairing of the best two teams. The main attraction for UM-MSU is the Harbaugh storyline against the backdrop of a bitter in-state rivalry.

After the offensive performance yesterday I'm not inclined to put a definitive win in our column just yet for NW. Our defense is going to win our tougher match ups. They will keep us in all of those games and might win one or two, but our offense looked horrible in 75% of the game yesterday, and is going to have to make strides

I think the national indifference towards little bro might hurt our chances of getting GD. But it seems like a big fat sloppy #2 team so ripe for an upset would make for a good storyline.

It would be great to get that kind of recognition but the game doesn't have the national cache of the Florida-LSU or Bama-A&M games. I'd say we have a 10% chance right now with those two being 55-35 LSU-Florida. The Gators are smoking hot right now just beat the #3 team in the country and LSU has the runaway Heisman front runner. That's the spot. Might even be more like 65-25.
