January 5th, 2020 at 7:38 PM ^
And big as well.
January 5th, 2020 at 10:10 PM ^
LT- Hayes / Keegan
LG- Rumler vs Barnhart
C- Carpenter vs Vastardis
RG- Stueber / Honigford
Rt- Mayfield / Jones
January 5th, 2020 at 10:43 PM ^
Jones? You mean Trente? Anybody good enough to have a drink size at Starbucks named after them is good enough for me. Play him!
January 6th, 2020 at 9:19 AM ^
Can Chuck play center? If he stays...
January 6th, 2020 at 12:52 PM ^
No, he would be LG. High probability of a transfer
January 6th, 2020 at 10:03 AM ^
With McKeon and Mustapha gone, any chance that Hayes moves back to play the in-line TE?
January 6th, 2020 at 12:55 PM ^
Highly unlikely, he's 300 pounds and Michigan needs a LT with some playing time.
January 5th, 2020 at 6:25 PM ^
Blocky.
January 6th, 2020 at 12:22 AM ^
But not catchy, except in case of emergency.
January 5th, 2020 at 6:25 PM ^
LT: Jimbo
LG: Jambo
C: Jombo
RG: JUMBO
RT: Steve
January 5th, 2020 at 6:26 PM ^
I hope it’s not Steve, he’s a dick.

Agreed, Steve sucks
January 5th, 2020 at 7:25 PM ^
Unless you're in Canada, where Scott's a dick.
January 5th, 2020 at 7:39 PM ^
Yeah. He totally hesitated before wishing you a nice day.
January 5th, 2020 at 6:31 PM ^
Tackle: Mayfield + Stueber or Hayes. Backups of Barnhart, Keegan, Jones. Will be good.
Guard: pick two of Vastardis, Filiaga, Hoeningford, Stewart, Rumler. Also could see Jones or Barnhart here. Will be good.
Center: Carpenter or maybe Vastardis. Will be... Dunno. Fine probably
January 5th, 2020 at 6:58 PM ^
The talent is there, but it will be interesting to see if we see a drop off with Ruiz's ability to make calls at the line. We noticed a pretty rough patch when Kugler was the center and then when Ruiz became a starter a lot of the issues with pick ups went away quickly
I have more faith in the coaching of this OL than at any other point in my M fandom, so hopefully it gets figured out, but I wouldn't be surprised if a talented line took a large step back initially as the new C figures it out
January 5th, 2020 at 8:00 PM ^
And even more so when Glasgow left and kugler took over...
January 5th, 2020 at 8:31 PM ^
I totally agree. Center is huge, and Ruiz was damned good.
I trust Warinner but we may we’ll have a bit of a tough time making the transition. Hopefully that doesn’t stunt the development of the McCaffrey/Milton competition.
January 5th, 2020 at 9:21 PM ^
This looks like slate to me:
- OT - Mayfield, Hayes, Stueber
- OG - Honigford, Filiago, Rumler
- OC - Carpenter, Vastardis
top 5 = Mayfield, Stueber, Hayes, Carpenter, Honigford. Stueber might move inside.
January 5th, 2020 at 6:33 PM ^
In no particular order...
Mayfield Hayes Stuebor ? ?
January 5th, 2020 at 6:34 PM ^
Hayes was pretty solid early in the year . Our guards were the issue til we got it going
January 6th, 2020 at 12:45 AM ^
Hayes had one good game and then had a poor game, mainly because he was getting overpowered. Then Runyan came back and Hayes had spot duty through the season as a 6th OL or to spell Mayfield for a series or two.
January 5th, 2020 at 7:16 PM ^
My guess... Rumler, Carpenter
January 5th, 2020 at 6:38 PM ^
Let's wait to see who stays and who makes like a tree and leaves...
January 5th, 2020 at 6:40 PM ^
I believe it’s makes like a tree and get out of here

If Filiaga is gone...which I hope not...because losing both him and Spanellis would be terrible. Obviously Ruiz is a huge blow as well.

Maybe just go to MGoBlue.com or do a Google search.
January 5th, 2020 at 8:08 PM ^
The fact we can make out 3 deep in the oline with legit players speaks volumes about how much better this team is, depth-wise, than it was 5 years ago. AFTER losing 4 to graduation.
January 5th, 2020 at 7:11 PM ^
Barnhart is playing tackle now? Since when? I think the days of kicking out 6-5 guards to tackle, are OVER...
January 5th, 2020 at 10:13 PM ^
Since always. He's been playing LT since he stepped on campus. I'm not sure what you're talking about...it's what he played this year. Hell, you can even look at his Twitter profile pic (or a simple Google search).
He's a 6'5" tackle. Which is plenty tall enough...at that point it's arm length if you're talking measurables. Give me a 6'5" guy with a 6'10" wingspan over a 6'6" guy with a 6'7" wingspan.
If Filiaga leaves I think he could battle with Rumler and Hongiford for the Guard spot opposite Stueber (who I assume moves inside).
January 6th, 2020 at 9:55 AM ^
Barnhart is 6’5” 300 LB kid who can dunk a basketball and played some tight end. He can probably play anywhere on the line. He was the only Freshman OL to play this year.
January 6th, 2020 at 9:00 AM ^
If Spanellis and Filiaga leave, why would that be terrible? Wouldn't the fact that they are transferring of their own volition indicate there is a good chance they got passed on the depth chart? Guys in line to start don't leave a team very often.
January 6th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
Hudson, Aubrey Solomon, Tarik Black....
January 6th, 2020 at 3:22 PM ^
Exceptions sometime PROVE the rule, but Hudson left because he wasn't getting the opportunity over Stueber as a Frosh.
As for the others, I had seen some cryptic insider mentions of "issues" between Solomon and M (got more of a personality clash vibe versus something "bad") that made his exit pretty predictable though unfortunate. Black apparently was a bit of a malcontent this year (to be fair - none of the "big 3" got the targets they/we were hoping for) and quite possibly didn't see the opportunities next year with less of a role for a traditional outside WR with Gattis and Nico back. Add in the fact that his best Bro was headed for the NFL and amaybe a move makes sense for him.

January 5th, 2020 at 8:47 PM ^
The roster doesn't say which of those guys will start next year not how competent they are. OP's question is perfectly valid.
OP just needs to patient. I'm sure Brian or Seth will write a post about this in due time, and they'll be much more thorough than anybody on this board has the time for.
January 6th, 2020 at 12:27 AM ^
There's a "tickets" post that happens around spring practice, but that's not for a while yet. This is the sort of thing that boards are made for: fine-grained information and discussion.
