Not so interesting stadium construction update
I walked around the stadium today, and behind the construction barriers I can relay the following:
- The West Side Premium Chair-Back Seating area, that is being build where the old press box was, had a lot of attention today. Workers have put in about 1/4 of the step foundations starting from the top middle and going down from there.
- There seemed to be many more workers on the West Side than the East side ... not sure why it is getting more focus.
- Also, Pioneer High School has a huge dirt pile built up at the corner of Stadium and Main. I went over there and there was a sign that described a water treatment program plan that would be complete in Spring 2011, but that the lawn would be restored by August 15th, 2010.
- Lastly, as was reported previously, the tops of the score boards where opened up with a few workers around. I think they are working on installing the sound system that used to be on top of the old press box.
I have not been following the stadium construction at all so forgive my ignorance but
Chair-Back Seating??
First reaction WTF. As if we need to motivate people to sit more.
Second Reaction: Ok fine if they are paying a premium
Third Reaction: Stand the fuck up
when do the 3D score boards come in
I believe that is called "The Field"
Dude, you may have watched "Avatar" one too many times....
The West Side ones are going to cover the entire area where the press box was ... there is an annual $2,000 donation required (does not include the price of the ticket). The seats will have cup holders and are cushioned.
The East Side range from 1,500 to 4,000 per seat, and will have exclusive access to the "club" ... a restricted area with premium food, private bathrooms, and interior views if weather is bad.
I'm just confused how the seats are going to be cushioned with them being outside all the time. Is there going to be some sort of overhang for the seats? Are they just going to replace them as often as necessary? Is it a different kind of cushioning than I am thinking of? I'm honestly very intrigued by this, though as a student chair-backed seats are way way off, if they ever get here...
as far as I know, there is no overhead protection for the seats. I have heard them described as just cushioned on the seat section, not on the back. A "deep" seat cushion ... 3-4 inches with a thick cover, likely to protect it from the elements.
I see. That makes sense. Thanks for the info!
the Yankee's have lazy boys in the front row, i'm pretty sure they use some sort of weatherproofing for the cushions.

By "cushioned," I'm assuming it'll just be your standard vinyl-covered padding that a lot of stadiums use. Probably nothing really plush.
They install 19" 3D TVs for all the seats so you can sit there with your 3D Glasses and totally feel like you are at the game.
Drove by yesterday - they have a lane of Main Street closed and are beginning to brick the west side, which as of now is still looking pretty bare-boned.
Sweet!
Also, if you drive by at night you can see the lights inside the towers. It appears the ceilings have maize and blue neon lights. Not bright neon lights, but a soft glow of maize and blue from the ceiling. Ahh, damn. Without a picture this description sounds awful. I promise it looks pretty cool though.
And yes they have one lane of Main closed and are starting the brickwork on the west side.

This topic deserves a better headline. "Not so interesting" doesn't really draw your reader in. (And besides, we're all junkies who dig this stuff anyway.)
...was too self deprecating. He actually provided some interesting observations. Good post.
