Non-football topic: Crean likes our Beilein

Submitted by Ultimate Quizmaster on
It's from the freep, but I thought this was an interesting quote: Indiana's Tom Crean gave an impassioned, unsolicited defense of U-M coach John Beilein: "And one final point that I'd like to make is when you look at Michigan, and when you look at what John Beilein has done over his career and you look at his winning percentage over his career, the man is an incredible coach. This goes back to my days in the Big East, and it certainly is now. There might be some preparations that are as hard, but there are none that are harder than getting ready for a John Beilein-coached team." http://www.freep.com/article/20101029/SPORTS08/10290456/1055/sports07#i…

I don't think anyone disputes he is a great X's and O's coach.  To this point his recruiting leaves something to be desired, but I see the bball team as having growing pains this year, competing for an NCAA bid next year, and then watch out.

JB's recruiting classes

2009:

Matt Vogrich 4* and top 100 player

2010:

Evan Smotrycz 4* and top 100 player

Tim Hardaway borderline top 100 player

2011:

Carlton Brundidge 4* and top 100 player

He done a pretty good job of recruiting. Sure he had misses like Pointer and  Prather, but you can't get them all.

It's hard when we're at where we're at, but to get a pretty solid top 25 nationally and top 3 or 4 class in the conference consistently is pretty impressive. If he continues to get talented players, we will improve, and the blue-chippers will probably take notice (the practice facility will really help too, IMO). This year we have two juniors and no seniors, so I'm just hoping we can improve, start working on some consistency, maybe pull an upset or two, and try not to get run out of the building by OSU, MSU, Syracuse, or Kansas.

The team this year might be his best to date . I know we will not have manny or sims but like RR he is finally getting some of the players that he wanted . We have a very young team but they seem to be moving the right way and i'm sure that will influence top prospects to play michigan in the future

Hmmm. Isn't Crean married to Jim Harbough's sister? Wonder why he is being so nice to our b-ball coach.  It's all part of a master plan, or not.
