Dammit. Doing this on a phone was a mistake. Meant to say:
BBQ thread. So what's everyone cooking this weekend for the moms in their lives? What are you sipping on tonight?
My wife works tomorrow, so we did nice steaks last night for dinner, I got her some BOMB gourmet chocolate covered strawberries for today and getting up early to cook her a big breakfast before she heads in for her shift tomorrow. Currently enjoying a glass of Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Just picked up a sixer of a new seasonal from ABW (Austin Beer Works) called Megaflora, which is a juicy DIPA, to go along with a Crowler of Training Bines from Pinthouse Pizza.
I started with a bottle of Bell's Juicy Gossip... not a fan.
If anyone finds themselves in north Austin/Round Rock, check out the locally brewed Island Time IPA at Cork and Barrel Pub. (disclaimer: This is a Michigan bar that I own... this batch of Island Time is our Mona Lisa)
What does XM think about Mo Linguist becoming only the 14th black head coach out of 130 D1 programs?
XM, like most decent people (of which you're not), is probably happy for Mo.
Okay keep simping for XM. I was clearly making a joke about how he pretended to be black and an authority on racial issues. And before you reply something like he didn’t pretend to be black, remember that you are the poster that replied in that thread saying we should all listen to XM cause he’s black. So the joke is entirely about the fact people thought he was black, of which you (and I) were one. Maybe that’s why you’re so triggered, idk.
You love XM cause you can use the “I have a black friend” shtick to defend your shitty views. Now turns out he’s actually white and instead of you admitting you got duped you’re doubling down. So whatever go ahead and attack me and call me a bad person.
Yep. You're a bad person.
There ya go. Feel better? Doubt it.
Genuinely curious: can anyone point to an actual post in which XM claimed to be black? I was as surprised as anyone to learn that he wasn't, but then I looked back and realized that he never actually said that...
Drinking diet coke and it's very crisp.
I haven't thought about XM since he "left"the board but I'm pretty sure he hasn't thought of me either.
What happened to XM? He was here for a long time.
I also miss XM’s presence on the board. We were about as diametrically opposite as you could be except for our Michigan fandom. We sought each other out at 4 football games, 2 basketball games, and I visited his farm twice. I even joined his family at Sava’s restaurant for a post meal dessert. I parsed his posts carefully over the years and don’t think he misrepresented himself ever. I do believe he should have kept his pandemic thoughts to himself (as most of us should) and Ace should concentrate on sports (a few attacks on Ron Weiser might be acceptable). I am drinking Sodastream with lime. I have been to Bolivia and was set free by the gracious Seth. Just yesterday I saw Mr. Cook walking in a local park and I resisted the urge to interrupt his family time. Hopefully we are a field hockey school tomorrow.
People bitching about Ace (rightfully so)shutting down anything he disagrees with, then bitching about a subject they disagree with. Peek America and mgoblog at it's finest.
Totally agree on the America part.. but bitching on a blog is pretty normal, banishing an opposing opinion because you disagree with it is not. It's perfectly okay to discuss and disagree on certain subjects, it's not okay to just block out an opposing view just because you feel like it.
Completely agree. This blog use to have actual discussions, now it's you're a dumb ass for having that view and I'm better than you because I don't.
Very very well-stated, Scanner Blue!
I too have differing opinions (political and otherwise) with XM but we agree to disagree while celebrating what we have in common, including but not limited to our Michigan fandom. I have also visited his farm and family, met up with him at tailgates and football games, had planned meet up with him and his family at one of his son's high school playoff games (until said game was called off due to covid protocol).
Never once did I see him misrepresent himself as a black man. Never once did I find him condescending or otherwise disrespectful as a person. And I always found him to be a gracious host and a fine man.
Because of this I have continued to keep in touch with him and will continue to consider him a friend.
XM sleeps with the fishes.
XM sleeps with the fishes.
apparently he sleeps with them twice. And I’m drinking Russell’s neat.
I don't blame him. Once you go aquatic, gill-bearing animal, you never go back.
Apparently I have been on the moon. What happened to XM?
See Seth's post page 2 of the Moderator sticky
Also, in friendlier news, softball just won the regular season Big Ten! I wish I knew how to embed tweets
edit: missed the actual board post on the softball news so SIAP
edit again: some summer hazy IPA. Took a break from very tasty beers after my time in Europe drinking lagers and pilsners, easing myself back into flavortown
Long story short Ace is a bit of a sanctimonious turd.
I'm hitting the Jameson pretty hard right now after having to put a few extra hours into a group project for work today, but I did manage to buy my wife a fancy new bed and mattress for Mother's Day, to be delivered Wednesday. The current one is 13 years old, so it was probably time.
Tomorrow it's the usual cards and eggs Benedict, then carryout from her favorite Greek restaurant for dinner. Then hopefully I can sneak away to the basement to watch the next episode of Mare of Easttown. God, I love Kate Winslet.
A new work bench, benefits everyone
Work group project sounds nightmarish. Love Mare of Easttown. The imaginary delco town is basically right around where I grew up near Upper Darby/Ridley. Winslet is amazing.
Went to a Braves game tonight. It was full capacity. First time I’ve seen 40,000 people together in person in over a year.
Had plenty of Terrapin Hopsecutioner IPA. I got my guys night and tomorrow is pretty much cooking for my wife nonstop. Breakfast, dinner and dessert.
I saw acuna get pinged on the hand at the end...pretty gnarly.

White guy names himself "extramelanin," talks constantly about his black children, and always talked like he was an authority when racial issues came up to let everyone know they were being "too sensitive". Dude was a fucking creep and had a shit opinion on just about everything minus football. Good riddance.
Alcohol is poison. I only smoke the loud pack.
I dunno, white guy who adopts 2 black children may ACTUALLY know a thing or two about racial issues, just sayin'.
Hope you all are well XM, miss you.
This is just the more extreme version of "I have a black friend" argument.
It was definitely a low point in mgoblog history when XM was banned and especially the lengths Ace went to and twisted logic he used to justify the ban.
He likely justified it because of his Twitter presence. Ace has blocked so many users, that he has created the ultimate echo chamber. When the topic of Ace comes up on this site though, you see how many frequent commenters disagree with him. Difference is, he can’t block all that disagree with him on this board.
“I dunno, white guy who adopts 2 black children may ACTUALLY know a thing or two about racial issues, just sayin'.”
I said this in the thread that got nuked, but XM was pretty disingenuous around race, never correcting anyone when they assumed he was Black. As a Black man myself, I found that pretty frustrating. But I could live with it.
I found his choice of user name quaint at best; it’s hard to argue that it doesn’t frame whiteness as normative and Blackness as, well, extra. And it’s weird to have that be the focus of your highlighting your kids. But I could live with that.
What I found intolerable was when he would try to tell me what my own experience was around race, and it happened repeatedly enough—and in such a cocksure way—that I’d had about enough of him by the time he was banned.
He certainly was not the paragon of racial tolerance. But no one, myself included, really is, and the sooner we understand that, the better.

Thanks for a thoughtful post. While reading a board argument moments of learning and introspection are rare, and this provided both.
Yes, it sure did.
+1 for pointing it out for those who might not have read through that fine post by Joby.
Everything Joby said +1
Yeah I was looking to comment, but Joby got across all of the points I wanted to make plus some, and did it much better than I would have.
I never saw posts of XM like you are describing, and I see your point. My interactions on the blog with him were usually on these weekend drinking threads and I appreciated his perspective on the various topics that would spring up, or about high school sports. +1000000 if I could for your last statement.
There isn't any evidence in his profile that this ever occurred.
Would be interesting to see examples, if there are any: https://mgoblog.com/users/joby
PerfectPair, I’m not sure why you’ve chosen to scrutinize my post, but I can appreciate you challenging my assertion. You state below that my profile only goes back to 2021, but that’s not correct. I’ve been a member of this blog for nearly 10 years, and a reader since 2008. I note that you have been a member for 2 months.
The “telling me what my experience is around race” mainly occurred in a diary that I wrote in December: https://www.mgoblog.com/diaries/what%27s-name-complex-dynamics-hey-juwan
There were other examples, but this really ought to suffice.
Thanks for sharing this. I think a lot of the arguments around XM's banning are proxies for bigger issues people have with the moderation on this site, and I think your post does a good job of getting to actual issues people may have had (or not) with the individual. I'll admit to not really noticing him while he was here and noted only the times he seemed to get into heated arguments (typically about race) that I didn't feel were ones that needed my input. I'm sorry to hear that he treated you in this way.
Curious to read where XM tried to "...tell me what my own experience was around race..."
When did this occur? Especially repeatedly?
Your profile only goes back to start of 2021, so not sure what happened before then - but in 2021 the only person bringing up race is you.

Please see my comment above.
Since when did someone sharing their opinion mean they think they are the authority on something?
I mean, do you think you are the authority on alcohol being poison? Is that an opinion that is commonplace? Is “smoking the loud pack” cool? Are we supposed to think you are cool? Enlighten the rest of us peasants because we are too stupid.
Maybe instead of trying to downplay a Black person's experiences with racism you could listen to him and try and understand what he's saying.
Mgoscottie, I appreciate you, but StanleyHudson was replying to a different comment (check out the time stamps). Our comments just had an unfortunate juxtaposition.
Ah - the penultimate reply.
Shut up white person, you have no right to say anything whatsoever, ever...about race.
Insert: "You ain't black enough or woke enough no matter what you do because I said so." rant.
C'mon man.
Woodson Whiskey on the rocks. Probably going to have one more than I should.
Twenty two ounces of Twenty Two Anniversary Ale from Eel River Brewery in CA. Tasty barleywine. 2017 vintage. Time to go top it off with a garage toke.
