If Matthews leaves, this will be the most standard addition to the yearly MSU/UM early entree saga.

Well aware. One of them shouldn't have been here this year. The other might be a top 3 pick. Not even Izzo can work his magic there.

If you're suggesting that over the years Izzo hasn't done a better job at convincing players to return than Beilein, welp, don't know what to say...

They were supposed to go in the draft though as both are high first rounders. I’m guessing the original post was referring to Izzo’s penchant for making guys shitty enough to stick around 4 years vs Beilein’s penchant for highlighting a guy’s talents enough to help them leave early when no one thought they would be gone throughout the year. For instance, Izzo can now plan on replacing Ward after the year with another 5 star guy that will bust vs Beilein having to scramble around to find another wing this year if Matthews goes as not many thought Matthews was ready before the year to get drafted

bending over from the waist.

Now if you want to see true effort put into a floor slap, check out Jae-Sean Tate

Note the athletic stance, with a far lower center of gravity. Unlike the Sparties, Jae'Sean gave 100% (so much so that he dislocated his shoulder).

I think he can be pretty effective for MSU. He's always been very efficient but hasn't put up eye opening numbers, partially due to conditioning and partially due to him not being the focal point of the offense. If Izzo smartens up and realizes Kenny Goins was a walk-on for a reason, he can put up good numbers as a #1 option. That being said I think he still has 2 major limitations. One is his conditioning as I said, unless something major changes he won't be more than a 25 MPG guy. Second is he still is a bad matchup against any team with a stretch/mobile 5. You don't even need to be a huge 3 point threat, just able to screen effectively away from the basket and hit a few jumpers away from the rim.

I'm not sure that Tillman will be much different -- just looks like the typical Izzo banger with a limited offensive skillset.

by a fairly wide margin (28.9% of possessions used compared to Bridges 25.1 percent). And as a freshman he had an astronomical 32% usage rate.

Some of that discrepancy was due to TOs and he certainly got many of his shots off OREBs considering his best in the country OREB rates, but they fed him too.  He was definitely the second option after Bridges when he was on the floor.  Usually the first option if Bridges wasn't on the floor.

He did not lack for opportunities (unlike JJJ who was underutilized).

Figures. Matthews will stay in the draft but Staee gets this bastard back. It is going to be a long dark rest of the year.

Is there some word out about Matthews? seems like its assumed he's gone. Unless he's told people, I'd say 90% chance he comes back.

I never bought the 'Ward is gone' hype. I don't care how much he hates Izzo, transferring / declaring / Europe were terrible options compared to being a featured player at MSU. Maybe he would have left if he had to decide in March, but you cool down quite a bit  in 3 months.
