NFL Wolverines Update - Rashan Gary Making An Impact

Submitted by Nervous Bird on September 20th, 2020 at 7:02 PM

Rashan Gary had 1.5 sacks, 4 tackles, and a couple of qb hurries today. Real nice game for him.

Mike Danna with a nice sack for Kansas City today, as well.

It's always good to see our Wolverines doing well. It helps raise the profile of the program, and the overwhelming majority of our guys in the NFL were really good kids on campus, and it seems to translate well to the league.

On Danna’s sack: he immediately evades the left tackle, then he blows up the running back leaking out for a wheel route, and then he explodes towards the quarterback and nails him for about a 10 yard loss. That was some impressive dismantling of three separate players in about three seconds.

Gary went right between a right tackle and a running back like James Harden splitting a double team.

Both beautiful plays. Problue is a very enjoyable phenomenon.

Well, if you look at Chase's sack closely it's clear Carlos Hyde has a difficult assignment. Hyde has to come at a bad angle from the other side of the formation. No one is available on the right side to chip Chase. Hyde is actually moving backwards has he gets to Chase. Chase does the smart thing and helps him to continue going backwards.

Uche is out (listed as "ankle") so up to Chase to keep this going tonight.

Michigan has had a pretty great run of edge guys. Hutchinson and Paye will join in on the Sunday highlights next year.

Edit: Chase just got in on a sack of Russell Wilson. Obviously he reads the board and took the challenge.

Winovich just rag-dolled ex-Buckeye Carlos Hyde to team up on a sack of Russel Wilson.  Announcers showed a couple of replays and complimented Winovich on throwing Hyde out of the club.  Always like those types of highlights.

I think big Mike Onwenu came in for goal-line package plays already too, though I am not 100% sure.

In the same game, Delano Hill is now playing at safety after one of Seattle's starters got ejected for targeting.

I saw the Danna sack in the moment and thought he looked really smooth and quick; I think he'll be part of their rotation all year.  And Gary playing well was really nice to see; people forget he was a rookie last year behind two pretty good players and it can be hard to get some traction.

All these guys are on defense. Besides Brady, who is the last M skill position player on offense to have a decent NFL career? Fitz Toussiant is the last RB to hold a roster slot for more than a year. Braylon Edwards and Jason Avant are the longest-tenured skill players of the 2000s and Amani Toomer is probably the best M alumni NFL skill player of all time. If you add in his USFL stats, Anthony Carter edges out Toomer. Chad Henne and Todd Collins held a lot of clipboards. If you include offensive linemen, Taylor Lewan is probably M's best current NFL player on offense, with back-to-back Pro Bowls.

As KC Native and Chiefs fan surprised and ecstatic to see Danna’s success.  He’s consistently been getting talked up by coaches and analysts who follow team.  Saw 48% of D snaps yesterday and would expect even more next week.

Also Taco Charlton was finally on active roster for Chiefs and got some run after Frank Clark left due to illness.  27% of defense snaps and first sack with the champs.  Hopefully he is trending upward as well as he fits Spags scheme.
