new turf
stadium photos are up on rivals and it shows that they are putting new turf on the field. old news, but is this new turf going to be any different? i've heard boise state is getting new turf so that it has less glare. is um's change along these same lines?
Yeah, but our new turf is Maize.
it'll really add to the autumn football season atmosphere.
i understand our field isn't blue. my question is in regards to how i've noticed our field turf has a glare on sunny days as well.
the sun does reflect light off of things.
Man you're being a dick.
The question doesn't make very much sense, and i'm not in the position to type out long replies right now...So it may come off dickish, but it's not my intent.
It may be poorly worded, but I don't think it is unclear. My understanding: "Is our new turf going to have anti-glare technology? I've heard Boise State's new turf will. Are there any other cool new features?"
but that anti-glare tech was due to the turf being blue, no? I don't see how we would need that whatsoever. So, it kind of doesn't make sense.
It's not really very hard to understand what he was aksing. The old turf, even though not blue, did have a glare. It would be nice if the same technology used to fix that problem at other venues would be used for Michigan Stadium. Maybe it's one of those situations where if you don't know the answer (which you obviously do not) it would be be better to say nothing.
I hope we get the altered turf...the dark and light alteration.
Briefly
Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon said he believes Michigan has started replacing the turf at Michigan Stadium, part of the facility’s overall renovation. The cost for the new surface was somewhere around $800,000, Brandon said.
“They say the useful life of that turf is 7 to 8 years and I think we’ve had ours for 10 or 11 so it was long overdue,” he said.
Not a big deal but there is no way that has been there 10-11 years. I remember them going from grass to turf around the time I graduated ('03).
EDIT: Wikipedia confirms that is has been there since 2003
Yeah, it was '03. Kind of odd that he wouldn't have known that. Regardless, after seven years it's time for a reinstallation.
We are getting new turf just to add to the new renovated feel.
If anti glare technology will help out with "Cath the damn ball" syndrome, then I am all for it!
I don't think there's any way to fit a catheter into a football, and it would just let the air out. But catheters are necessary for some syndromes, I'll grant.
I cut out a piece of the field when they first started ripping it out. That stuff is insanely thick and heavy. The outer edges of the field are getting a poured concrete sidewalk about 6' wide around the whole thing. I'm sure the new field will have an even better look to it, especially with all the new features.
You took the strip from the 'M' didn't you?
Never, ever, EVER do anything to damage the field... except marshmallows.
The new turf is a different kind then last seasons. It's called Duraspine and is made by the same company that made the FieldTurf that has been at the stadium since 2003. I have no clue if it will help with glare.
