New run of crystal balls for OL target David Davidkov to Iowa

Submitted by Gentleman Squirrels on April 27th, 2020 at 9:49 AM

Includes crystal balls from Wiltfong, Allen Trieu, and both Iowa and Michigan reporters.

Sucks if he ends up picking the Hawkeyes since he was looked at a longtime Michigan lean, but this is one of the few positions we can afford a loss. With the way Warriner is developing targets at Michigan, our OL should still find itself in a good position. I also wouldn’t expect Michigan to stop recruiting him even if he commits to Iowa.

Hopefully this recruitment ends up like Trevor Keegan and he ends up committing to the good guys down the road.

Another round in the chamber of the "wtf is wrong with our recruiting" folks. Bummer, but as you say we should trust Warinner until he's proven that he can't reload.

That's not so true on the OL. It's a much harder position to project. There's the rare ready-made OT freak who's already 6'6/310 with light feet but Cesar Ruiz is one of a very few 5-star interior prospects to be a 1st rounder. Davidkov is as likely as El-Hadi to be an excellent college OL. Sucks to lose out on him, but Iowa deserves more of these guys given their record developing OL.

5 star OL are more likely to get drafted than 5 stars at any other position except DB.

WR appears to the one that is hard to project.

For 2010-2014:

% of 5 stars drafted by position
DB - 80%
OL - 75%
DL - 74%
TE - 67%
ATH - 60%
LB - 53%
QB - 50%
RB - 50%
WR - 32%

Getting out-recruited by ND, PSU and OSU is one thing, but there’s no fucking excuse letting the likes of Iowa and Wisconsin getting players Michigan prioritizes, let alone losing to them with the talent advantage we *still* maintain.

If this was two weeks ago, we could say at least there’s basketball recruiting to fall back on.

EDIT: Doesn’t seem like Magnus is too concerned. Maybe it’s by design then.

Completely agree they are both solid programs and don't think it's crazy that he would want to play for Iowa. I was trying to make the point that it can't be as easily explained as "Iowa is an OLine factory" when it's either a bit of a misnomer, or Michigan has been on par with them in recent history.

I'm hoping Michigan can get Nolan Rucci, Bennett Pitcher, or a couple of other tackle targets. Davidkov is a solid player but has somewhat limited upside, in my opinion.

For tackle Michigan is really looking at Garret Dillinger, Nolan Rucci, Tristian Bounds, and possibly Bennett Pitcher. I think that Michigan has a shot with both Rucci and Dillinger (who plans on visiting Michigan after the dead period). And I think Bounds is more of a fallback if we don’t get our other targets.

Thanks for the update.  I'd heard of all except Pitcher - not sure who he is, but on the 247 board one of the staff members said he's not likely.

Another couple crystal ball picks for Drew Kendall though today.  Great news, I just wonder if he'd have the ability to kick outside.  But maybe at 6'4" (ESPN actually lists him at 6'3") he doesn't quite have the height.  I assume they go all-in on Rucci as unlikely as that may be, and look to take Bounds if that doesn't work.

I'd love Dellinger but it just seems like he's been out-of-state bound for a while.

People like Maizen is why I stopped following college recruiting. If I wanna know where an eighteen year old is going to college, I'll just watch a movie on the subject.

Not sure why you’re getting negged, it’s not like you posted about your green gf or whatever.

You’re right. I’ve checked out completely. Not worth getting wrapped up in it when so many sure thing 5 stars haven’t had the careers we’ve expected. I’ll wait until guys commit to read about them but I’m not gonna stress out over it anymore. It’s not worth the hemorrhoids.

I can understand why someone might choose to avoid recruiting, but people like Maizen only make me stop reading comments from people like Maizen.  Would you stop doing other things because there are other terrible people out there?  I used to like ice cream buy my neighbor is an asshole and claims it isn't as good as sorbet so I stopped eating ice cream.  No, ignore the asshole and eat your bowl of ice cream.

A day after UM has 4 OL drafted Rocco Spindler gets multiple crystal balls to Notre Dame and Davidikov is now almost certainly going to Iowa. About sums up the state of Michigan football.

From what I understand the only OL UM might be leading for is Drew Kendall. Appears UM is trailing other schools for Rucci, Dellinger, and Latham at tackle. Spindler was a heavy UM lean at one point and now there are rumors swirling he has given ND a silent. This is starting to feel a lot like last year when UM missed on a bunch of targets they were thought to be in on.

The following has been true for the past several years:

Michigan offers 300+ kids in every class.

Only ~28 can accept offers.

For every single class, there are going to be about 275 "disappointments." Heck, we're approaching a point where there's a disappointment for every single day of the year if you want to look at it like that.

I understand what you're trying to say but this is a false pretense that is not accurate in this context. UM has missed on more of their top targets than they historically have over the last few recruiting cycles and it's why their classes have finished lower than you would normally expect in the rankings. There's a hierarchy to scholarship offers and the effort spent on targets is proportional to where they sit on the board. I'm sure you know that.

I'd take any sort of "Spindler giving Notre Dame a silent commit" rumor with a grain of salt until we hear for sure. Notre Dame fans and insiders are the most optimistic and entitled fans out there who feel that they lead and deserve every recruit they offer

ND insiders and fans aren’t the ones who are saying this. It was leaked by other recruits. Then recruiting analysts went looking into it to see if it was true. That’s when it was explained that he committed with the huge caveat that he still takes his 5 OV’s & can still be recruited. So it’s more of a case that ND is his clear leader, and he locked up a spot in case visits don’t happen. It’s a unique commitment in these unique times. This is happening all over the country.

AF1618

I’m going to explain this to you REAL SLOW this time...

Brian Kelly & ND are not doing what they normally do this cycle because of the current environment. There are MULTIPLE recruits currently committed to ND who are still going to make OVs later if they can. That is a FACT. Kelly is allowing it because he REALLY wants these kids & he understands this is a unique situation & is allowing kids, who are elite recruits, to commit & still OV.

So again, you are wrong. You are talking out of your mouth with info that isn’t accurate in this situation.
I can tell you for a FACT that recruits are committed who still plan on taking OV’s.

Harbaugh can’t recruit Michigan worth a fuck. Cannot lose Spindler but it’s looking that way. We need to start getting some defensive recruits. All we have right now are a bunch of 3 star kids. That’s not going to hold up against all these 5 stars that osu are getting. I don’t see us beating them with this coaching staff..

JoeMama11

Where are you getting this information that we trail on Spindler? If anything Michigan leads or is tied with Notre Dame. The crystal balls that went in yesterday mean nothing considering they came from unknown sources. And if we are trailing, he still plans on taking visits to his top 5 schools before he commits.

kdall

April 27th, 2020 at 12:28 PM ^

How exactly are they "unknown sources" when it literally says Kevin Sinclair and Bill Kurelic next to their predictions. From what I read Kurelic's prediction was based on some things he heard from Loy. FWIW both Sinclair and Loy had McGregor crystal ball'd to Notre Dame last year so their info here is not the be all end all. I'd worry if Webb, Wiltfong, or Trieu change their pick, until then it's something to monitor but not worry about IMO.

I can tell you three things I am certain about:

1) Michigan is not tied or in the lead currently for Spindler

2) PSU is probably tied or close to being tied with UM

3) The agreement (I don’t call it a commitment) between ND & Spindler happened a couple weeks ago.

I posted about it on this board in another thread last week long before the CB’s came on. I’ve known about it (along with others) for probably ten days or so. I posted on this board last week “something happened with Spindler and ND a few weeks ago.”

David Davidkov? With a name like that was there any doubt he’d be going to Iowa or Wisconsin? That’s one of the more Iowa/Wisconsin names I’ve ever heard.
