So here it is boys, some of the new tweaks... Deeper be a pro mode, winter outdoor classic, live goalies and nets, goalie fights, broken glass, players dumped into boards, helmets knocked off...

Plus, a "big announcement coming soon"

Could it be... College teams? Please let it be....

I don't even bother with Madden or NCAA anymore. The NHL series has left them in the dust.

that rumor has been strong since 2011 was released...I really, REALLY hope they get the NCAA on board to put it in the game. That would be epic...I do not expect anything that over the top great (band, Yost in great detail, crowd noise)...but just playing with Michigan would be simply outstanding. I usually do not buy a game every year it comes out, but if they start to have NCAA teams in the game, I will buy it for sure!

Also, please include the Red Wings winter classic jerseys from 2009...

I think NCAA 11 was pretty legit, I love playing the different types of offenses. I agree that Madden is pretty much just eye candy at this point.

I just don't like that i can call two offensive plays on the most difficult level, all season, and the cpu does not figure it out.

I don't even really want to cheat like that, it's just knowing that the AI is still lacking.

I kind of get driven to glitch like that, when even the worst opposing quarterbacks have impossible efficiency.

I completely agree about NHL being the best of the EA sports games, with only FIFA close behind.  I used to love NCAA but they need some serious work on that series.  I'm most excited about goalie physics.

Everyone who has lost interest in NCAA needs to start checking out NCAA 12. It will be the best NCAA in the franchise. I will admit, even though I dont like hockey, that NHL is the best in the EA series. Im telling you NCAA 12 is going to reel you guys back in.

I hope you're right, I went on NCAA Football 12's website the other day to check the release date and on its home page there's a Michigan defender with dreads, I know this has already been discussed but it was still great to see.

Did you like NHL '09?

I bought it, absolutely hated it, and returned it.  I've stayed away from the EA sports nhl franchise since (2kSports ftw).  I just found that I was spending half the game in a scrum on the boards.  And then I had to invert my shooting motion (based on the dual sticks) every period, meaning I could never get any rhythm.  And the user interface was one of the worst I've ever seen in a sports game.  While I understand EA's desire to make the game more realistic, its a fucking video game.  People want fast-paced action, flying up and down the ice, with big hits and ridiculous goals.

What I'm asking is, were the '10/'11 installments any better than '09?  Or did you think '09 was awesome?

Also, helmets getting knocked off and the glass on the end board breaking have been around since NHL '04.

I  bought NHL 09 when it came out and liked it. Didnt think it was great but I played it alot. After playing 10 and 11 obsessively the last 2 years (just recently got 11), I played 09 again the other day (its the only one my friend had at his house) and we turned it off immediately. It was awful compared to the latest versions.

You can either tweak, so that button controls are responsible for shooting, checking etc., or i guess stick with 2K (did they even come out with an 11 edition?)

And to answer your question, yes, the game is a legitimate improvement from '09.

The realistic physics make it hard to glitch or fall into the repetitive goal/success mode, that make a game boring imo. The deflections in front of the net are all kinds of fun.

The other cool thing is that if you are in franchise mode. It will have most of the actual draftable rookies for the upcoming year, since it has legit OHL, WHL and QMJHL rosters. Now if we could just get the NCAA...

So players like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Strome, Adam Larsson, and the rest of the projected top picks for the upcoming draft in June, are already in the game that was released last October.

It's mind-blowing how thorough the EA dev Canucks up in Vancouver are.

I tried tweaking button controls, but it dumbed it down way too much.  It's like EA assumed their customer base was split into a bunch of retards, and a set of people who had joysticks glued to their hands (and no life whatsoever).

But its good to hear that the newer versions have been improvements.  I'll probably give '11 a shot for a week when '12 first comes out, and then get '12 if I like it.

They only had 2k11 for Wii, though its rumored that they're devving up a 2k12 edition.  I have older versions of NHL 2k which I love.  That's the beauty of hockey games - even playing the older ones is still fun because you get a trip down memory lane of all the players that once were.  And its always fun to take a run at Eric Lindros.

I forget when it was but a few years back I started to hate the NHL games when they made the joystick control the stick movements because I was used to the classic controls since the mid to early nineties but the system eventually grew on me

What's great about the NHL games in general is I can put in 1994, 2003, or 2009 and even though they are completely different games still have a lot of fun playing them. I feel the series has evolved better than Madden.

College teams would be a cool but in my mind strange addition to the new game unless there is like a college circuit or something.

NHL is BY FAR the best EA Sports series out there.  I abandoned it for a few years and stuck with Madden and NCAA Football but wow, NHL 11 is addicting and I cannot wait for NHL 12.  I wish NCAA and Madden took some lessons from the NHL 11 developers.  They are top notch.

IIRC, it is EA Canada, yes?

I would say that FIFA is still king, but the last three NHL installments have really closed the gap. I think the passing in 11 needs work, and some of the AI sucks, but other than that it is a great game. I can't wait for the new FIFA, though. Portland Timbers dynasty mode here I come.

'10 was better than '09, '11 was better than '10 and '12 looks even better.

I still have a few minor complaints with '11 that i hope '12 addresses, though. The soundtrack still sucks, although it's way better than 2010. Looking for opponents on xbox live is fairly glitchy. And the forehand-backhand shot, or vice versa, that goes in 100% of the time every time is both infuriating and embarrassing. Also Jimmy Howard is underrated on '11, but there is no way they don't raise his ratings on '12.

the soundtrack is the easiest thing to fix.  if you have a windows pc at home, set it up on the same network, install zune media player, and stream music to your xbox while playing.  you can build playlists in zune or even in itunes (you just need to export them).  the music plays over the game audio, so you can still listen to the commentary, rink sounds, etc (or not), but you get exactly the music you want.  for this reason, soundtracks are the most overrated aspect of a game imo.
