New NCAA Rule against Harbaugh?

Submitted by JonnyHintz on
Just saw a tweet from Sam Webb. He said Harbaugh was signing autographs for fans when a compliance officer made him stop. Harbaugh said, "The NCAA just made a rule 10 minutes ago saying I couldn't." Link to tweet: https://twitter.com/samwebb77/status/739113610346127364 Another stupid rule by the NCAA, meanwhile Baylor and Tennessee are getting away with rape, Ole Miss is paying players, etc. But Harbaugh better not be signing autographs for fans.

He already has been. Greg Sankey filed a FOIA just to see how much Harbaugh spends on air travel for various camps and recruiting.

I never knew what his end game was there but I figured they were trying to bust him for something. And apparently Harbaugh is the only coach that travels by plane.

With Michigan on the rape cover-up scheme. Michigan set a fine example for them when Gibbens and Lewan were on Campus. UM is a pillar among the rape cover-up artist.

Even if they did something like this, it is perhaps all part of a larger campaign to figure out why no one in his beloved conference is willing to front a similar amount of money for these sorts of things. Of course, if Sankey actually did something like this, the attempt by him to use such things as proof that their course was the right one would be hilarious in a weird way.

There will probably be multiple rules against Harbaugh. He's just too good. Kind of like Wilt Chamberlain, he was so good in the paint, that they banned dunking for a year. Wilt would also jump from the free throw line and do a layup for his free throws but thay banned that too because Wilt was just too good to be stopped without making rules against him.

Because it's the NCAA, and they can pretty much make a rule for whatever they want. They'll ignore the major infractions, but call the compliance office for autographs. The most corrupt and useless organization that I can think of, and that includes FIFA. Instead of worrying about Harbaugh signing autographs, there is a plethora of improper benefits and Title IX issues going on in the south that they should be worrying about.

I don't think it's a rule against autographs.  The compliance dept is probably afraid of "impermissable contact" with someone who may be a recruit standing in the autograph line.  It's hard to tell when you are shaking hands and signing autographs with hundreds of people.

Dumb, but that's the world we live in.

Meanwhile in the state of Mississippi . . . .

IIRC from last year I think there were rules against him (or any other coach) promoting the camps or something. I'm guessing that is what it's related to. Possibly an addendum that forbids public interaction or something.

I think I remember that as well. The University couldn't advertise the camp unless they were hosting the camp. Michigan, being a guest (albeit the top school in attendance) at most of these camps isn't allowed to advertise. Pretty soon Harbaugh won't be allowed to give speeches at the camps (football instruction only), no more guest athletes (a la Hank Aaron), no NFL guest coaches, and no NFL players allowed either.

Hopefully he shrugs it off. This is the type of shit that drives most people off. College football, hell, the whole world, needs more people with the passion that Coach Harbaugh. All the lazy fucks and cheaters make rules against the intelligent and hard working.

The NCAA and the SEC are the new Trent Baalke and Jed York except they can't fire him. Everybody said when Jim came here his intensity and pushing boundaries would eventually wear on his bosses and things would end poorly. But it seems like he's turned that rebel energy onto the NCAA and their asinine rules. It's an added bonus for everybody who loves Michigan football and hates the way the NCAA is run.

Man the NCAA is just disgusting...

Who or what oversees this crime syndicate? Maybe the DOJ really needs to take a closer look. Hell even the threat was enough to get them to back off for a min. But it is still up to its slimeball ways.
