This will be the thread for hot takes regarding the offense and offensive playcalling.

If they are going to need to pass a lot to win the game, then they were going to be in trouble regardless. This is a run first time. They are not going to win a shootout with OSU. Now, if they have to make a few throws here and there and possibly a few passing TDs, then yeah. They can do that. Also, they need Luke back and also Edwards. They may not be able to throw downfield, but they will be able to pass to win as long as they are able to run well.

I liked that Karsch asked Harbaugh in the pre-game about taking some deep shots downfield and needing to improve at it (as opposed to typical softball interview Qs). Harbaugh seemed to admit that, yeah, it was something they'd like to see improvement at. He said that they've been hitting them in practice. He also said that they weren't going to start heaving bombs unless the game situation was right.

He and his staff aren't idiots. They know that they need to keep working on it because, at some point, they might need it.

It isn't their intelligence, it's our ability to do so. The WR's don't separate, and don't make tough catches. A team that has great talent, like OSU, if they concentrate their whole game plan on taking away Blake, can usually take that aspect away. So you have to go somewhere else, and we may have to pass to win, can we?

AA is on the field plenty. He just never seems to be in when its a passing play. Suggesting the coaches feel his blocking is decent to good. He has been reliable when the ball has come his way, aside from today’s drop. CJ has been the one with the dropsies. He and Bell. Who seems to catch anything difficult while struggling with the routine stuff.

This.  Watching other games, so many QBs were dropping deep dimes all over the place and JJ went 0-5 downfield, consistently overthrowing everyone yet again. He regressed badly yesterday.  Alarming.
OSU will be crowding the box all day after watching our last few games.

As always, we aren’t trying to score style pointes; we are trying to win games. And it has worked every game this season. 31 points in crappy weather while controlling the game from start to finish - I’ll take that.

Not sure “hey maybe actually execute on some of the pass plays you call” is really “style points”. I’ve got no problem leaning heavy on the run game when it’s unstoppable. I am a bit worried that leaning on the run game is a “have to” and not a “want to” at this point.

Ground game amazing. Passing attempts made, sort of. Still some questions on passing game.

Looked like solid run blocking per usual. A few busts in pass pro, but some of that might be on McCarthy.
