ND bias shown huge in Army AA game

Submitted by WolvinLA on
Jake Golic was the latest kid to be named to the Army All-American game. He is an ND commit. http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=883735 Here are his credentials: He is a 2-star TE. Although he is not ranked nationally by Rivals as a TE, he is ranked as the #7 overall recruit in the talent-rich state of Connecticut. In fact, he is the second overall rated 2-star in the entire state. He is not the lowest rated recruit ND has this year, there is a kicker rated below him (although they also have a kicker commit rated above him). Lastly, he boasts a bench max as high as 220 lbs. This, gentlemen, is an Army All-American.

His brother Mike was a 3 star center, that committed to ND, and he was selected in the AA game as well. He boasted offers from Notre Dame and U Conn......

Because it gets them positive publicity because you know darn well that if he weren't selected there would be no talk of the game on his father's radio show (which is an ESPN show), but now that he has been it will be discussed (not saying it will be discussed a lot, but more than it would have been had he not been picked). I should have been more precise with my original point.

NBC televises the AA game and as everyone knows they televise ND home games. It is probably in their best interest to showcase as much future Golden Domers as possible. Not saying it is cool or anything, but from a "business standpoint" I can understand why they would have so many ND commits play in the game.

If they're going to pick ND guys for ratings purposes, they should at least pick the good ones. This kid isn't going to see the field in the AA game, and if he does, he's going to get dominated by the real all americans. Does that encourage people to watch more ND?

Sean Mara, grandson of late Giants owner Wellington Mara, was invited a few years ago. He ended up committing to Fordham. So, I think this is more of a relative of famous person bias. If it was a Notre Dame bias, they probably could have picked a less terrible ND commit.

Doesn't Lemming help pick these teams. Isn't he a pretty big ND homer? I don't know but I thought I heard that. The trail isn't hard to follow if that's the case.

I am not overly surprised that the son of a "famous" ND alum would receive an invite to an all-star game hosted by NDBC, but what does surprise me are his stats. 220 bench and 300 squat? I'm only 165lbs and a marathon runner, and I can bench and squat about that much weight. Even if this kid is a mediocre athlete, I doubt that these numbers are right. If they are, then Golic needs to spend less time babbling on the radio with Greenie and spend more time with his son in the weight room/Dungeon.

I couldn't agree more. I was a pretty scrawny kid on my hs football team, and I could bench and squat that much. I think there were girl athletes at my high school who could as well. I prefer not to think of them as fake, but to think of him as a huge puss bag. EDIT: I prefer not to think of them as fake, but to think of the entire Golic family as huge puss balls. Better?
