NCAA Tourney Evening (6-9) Open Thread
This should be enough to talk about until the LATE games:
On now: Drake vs USC
6:25 Grand Canyon vs Iowa
7:10 Maryland vs Connecticut
7:15 Ohio vs Virginia
7:25 Missouri vs Oklahoma
Who do you like? What's your BOC (Beverage of Choice)?
Not sure what UCSB was thinking against Creighton at the very end. Creighton missed a free throw and UCSB grabbed the rebound with 2 seconds left and down by 1. Instead of calling their last timeout right away to set up a shot to win it, they instead do not call a timeout and proceed to heave a 3/4 court prayer that has no chance of going in. Terrible coaching. Pissed me off since I had UCSB winning.
NEVER, piss off Walter White. : )
You are right. They wouldn't have had much chance either way, but no chance this way.
That USC was boring AF. Glad the Iowa game started, Garza already with a three.
ummm, two 3's.
Garza is on fire. Very impressive how we slowed him this season.
The 7-10 game is on at 7:10.
Woah.
The 8 v 9 game is at 8:90
Blew my mind
Coincidence? I think not.
Luka Garza comes off like an incredible douche.

Because he is.
UConn cannot shoot for shit but Maryland cannot get a defensive rebound.
UConn has 14 offensive rebounds and 19 points. That's incredible.
Fun game to watch. The coaches and the players could all use a valium
Don't think I've ever seen a team w/ 14 offensive boards in the 1st half yet they're down by 9... wow UConn..
I’m rooting for Iowa and Maryland to win so the story changes from “the Big 10 was overrated” to “Ohio State sucks donkey ass.”
So far, MGoFaveRave UConn is getting beat by ??’s team.
The Grand Canyon student section is definitely repping some scenic views....I'll give em' that!!
I guess Grand Canyon was set up perfectly for covid19 as they have a kick ass online program, amirite!
I remain unimpressed with UConn.
Iowa has a much more favorable matchup than UM. Grand Canyon is a poor man’s B1G team compared to the chaotic style of TSU earlier.
Watching so many games and it seems like TX. Southern looked better than some of these 14 and 15 seeds.
Maryland playing well...
Maryland dropping bombs
Wiggins with a violent dunk
This cracks me up:
North Texas joins the ranks of 232 other D1 teams to win their first NCAA Tournament game in program history before Nebraska.

I thought UConn was supposed to be some amazing, scary team that we were really grateful wasn't in the 8/9 game in our side of the bracket? Ace and others really fooled me, as I had UConn going to the Elite Eight. Oh well, if they have to lose, at least it's to a Big Ten team.
Yeah, the more I looked at UConn toward the end of the year the more I think the MGoBlog community overrated what Bouknight's absence actually meant. He's a good one-on-one player but he's not a great all-around playmaker and UConn was pretty mediocre against anyone with a pulse. It's not surprising that Maryland have them trouble all day.
Yea one thing that was not factored in with UConn is they are coached by a Hurley. Those guys belong in the same category as Rick Barnes and Cuonzo Martin. You never trust those coaches in the tournament.
Sad thing is Mark Turgeon is in that group too. Someone had to win though.
Solving the Maryland defense isn't that much of a riddle. But you do have to pass.
OU representing the MAC well against Virginia.
Dante Scott with the cheap shot above out of bounds that could’ve gotten the UConn player hurt then tries to play it off as sportsmanship lol
Bennett is a great coach, and he has a national championship and multiple conference championships so he isn’t going anywhere. However, his style of play is so susceptible to getting upset in a win or go home scenario
A National title sandwiched between 2 1st rd exits, one being against a 16 seed and another being a 13 seed... yeesh UVA, talk about variance.
Maybe the disappointment talk will shift from Big Ten to ACC
Virginia had a horseshoe up their ass that entire 2019 tournament though. Unbelievable how much luck they had throughout that entire tournament.
UVA not going down without a fight !
I hope they do go down though
THE Ohio University with the upset
I wonder if this is a record for double digit seeds winning the first round.
The b-ball gods decided to go 0-for-Hauser in the first round.
ACC is so bad. Maybe the worst it’s been in decades.
MACTION!!!
Lol Virginia.
were any of these guys freshman when they lost in 2018?
I thought about picking them to lose because I thought about that , but i wrongly picked them in both my brackets .
Refs could’ve reviewed the time during the timeout, instead they tried to ice the Ohio player.
Nice job Maryland
Perhaps these NBA analysts will get off the Bigtens tip now
Maryland impressed me against UConn. Really only OSU and (maybe, sorta Purdue) stinking up the joint for the Big 10. Assuming Iowa wins this will be a pretty good first round for the conference.
EDIT: Didn't realize Iowa already played. So yeah, good first round for the conference.
Iowa has to play again?
Sorry, I hadn't checked their score. Thought they still had to play.
"pretty good" would be too generous in my opinion considering where our teams were seeded. We got a couple of nice mild upsets with Maryland and Rutgers, but I doubt either have much elite eight potential. I'd classify performance so far as respectable. If I'm not mistaken only four teams seeded 5 or better have lost, half from Big Ten. Conference record so far is on par with expectations but I think prospects for multiple Big Ten teams in elite eight and final four have decreased.
NSU holding their own vs the ZAG's. Let's go Norfolk!
