NCAA Tournament Selection Open Thread

Selection show is going on right now. Things of note so far, love that the Spartans would get the overall #1 in the Sweet Sixteen (if they get by Maryland), along with OSU, so only one is coming out of there. And congrats to Oakland for getting in. And Vandy a #4...they just keep winning.. Half way through....then 4 more hours of analysis... LOL

I love that they do that. Reminds me of last year, although it makes me sad they didn't get in this year, especially since they would have probably faced Minnesota in the championship game.

I thought Ohio State got jobbed a little bit by the selection committee. I know they try to slot teams regionally, but to be in the Kansas bracket makes them the lowest #2 seed. For a team that won the Big 10 regular season and the tournament, that seems a little low to me. Especially since they were getting #1 seed consideration. Looks like I will be rooting for Georgetown and Kansas!

I see that they were ranked #5 (AP) going in to the Big 10 tournament. This basically means that they were jumped by West Virginia (#7), K State (#9), and Villanova (#10) *after* winning the crown.

West Virginia and Kansas St #2 seeds. If we're awarding #2 seeds for programs with coaching connections, all tied together, shouldn't we be a 2 also? OSU is a 2 also, and it took them till no time to beat us. Michigan #2 in the South babee!!! (No, not taking bets... ;-) ).

Is Illinois going to make it? Did Minny pass them in the tournament? I dont know if there is room left for them. Especially with Purdue still there.

FYI- completely ot- didn't want to waste room on the board with a useless topic, but Brady Quinn was just traded to the broncos for peyton Hillis and 2011 and 2012 draft picks.

Higher than I expected but I am no basketball expert, I thought 7-8 at the highest based on what most were saying and was actually expecting a fall to 9-10 being my pessimistic self. The committee must have put an emphasis on the way ND finished especially after Gody went down with his injury. Going 6-1 over the last 7 games including 4 wins from the top 50 and that loss coming from the big east champion, who they lost to by 2. It should be fun game to watch against Old Dominion.

But does it seem Conference Tourney results didn't drop anyone's seeding except for Big Ten teams?

They said the late game results didn't effect teams that were on the bubble but minny gets in over two 20 win teams in Virginia tech and rhode island as well as Mississippi state who went to ot against Kentucky in the sec tournament

Miss. State got screwed by the refs. Wall clearly made a lane violation to get the ball at the end of regulation. In the SEC, its 8 on 5 when you play UK. They have gotten the benefit of being the only traditional power team in a non-power (basketball) conference for years.

No love for the Big 10. Ohio State ends up as the number 8 team in the tourney and would have to beat Kansas to get to the final four. MSU gets a 5 seed (about right), Purdue seeded as a 4 cause of Hummel's injury, and Wisconsin gets a 4 (about right). Only one of the two bubble teams from teh Big 10 gets in - Minnesota over Illinois.

Really? Bad enough they switched from the ORIGINAL version, but what, Luther's been dead long enough, time to get American Idol hip? And isn't this the MEN'S Tournament?

The Midwest is by far the strongest bracket. KU and OSU got F'd - hard. How is OSU worse than Villanova, KSU, and West Virginia? WVU is the only other 2 seed that won it's conference tourney (and didn't win the regular season title).

The Midwest is a tough bracket. Man, did Tennessee get screwed for losing big to UK! An RPI of 15, beat two number 1's this year, and still a 6 seed. No love for BP from the selection committee. Maybe he should have World Wide Wes buy him some players!

Go Orange! I like our draw by the chalk... Vermont: Payback's a bitch. Gonzaga: This one scares me a bit. Vanderbilt: I'd rather face them than a number of 4 and 5-seeds. Kansas State: Their marquee win is against Texas when they were #1, only to find out that they were a paper tiger. And they weren't even competitive with Kansas on three occasions. Kansas has also only beat only one other team in the top-25, #21 Baylor. Kentucky isn't getting past Louisville in the 2nd-round.
