NCAA Chances

Remaining schedule:

@ Nebraska

Rutgers

Ohio State

Michigan State

@ Northwestern

Indiana

@ Rutgers

@ Purdue

Wisconsin

@ Ohio State

Nebraska

@ Maryland

On the road against Purdue, Rutgers, and Maryland are probable losses. I think they can win 2 of 3 on the road against Nebraska, OSU, and NW.

They should win at home against OSU and Nebraska. So the probable deciding games  are home vs. Rutgers, MSU, Indiana and Maryland

If they go 3-1 and end up 18-13, I think that’s enough to squeak in

If they split those games and are 17-14 overall and 8-12 conference......I think they’ll need at least 1 and possibly 2 wins in the B10 tourney to get in.

I would be shocked to see him on the floor again before the Wisconsin game (one month from now). Unfortunately, we play 8 games before then. The timing of this re-injury is terrible. Feel for the guy. He was pretty upset.

Also would not be surprised to hear that he is done for the year.

I don’t think he was ever “not injured.”  I think he saw that as a must win game and that he needed to suit up.  I would not have been surprised if he had sat out Nebraska even if the “reaggravation” did not happen.

If and I mean IF this team plays with a lack of emotion would mean they are not buying into Juwan Howard. That would be bad.

At this point, the wind is out of their sails. The dagger was the loss at Minn.

Let's hope this team goes to Neb and plays with hustle and emotion on Tuesday.

At this point I'm not even sure it's worth getting excited about without livers as there really is no hope for a legit run as the team can't shoot and doesn't play close to the excellent defense it has in past years.

There was always a feeling in the past that a Cinderella run was possible if a few things broke right but that is not case this year

it's almost impossible to speculate w/o knowing livers' status.  if he is out again for a while, chances are very slim.  with him your scenario is as good as any.

Think about this for a minute..Rutgers is better in basketball than we are..RUTGERS!!!

thats how far Michigan has sunk under Howard...Humiliating

There are 5 home games and 7 road games left. Rutgers in MSG is not a home game.

Lets play this out. I can’t imagine Michigan getting into the tournament with fewer than 18 regular-season wins (their OOC resume isn’t that impressive anymore). That would mean going 7-5 the rest of the way. They’ve gone 2-8 over their last 10 games against high-majors. Even if they did beat Neb, NW, and OSU on the road, they would have to go 4-1 at home. They’re 1-2 at home in their last 3 against high-majors. IOW, they have a 0% chance of making the tournament.

2 maybe 3 more total wins. Nebraska is beating Rutgers on the road right now(Neb just lost by 3 but it will be tough for us on the road). We are probably not beating Neb away at least. Home probably.

I think we can beat Wisconsin and one of Ohio State or Rutgers.

That would put us at 14-17 so not even good enough for the NIT.

Ouch!

No offense, OP, but your predictions on the rest of the schedule and “should wins” are far too optimistic. Michigan is 1-5 this calendar year and that sole win came in a 2-OT thriller at home against a team missing their leading scorer for much of the game that required Simpson making miraculous shots just to send it to those OTs.

There are no “should wins” on the schedule. Until they can actually win a game period, let alone multiple in a row, we shouldn’t be penciling in any win right now, let alone projecting them to win 7 more games after they only won 2 against high-majors the last 2 months.

If they continue to shoot threes like they have been... 0%. If they can improve ...30%. If they can be consistent... 50%. Without Livers I think it’s more like the 0-30%.

It’s doable. It’s not likely unless something changes, but I only see two almost guaranteed losses - Michigan State and @Maryland. The problem is 7-5 is most likely what’s needed to guarantee a berth. That’s a tall order when most of those games are toss ups at best.

Not going to happen. This team is done. Worst shooting team in the country. Can’t make a free throw when it matters and horrible 3 point shooting. You can tell when they shoot one they are just hoping it goes in.

The floor has become the ceiling for this team. There is still opportunity to make it. Unfortunately, It would take a dramatic improvement in Teske’s post-up offense and in perimeter shooting and Livers to be as effective as he was pre injury for that to happen. All of which are extremely unlikely.

Home against MSU is a near certain loss as well.

That's 5 likely losses, 4 toss-ups, and 3 likely wins.  We probably finish the regular season 16-15.  We're not making the tournament.

It’s not only shooting. It’s timely shooting. Make a couple early and the defense has to defend it. Start off 1-11 or 3-14 and they get to sag and emphasize defending the post. Also, it would be nice if Wagner could EVER hit a momentum changing three.

10%.  Cant  make free throws.  Iintelligent play is a challenge. Too many 3s.  Next year. Need a guard that can shoot also.  They should all be still in the gym practicing. Send a message.

There are exactly zero likely wins on that list. This is one of the worst teams in the B1G currently.

I wonder if Warde and Juwan would swallow their pride and go to the CBI this year?

This team has lost its confidence and cannot shoot. Hard to believe the team that stared out so hot has totally collapse. Now we'll have to see if they can make the NIT.
