NBA Players to Wear "Smart Ring" Monitored by UM

Cool story, bros. The ring monitors vitals and gives an overall "wellness score" that can indicate when a player might be sick.

My question is... Maybe I am unfairly generalizing NBA players based on rumors and stories, but will the ring still work when the player takes it off to get some "strange" from a "groupie" waiting in the lobby of the Disney hotels??? :-D

It's not that you are unfairly generalizing, it's more that you are singling them out rather than noting that within professional sports it is common to man-slut.

Dude, thanks for trying to help, but I wasn't talking about just Kobe! You are going to get me neg-bombed back to 1950. I have known exactly one NBA player in my life, and he told me stories about teams showing up at hotels and LITERALLY 100 gorgeous women would be just waiting in the lobby to party with the players. And it was the very rare NBA player - married, single, whatever - that did NOT take advantage of this "side benefit"...

Because NBA players are that different than MLB, NFL, or NHL players? Even if this was funny, it’s 8th grade level humor. Bravo.

To be fair, the other leagues haven't agreed to wear the ring, so the joke wouldn't work for them.

I do remember this old SI story about athletes getting nailed with paternity suits from their . . . adventures on the road.  It's not only about NBA players but they do feature prominently in the story.  I don't know how much things have changed since this story was written.

Cripes.

I clicked to make a semi-witty comment about U of M perfecting mood rings with advanced technological breakthroughs, only to realize I'll have to monitor it instead.

This actually might be an interesting subplot. I doubt groupies will be allowed in the lobby, will that positively or negatively effect play?

Not unfairly generalizing. There are stories of NBA players having a different woman in each city. I heard it explained on the radio once from a retired NBA player (can't remember who is was). Because NBA teams fly in one day and out the next, and the season happens during the school year, it is very rare for the players' family to come with on road trips. So getting some "strange" is easy. Plus it is an accepted part of the league so none of your teammates will rat you out. Where in the MLB, a team stays for a three or four game series and it's during the summer, having family around is a lot more common. Even if it is other players' family, they may still tell your wife what's going on.

Hopefully they will take these rings off while practicing and playing games? I have heard of more than anecdotal evidence of hand injuries getting a ring caught on the rim.
