Msu bball having trouble with Rutgers
Up 52-48 with 7 minutes to go. Maybe they aren't as good as thought in the preseason?

Time to cue Izzo to start whining.

Cool.
UNC lost at UVA, they now have 3 Ls on the season already (like Staee lolololol)
Gonzaga beat 22 Washington.
Iowa State is facing 16 Seton Hall, would be nice for M if they get a good W here.
December 8th, 2019 at 9:14 PM ^
Dumb thread. Make a thread if they lose. Not up 4 with 7 minutes to go.

Right now, this is as bad of a MSU team that I can remember. They seem to have enough pieces that they should be playing better than this.
Lucky for them that it is only December and they got to open with Rutgers and Northwestern.

They will click in Feb/March
December 9th, 2019 at 9:25 AM ^
They can't shoot. Not sure that is something that can click. They have one shooter on their team. Winston can't take every shot.
December 9th, 2019 at 9:28 AM ^
Fran and Iowa disagree that one player can't take all the shots.
December 9th, 2019 at 10:09 AM ^
That was a response to defense, not a strategy. Howard/Martelli did not double and overplayed every perimeter player to take away three point shots. Garza was the only place Iowa had to go and that is the devil you know. Howard/Martelli (Howtelli?) also knew that Iowa plays no defense and we could simply outscore them, particularly if all they did was try to Garza us. It was coaching for the particular opponent as opposed to coaching to scheme. It was pretty refreshing actually.

BINGO!! BINGO!! BINGO!!!

They look lost when Winston isn’t on the court. Maybe a healthy Rocket would partially fix that.

Jim Leonhard must've given their pregame speech.
December 8th, 2019 at 9:35 PM ^
You've been here long enough to know better.

Sparty was already overrated coming into the season. Losing Langford perhaps for season, and the tragedy with Cassius brother, has really taken its toll on this team.
Their role players, now starters from last season - Aaron Henry, Gabe Brown, Marcus Bingham - are not playing well right now. Our role players - Brooks, DDJ, Wagner, Johns - are all getting stronger.
And with sophomore point guards and old high school rivals - DDJ for us, Foster Loyer for Sparty - who got the better end of that deal! Loyer didn't even play v. Rutgers - he looks like a community college guard when in the game.
I really like our team right now - know Sparty not feeling the same.
December 8th, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
Loyer played at least two shifts against Rutgers, he just didn’t do anything to impact the box score.
December 8th, 2019 at 11:50 PM ^
I stand corrected - but that’s almost worse.
December 9th, 2019 at 8:14 PM ^
It's hard to play with broken ankles....
December 8th, 2019 at 10:00 PM ^
And maybe they would have lost if you hadn’t posted this.
December 9th, 2019 at 8:54 AM ^
If you actually believe that a post on a win/loss prediction affects a game's outcome, I have a bridge to sell you :D
December 8th, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
OP reminds me of the stupid Sparty who undoubtedly went on rcmb to laugh about us presumptively losing to Alabama.
Nice job little brother.

Rutgers are not terrible at basketball.
December 8th, 2019 at 11:10 PM ^
Don't look now but UM's 4th-best OOC win is going to beat MSU's best OOC one.
December 8th, 2019 at 11:12 PM ^
The problem is that the Detroit media has journalists writing for them that do not have a clue about athletics. They built up MSU basketball just like they did Michigan football this year and when the teams do not do as expected then they bash the coaches. Journalism sucks today. It’s pure opinion instead of truths. Fake News!
December 9th, 2019 at 9:39 AM ^
I doubt they bash Tim Izzo
December 8th, 2019 at 11:32 PM ^
I think Izzo is massively overrated but it is early December. Don’t think this MSU team is as strong as last season, but it is certainly too early to write them off. But this is why I would rather start the season unranked.
December 9th, 2019 at 8:43 AM ^
Good thread. Teams never change as the season goes on.
December 9th, 2019 at 12:14 PM ^
If we had McQuaid and they had Poole.....we would have won all 3 games against them last year.
