MSU lost DL coach Marco Coleman this offseason too.
Huge hit for their DL recruiting.
It's not enough that we should succeed - others should fail.
I have a competition in me. I want no one else to succeed.
We drink Mel’s milkshake!
Uh, this is sparty we're discussing. Don't be silly.
Is this the guy Mike Morris was training with?
Yes.
Going to the Seahawks. Can't blame any coach for wanting to bail on college coaching insanity for the (relative) sanity of the NFL.
Glad he's gone. That could have been a significant bit of recruiting ammunition for Sparty against us.
I feel like his presence has played a big role in the DL recruiting. They have some highly rated recruits there that could be a nuisance.
I hear They lost him in him in the tunnel.
Their two highest ranked in the 23 class were DL, and they’re currently in the top two for the #13 player nationally in the 24 class, almost exclusively due to Brandon Jordan.
I don’t know enough about his on-field coaching abilities, as I feel individual player skill development isn’t everything that goes into being a position coach, but his recruiting impact was fairly significant
I wouldn't rush to judgment on this one.
Personally, I think he should've passed on the opportunity. Too many people rush into new positions before they're ready - before you know it, they're sacked.
there is such an obvious gap in your reasoning here and we're going to hold you to it. stay in your lane next time or you'll get twisted around.
But they still have Sir Robin!
I love the juxtaposition of him sternly admonishing reporters out of the way as he boldly leads the Spartans out on the field at the games beginning and his mincing skip away from his players (he is in their administration) as they weaselly attack their victors who were rushing happily to their own locker room in their own Tunnel in their own stadium.
Demonstrative.
This guy was basically the reason that MSU's DE recruiting was remotely good. Huge blow to MSU
Hold on. We were just told on another thread that this guy is an over rated coach who is just a good marketer.
We also know he is smart....cuz he knew to get the hell out of East Landfill.
Dline recruiting is different than dline coaching
The Seahawks must think his dline coaching is pretty good since I doubt they hired him to recruit.
Coaching guys already in the NFL is also different from coaching guys in college
We were just told on another thread that this guy is an over rated coach who is just a good marketer.
I mean based on what he did during his short stint at MSU, it's a true statement. He brought in 3 4* DEs in the 2023 class and former top 50 DL from TAMU from the portal. Did we really see him do much with MSU's pass rush? Didn't really seem like it. With that being said, recruiting is a huge part of CFB and MSU losing probably their best recruiter is a good thing
The issue with hiring young hotshot coaches is that they're inevitably bound for bigger things. He's been a key trainer for NFL guys for a while, so it seems like a logical step to join an NFL staff. Even if his coaching is an unknown since he's only been with MSU for a year, him leaving is a blow to them for sure. The recruiting chops were real, he had MSU reportedly leading for Etta before Michigan pulled him in, among the guys who he actually landed.
Speaking of which, I wonder if this affects their status with their DL recruits in the previous class. 3 of their top recruits were guys who probably chose MSU in large part due to his presence.
good. anything to make that shit football program worse
Keep chopping, MeLLLLLLL.
That’s 7L Mel to you.
Is Tuck still coming? Haven't heard much about that lately. Must have gotten a flat tire.
Remember that time Michigan State paid a guy $100M and then he went 5-7?
And kept the bonus money intended for his assistants? Probably does wonders for assistant retention.
What a shame…you hate to see it…
If my boss stole bonus money meant for me and and my coworkers and kept it for himself, I’d want out too.
Wut? Mel (Mr 9.5M/yr) stealing from his assistant coaches?
There was a 500,000 pool for the bonuses to the assistance for coaching for this past year. He kept it all
But with that big staff bonus Mel receives, why would anyone depart?
