Most Interesting B1G Game This Week?

Submitted by M Ascending on
I think most of us would say that (other than our game, of course) the Iowa-Minn. game is the most interesting, as it may have a substantial effect on the West Division race. But for me, it's PSU at Maryland. Md. seems to be making noise under Durkin, and PSU got back on the right track against Minn (sort of). I think this will be a pretty even affair and could give us an idea of just how far Maryland has come.

Indiana vs. OSU, just because it'll be interesting to see how OSU handles an IU team that might have some confidence.  They'll still win by 40, but it might be 61-21 instead of 40-0.

Also, PSU-Maryland should be fun.  I think MD is better than they are given credit for, and crapping on PSU is good for everyone.

That Iowa-Minnesota game is one of the grossest the conference has to offer this year. Minnesota just lost to Penn State. Iowa already has losses to NDSU and NW and looks lost. That game will be trash with a capital T.

I really want to watch Taysom Hill beat MSU in EL. I also want to watch the Mason-Dixon Battle between PSU and MD, just because MD is undefeated but they have played some horrible teams. If PSU wins then we can assume MD was a product of their competition. If they get the win then we know about as much about them as we did last week.

PSU hosting Maryland has me curious.  Can Maryland continue their offensive prowess against the Lions?  I don't think so, but can PSU score on the Terps?  I don't think so. So, Fuck Penn State.

I am kind of with you on this one - this one has me sort of interested, feelings about Penn State and that program's general state aside, because I haven't really sat down to see a Durkin-led Maryland yet and I might do that here. I think Maryland can take them in their own house really, as depleted as they now are on defense.

Indiana has played OSU relatively tough for the past 5 years, averaging 27 points over those games and only losing by 7 last year. Kevin Wilson has IU believing they can play with anybody and their confidence is high after beating MSU. If IU can put up 14 points early on the road and be in the game, I think the young bucks could be tested down to the wire. Yeah, I'm calling it, upset in Columbus!

I do feel like this will be more of a boat race than people are giving it credit for. That's how Indiana-Ohio State games have gone. I just don't see Indiana having the guns on either side of the ball to make it happen. I do think that this will be the most fun game on the B1G slate if you like two teams pummeling each other with touchdowns.

I'm interested to see how the Ohio State defense does.

Although unlikely, I hope Indiana sticks it to OSU. If that happens, maybe we'll also get a little Oklahoma schadenfreude since Wilson used to be the Oklahoma OC.

I don't think PSU has the players to pull away from MD.  And I think MD has much better coaching than PSU.  I see MD winning that game.

I also see MSU winning.  That pains me, but BYU is gonna BYU - they have no defense whatsoever, and that will show through.  Even O'Connor can hit a pass against BYU...

OP has PSU/Maryland backward: Maryland is going to Beaver Stadium.  That alone pushes this one to PSU, I think.  Maryland's one road game against a team that isn't named FIU ended up being a double OT victory against UCF, who Michigan of course steamrolled.  PSU showed some resolve last week in a comeback against Minnesota.  Think they continue to win at home.

Also of note, Maryland threw its first INT of the season last week against Purdue.  It took four games!

Michigan beat UCF by 37, Maryland played them even on the road (in regulation).

Michigan beat PSU by 39.  So Maryland will ________________on the road.

If you want to bust out the never-accurate transitive property, the correct answer here is Maryland will beat Penn State by 2 on the road.

Kidding aside, I like Maryland in this one.  That's my non-Michigan B1G game of the week.  I wanna take a good look at what Durkin's got going on over there.

I don't understand why anyone is intrigued with Indiana going to Columbus to get their asses handed to them. OSU is going to annihilate the Hoosiers.

I'm most interested in Indiana OSU, mainly because OSU is the only team the rest of the way we won't be heavily favored against so I'll be hoping to see any sort of OSU weakness.

OSU has been absolutely dominant so far, but they've actually played an incredibly weak schedule. They're 4-0 with wins against:

  • Rutgers who we know is terrible
  • 1-4 Bowling Green whose only win is a one point win over FCS North Dakota and has losses to EMU and to Memphis by 74(!)
  • 3-1 Tulsa whose best win is over a 1-4 San Jose State team (whose only win is over an FCS team) or a 7 point win over a 1-4 Fresno State team (whose only win is over an FCS team)
  • Oklahoma who can't play defense and their only decent performance this year has been a win over a 3-2 TCU team (whose best win is over Iowa State and who struggled FCS South Dakota State.

So OSU has looked dominant, but its not hard to look dominant with that schedule. I mean if our only 4 games were vs Hawaii, UCF, Penn State and the domination that will happen vs Rutgers, we'd seem just as invincible.

I'll be interested to see if Indiana can test OSU at all, especially coming off the big MSU win. They've actually been a surprsingly solid defensive team and have a solid offensive line that they can run behind. If OSU has looked weak in any area at times this year, it's been that their lines have been a bit underwhelming.

My guess is OSU wins big and we don't find out anything OSU for real until they go to Wisconsin, but I'll be hoping Indiana can put up a fight.

Is going to get blown out, they're terrible, I'll say 49-7 if they're lucky. This isn't the same IU teams like the past two seasons. I don't know what the line is, but I'd bet OSU goes above it.

If Ohio State blows Indiana out we know we can take it to state. If Indiana keeps it close, we know we have a chance against Ohio state but MSU might be better than we thought.

Indiana OSU could be good for a half. But I'm most interested in Maryland vs Penn State. Curious to see if the Terps can take care of business and get to 5-0. They could potentially be ranked when we play them if they can beat MSU at home and Indiana on the road. Unlikely, but who knows.

I am curious to see how long Indiana can hang with OSU. My guess is a half if they're lucky, but they have shown an ability the last few years to hang with them for a while. And now it looks like it has a defense that can at least stop a nosebleed.

IU has quietly had one of the best offenses around the last few years, so I'll be interested to see if they can keep OSU on its toes for a while.

want to see if Maryland is a decent team or not.  A win might not say as much about Maryland as it does Penn State though.

Also keep an eye on East Lansing.  BYU plays and hits hard, they could beat the Spartans and I for one will be looking for signs of the Old Spartan Nation I grew up with coming back. Glorious.
