More National Coverage

Not much for starting posts on here but one of the top stories on Good Morning America today was the Shane Morris hit and the coaching debacle.  I suspect this one is getting harder for the University to run and hide from.  I think this makes something happen today......if nothing else maybe a more meaningful and candid presser.

Nothing will be said IMO at the presser out of the ordinary.  This administration is too arrogant and will believe if they look the other way and ignore it then it will go away.  However, If we hear any reports of the players being called to Schemmy Hall, then look out!

Exactly. Brandon will keep his job and keep driving the Michigan program further into the ground. It took over a hundred years to build this program and DB had destroyed it in four years.

There is no way Hoke is gone today. Too many variables to consider with his firing today. It will be swift and quick when it happens, but not until end of season. coaching search may start now though

Michigan trounced an FCS team, looked ugly against the worst team in FBS, and only managed 1 offensive TD against ND/Utah/Minnesota, so 2014 season seems pretty equal if you ask me. Regarding previous seasons, Kansas' records, though ugly, were still technically improving each year, whereas Michigan's is getting worse. In addition, just in the general scheme of things, a 1-11 Kansas team is about the equivalent of a 6-6 Michigan team (ie. horrible and rare), so I don't think the comparision is that far off in relative terms.

Where is Mr. Brandon.  This guy loves to speak up with things are bad.  But, i have heard nothing for weeks from him.  At least, defend your man.  He didn't say anything about Gibbons.  Is the football program not part of the athletic department.

I love Brady, reminds me of my uncle, but this is getting very bad.  Where were all the assistants?

Suspension with pay for one week pending internal investigation of medical protocol and no one telling Hoke that the wobble occurred -- especially if Coach Nuss was telling him to stay down. Are there pictures of the sideline immediately after the wobble? I haven't seen any.

Kind of surprised, but they all seemed to agree the situation is being blown out of proportion.  They seem to think the concussion thing is speculation and the leg was looked at by staff and Shane was cleared.  So, it sounds like they are buying the Hoke speak hook, line, and sinker.

Webb said the same thing this morning.  They are correct, there's no evidence yet that Morris actually had a concussion.  But that is totally missing the entire fucking point.  The entire fucking point is that after taking a hit to head, and exhibiting initial symptoms of a head injury, Morris wasn't taken out of the game for evaluation.  I don't understand why people are missing this point.  If they took him out, he was evaluated, found to not have a concussion and re-inserted, then this whole thing is a non-issue.  But they didn't even take the time ro fucking evaluate a teenager for a possible brain injury.  I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here.

Injured or not is one thing, but is everyone forgetting the fact that Morris was COMPLETELY INEFFECTIVE the entre game.  Nothing against the kid but everyone had him as a 4* or 5* coming out of high school...to be in the program for almost 2 full years now and look completely unprepared?  Can this staff develop any talent?

Agreed.  Also, earlier in the game, the camera followed Shane to the sideline after a 3rd and long incompletion stalled the drive - bad throw.  I haven't re-watched the game, but I recall him weaving through his teammates with a bounce in his step and a big grin, as though he wasn't bothered at all with what just transpired on the field.  It wasn't celebratory, but you'd have thought they just scored on that drive.  Now, I don't want to see him hanging his head, and sulking off the field, but I think some genuine disappointment would be appropriate.  I don't think Shane's a bad kid, but that really bothered me.  Taken with the general flatness of the whole team, it makes me further question this staff.

Having lived in Birmingham, Alabama for over thirty years and having been forced to listen to his shit if I wanted to hear about "sports" until I got satellite radio.....It is 2014, can anyone name someone who cares what Paul Finebaum thinks outside of the trailer parks below the Mason Dixon line? (And I sadly agree with the sentiment in his tweet.)

I posted this on another post but it's buried deep in the post and I really was hoping for an educated answer.  Let me start by saying concussion or not, thousands of fans in the stands, myself included saw the head shot and the wobble which I believe warranted at least an assessment.

Now that we know the Shane was medically cleared to go back into the game

1) Does the NCAA also use the SCAT-2 testing for sideline assessment of concussions (used by the NFL)

2) I've Googled the test and it looks like it takes 15-20 minutes to complete

I've reviewed the sequence tape and these are my observations.  To be generous I calculated the time that Shane Morris actually stepped off of the field until he left the bench to take the snap for Gardner......elapsed time 1 minute and 33 seconds.   I've tried to link the SCAT-2 assesment tool......there is no way you complete this assessment in that amount of time

Forgive me if the link doesn't work

If any of you have expertise in the field of concussion assessment I was hoping you could share your knowledge.  Thanks

President Schlissel, welcome to Division 1, FBS. Your university is in the national news for all the wrong reasons; football, a profitable and important but still relatively small part of your enterprise, has caused embarassment and brought on the wrath of your very large and relatively wealthy alumni; you head one of the foremost medical research institutions on earth that somehow cannot ensure that a coach - a coach! - follows a clearly delineated and simple protocol for screening the health status of a student athlete who has been hurt. On national television.

Pres. Schlissel is clearly a very smart, very capable man. And his vision is in no way clouded by an unbridled passion for Michigan football (at least not yet). He'll figure this out, probably already has. We'll see what he's made of soon enough.
