Minority POV: anyone tiny bit concerned OSU lost?

Submitted by wolverine1987 on

So I switched off the OSU game when Samuel put them up 19-7, convinced the game was over at that point, started watching a movie, then promptly fell asleep. Woke up to the shockng news of the PSU win. Now, while I'm always happy for a MSU/OSU loss, in this instance I admit to a little concern/disappointment, for two feelingsball, (not rational reasons I admit) reasons:

1- An undefeated matchup of both us and OSU for the game would be a giant national story, with huge buildup and insane hype. Now, if things stay the same and we're unbeaten and they have one loss that's still a really big game, but a tiny bit less

2- Isn't a one loss OSU team that has already been upset actually a more dangerous team to play at home in the Game than an undefeated OSU team?

I can see the responses to this view already, and they are all legit, no argument. Am I alone in this?

Chances are very high that Michigan would have had to win the OSU game to get into the playoffs anyway. In the meantime, OSU had it's 20 game road win streak snapped last night, so we no longer have to hear about that and how close they were to breaking a record - yay!

Almost any team can bring it and pull

the upset under the right conditions.

Last night was a perfect example.

They will be tough but Harbaugh keeps

our heads screwed on right and we win

out and make the playoffs as #2.

We are both win out and in. The most significant thing for me is that against Wisconsin and PSU, they have had weaknesses exposed, and my belief that our staff can prepare our team to take advantage of those weaknesses.

A desperate and refocused OSU team coached by Urban Meyer is a very dangerous team, no doubt. But so is a determined Michigan team looking to avenge a bad loss to OSU from last season. Oh, and Jim Harbaugh. 'Nuff said.

No.

OSU can still make the playoffs by winning out and winning the BigTen title.  They are still playing for everything.

We pretty much have to win the OSU game no matter what.  It is unlikely that the playoff committee will select us at 11-1 -- especially if there are other conference champions with a loss.  We always needed to beat them - if anything, it makes us realize it can be done since a team we thrashed 49-10 just beat them.

From an X -O and player standpoint, Michigan has the advantage. How the players respond in the Shoe is the issue. However o$u has lost the battle of the trenches last two weeks, if not for JT they'd have 2 losses. You have to like our chances given our D line depth

OSU still has to play Northwestern and Nebraska.

Wisconsin and Penn State have shown everyone the way to beat OSU.

OSU could still loose again, if JT Barrett goes down, it will be over for them.

I'm not worried a bit about what Ohio look's like because of the loss to Penn State

No. An OSU team that can lose to Penn State is a team that can lose to us.

Let them bring us their best, most desperate effort. Harbaugh has taught this team how to get punched in the mouth and prevail.

We're going to get their best game regardless. Michigan will never catch OSU sleep-walking because of the rivalry and despite losing to PSU they're still one of the country's scarier football teams. The good part is they clearly seem to be having O-Line problems.

Both teams have great players and ultra competitive coaches.  In this type of rivaly game, the records do not count.  Both teams will give everything and the best team that day will likely win (unless B1G horrid offiicals screw one team over)

Thank you.  You are not alone in this.

Ohio State losing was delicious, but it could hurt us in this sense:

If we win out, it does not matter what anybody else does.  We are in as a 1 or 2 seed.

But the scenario of concern is if a one-loss non-Big Ten champion Michigan is competing with a one-loss non-ACC champion Louisville for the 4th spot.

Right now Louisville is everybody's darling because of Heisman-favorite Lamar Jackson and their close loss (probably should have been a win) to undefeated Clemson.

Losing closely to only an undefeated #2 ranked Ohio State would help bolster our argument to be in over Louisville.  Losing to a one-loss non-top 5 Ohio State really hurts our case.

Unless absolute conference chaos happens, the scenario of a one-loss non-Big Ten champion Michigan being able to get in is now completely dead.

It's all or nothing for us now.  Win the Big Ten and we are in.  If we don't it's over.  Period.

It was a pipe dream that a one-loss non-Big Ten champion could crash the CFP party.  OSU being undefeated, not just top 5, had to go into that elusive recipie, as well as some surprising losses in the other conferfences.  Was probably never going to happen regardless.

To get in, we have to win the Big Ten.  Even with a loss we can get in, but it has to be as the Big Ten champion.

This does not look like a year where any non-conference champ gets in.
