MIGGY! (because this time, one word suffices)

Cabrera legs out a double to begin his career final weekend!  Hit #3171, and he moves ahead of the great Henry Aaron to #13 in all-time doubles.

He’s top 20 all-time in hits, doubles and RBIs, and 25th in home runs. Plus a .307 batting average. Top 10 all around hitter of all time.

Just unbelievable - and crazy to think how many home runs he might have hit if he’d played the majority of his career in a different stadium with a shorter fence. I’d bet that playing his home games at Comerica cost him at least 50 homers over the course of his career.

It was a great privilege to watch Hammerin Hank at many games at Shea. That guy had one of the most effortless swings. His power, reporedly, was in his wrists and forearms. From the old timers I knew who played during his era, he was also a fairly laid back guy who just loved playing the game.

Best game of his I watched? He drove in 8 to defeat the Mutts, 8-7, at Shea. A slam, a second HR with one aboard, and a 2 RBI single.

Smooth, just smooth ...

I remember going to a Braves-Marlins game at Turner Field back in, I think, 2004.  We were walking to our seats behind the Marlin’s dugout and he was on deck.  I told my friend, “look at this guy”.  He was a mountain.  He just looked different. The ball sounded different when he hit it.  What a ball player.

I have said it many of times and always will.

Miggy is the greatest pure hitter I have ever seen. Period.

Triple Crown, in this day and age, is beyond incredible.

there are not enough synonyms for “phenomenal” to describe him. breaks my heart we couldn’t get that man a World Series ring. he earned it and deserves it more than most guys who have one

Truly one of the greatest player of the last 20-30 years.

Had he been healthy these past 9-10 seasons, we would be talking about one of the greatest of all time.

in his prime, nobody better.  unfortunately that prime was fairly short.  didn't help that he was battling booze, though it appears that is long in his rear view mirror.
