MIchigan Wrestling Tomorrow - Cash Only?
Sorry to post a board entry for this, but I am finding (and receiving from folks) conflicting information.
My son's wrestling team is headed to A2 for the Wrestling match tomorrow vs. OSU.
Anyone know if it is cash only for everything there? The athletic site itself even has little (or conflicting) information. (Thanks Warde! lol)
It is at Crisler if that helps.
TYIA!

From what I can tell, it's the opposite: entirely cashless.

I misspoke. I meant cashless. Gah!
Thank you!

Yeah I thought it was electronic only now...

Cryptocurrency only. Warde likes to operate in the shadows.

My experiences at Crisler this year have been entirely cashless.
On another note, does that wrestler also play football? Nose guard! I'm sure his pad level is very low.

That appears to be Alec Pantaleo - last wrestled for Michigan in 2018-19 at 157 lbs. Finished as a 3-time All-American.
He's had a pretty successful international career since then and has spent time as the top ranked wrestler in the world at 70kg

157 pounds? Amazing. He looks like he's at least two bills there. Maybe he's only 4'11".
January 26th, 2023 at 5:25 PM ^
He's on the shorter side - bio lists him as 5'6". Super explosive on his feet, his blast (or freight train) double-leg is a thing of beauty

For those who missed it and those who want to watch it again:
Michigan's Alec Pantaleo wins the 2018 Big Ten Championship at 157 pounds.

no cash allowed, which is irritating as I carry cash and prefer not to use my card for every little purchase

I'm with you, but I'm glad Michigan did this because I spend less money now at games. I just bring snacks in the car, eat them before the game and I'm good until I get home.

I've been to a few sketchy Wendy's drive-thrus late at night when the manager wasn't around and the dude working the drive-thru says it'll be $5 total for my meal (which should have been about $12.50) if I pay in cash.
So when I saw your headline, I thought that maybe the Michigan wrestling meet was that kind of deal.
January 26th, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
ha! Wish I had that deal at a Wendy's!
I'll take a Wendy's HOME RUN (4 patties) all cash for $10 instead of $20 please!

Cash only? In this economy??
January 26th, 2023 at 6:58 PM ^
I prefer the Irish method of just handing out free beers when their credit card machines at the Northwestern-Nebraska game stopped working.
January 26th, 2023 at 6:22 PM ^
In all seriousness I'd find that VERY surprising. I could see cashless (who uses cash anymore??). If you're buying them through a third party or something who's asking for cash.... uh don't.

what's weird about this post: why is it necessary?
is there a person who would attend an event and NOT have a credit card?
what am I missing?
<yes i'm being that guy>
January 26th, 2023 at 8:00 PM ^
Well, there could be cases where your card doesn’t work for whatever reason. Then I guess you’re screwed.
Or maybe you’re concerned about credit card debt and want to limit yourself to cash.
Or you want to teach your kid responsibility and send him/her to the concession stand with $10. You might not want to do that with a credit card.

OP said his son's wrestling team is attending the event. I know I was on a wrestling team when I was six years old. Pretty good chance that all youth wrestlers do not carry cards, phones, etc.

My son is going with his wrestling team as mentioned in the OP.
Parents are not going.
Hence the need to know whether I could just give him cash, or whether I have to get a stupid a$$ prepaid credit card that charges you fees just to use your money.
Does that help?

I have nothing useful to add regarding Crisler and payment preferences.
This reminded me of our trip to Hershey Park, in which we were reminded everywhere that the park was cashless.
Cashless except for the lemonade vendors walking around just outside the amusement park gates, they were cash only.
Which was a kick in the jiggly bits when my pregnant wife suddenly saw and subsequently got a graving for said lemonade...

Man, that's harsh. Killing her for wanting a tasty beverage?
(I know it was a typo...)

lol thats funny.
yes, very unfortunate typo there...good catch.

Here's a parenting tip regarding credit cards. Add your children to one of your credit cards. We did that with all our kids when the oldest started college.
When the youngest at age 23 went to buy her second car, a new one (I cosigned with her on her first one) it helped that she had a 10 year credit history.
January 27th, 2023 at 10:00 AM ^
So you add them and actually GIVE them a credit card that is tied to YOUR credit?
IDK man. My son is 14 and loses the $5 I give him for bowling constantly. Not sure he is responsible enough for a CC.
Like the idea though.

Certainly helps for a mortgage. Now as for teaching kids to buy a depreciating asset on credit...
