Michigan VS Uconn 2010 and at Uconn 2013 - official

Submitted by Quail2theVict0r on
It's official. Michigan and Uconn have agreed to a home and home series with Uconn coming to the big house for the home opener in 2010 and Michigan going to Connecticut for a 2013 match up. "UConn has reached an agreement with Michigan on a home-and-home series that will see the Huskies travel to Ann Arbor in 2010 and the Wolverines head to Rentschler Field in 2013, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations." I was really hoping we could get someone a little better - but I guess this is better than Duke. At least this should be a very winnable game. here is the rivals link for all of those with access: http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=970186

but your title was more descriptive so I went with yours. I'm somewhat happy with this game. I thought they were going to go after a tougher opponent, but this is perfectly fine with me. Hopefully this is only a small step towards the future of good BCS opponents.

That's just wrong. All mid to low level BCS teams are demanding home and homes. Texas is coming to Laramie to play Wyoming. I'm sure every single Texas fan is livid about it, but it's how games are scheduled out now. Live with it.

Don't underestimate UConn.. as a fan of Rutgers and therefore Big East follower, I have watched a fair amount of games involving them and they are a solid team. They always play tough and are good despite what many perceive as a lack of talent. They also manage to catch a few breaks, see "fair catch, wait no it wasn't, I was just waving at the ball and then ran it back for a TD because the other team didn't interpret my wave correctly" (paraphrase)

i dont think anyone is underestimating uconn. its not about whether or not uconn is a good team, its all about the prestige and reputation they carry (or lack thereof). the bottom line is uconn, in a football sense, lacks any kind of clout. besides, uconn is still a relatively new upstart team that made its first ever postseason bowl bid in 2004 in the motor city bowl. to say this team deserves a home and home is almost offensive.

Much like a poster above said, that is the nature of the business nowadays. Texas is going to play AT Wyoming. I am actually excited for us to play them. I think it'll be a fun game, that we can hopefully blow open. I'm thankful its a one of the power conferences, and anything is better than the MAC or 1-AA.

I dont mind playing them at home at all... I'd rather play them than Eastern Michigan or Delaware St..... Im just pissed as hell that we lose a home game in 2013 so we can go destroy UConn at their place....

The only thing more retarded than bashing UConn as being "worse than the MAC" is neging anyone who doesn't think this choice sucks.

Even Arkansas or Virginia would have been better. UCONN!? Why don't we schedule a game against West Virginia. Now there is a matchup I would love to see. Anyone else?

Mmhmm, UConn rushed for over 300 yards thanks to the only first-round draft pick in the history of UConn's football program - RB Donald Brown. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually looking forward to a UConn matchup, but to imply we are going to be playing the better program (between UConn and UVA) in 2010 and 2013 does not necessarily follow from the result of that 2008 matchup.

....but, the programs have been in the same number of bowl games the last five years and since 2006 the Caves are 19-19 while the Huskies are 21-17. I feel they are better coached than the Cavs and have a better coaching staff. Last year's game was no fluke. Given the 50 year or so head start the Cavs had playing at this level, its not a stretch to say Uconn is the better program. I can accept a downgrade to "trending better" than the Cavs if you dont want to be as certain as my previous statement. Uconn replaced their all time leader rusher after the 2006 season and discovered Brown. They have capable backs. What I like is a very experienced and good offensive line. A lot of those guys will be gone next year, so you have a point about making judgements about 2010. I think their rushing game will be good and effective this year, but rebuilding their O-Line heading in 2010 will make it a major question mark going into the Michigan game. Otherwise, they will have something in the ball park of 17-18 starters back next year. All their skill position players. A QB who, I believe, was rated as highly as Forcier was, and a defense with at least eight starters back. I do think uconn is the better program now and we'll see if the dynamics change in the next 12 months. I dont think they will. As for 2013. You are right. All bets are off. But as long as Edsall is in charge, I think Uconn will only getting better and elevate its status at this level. But, yeah, they could also find they've hit their D1 ceiling and crash and be Syracuse by then. I'm interested in seeing how they play year. They have what many say is the school's toughest schedule. They play the Irish. Maybe they beat ND and we spend next summer debating who the tougher OOC foe is on the 2010 slate.

is that our administration is so totally against home and home series. Yet we break down and do it with Uconn? If we are only going to do this home and home thing with 1 team why on earth would we choose Uconn? So we travel to a stadium that holds 40,000 people when we could have gone to an SEC school with 80,000+ and a load of national attention? This, to me, is no better than playing a strong Western Michigan team who just happens to be in a BCS league.

I think what's more important in what the poster above said is that it's rare for us to do a one and one; or more importantly play an away OOC game (aside from ND.) We finally do one, and it's with UConn? Would UConn really not come to Ann Arbor without a return game? If that's true, who's their negotiator? I'd love to learn a tip or two.

Like seriously. We definitely did, and that's exactly what we should do more often. I'm not upset by the UConn deal, if it really is even official. I'm from NY, so it may actually work out well for me. While we had a home and home with Oregon, Ohio State has played Texas and will play USC. I like when big name schools play each other OOC, but I suppose that's what bowl games are for.

I never said I was fine with Oregon state? and Yankee stadium is a completely different conversation. I would have preferred playing Virginia or Cal. Uconn been decent for what 1 or 2 years now? by 2013 they could be back to being the Northwestern of the Big East. At least with the other teams like Cal and Virginia there is history there. What you are failing to see is that we could have gotten an equivalent team to Uconn without the return trip. But somehow we negotiated with Uconn to secure a trip out there? that is a joke.

You say it like USC, Florida, and Texas were begging us to play a home and home with them. That wasn't the case, we got UConn, which is better than Miami not that Miami Ohio. You also seem to think that Bill Martin is of the mindset of "phew there's my one home and home, now I don't have to worry about that again for another 15 years." Just be happy we're playing a respectable opponent in the first game of the "New Big House."
