Michigan vs. Michigan State Open Thread
The game starts in about ten minutes and can be seen on Comcast Local. You can find radio and the link for online video (you have to pay for it)at UM's site. There is also the Daily live blog:

"Sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug. Tonight Michigan State is the bug."
I smell some home cooking. I guess thats why you want home ice for the tourney.
call the fucking dive......
Give him the Oscar!
Haha, the announcers are already trying to call a momentum shift........
Scoring a goal, having another big opportunity, and getting a powerplay is a legitimate momentum shift. Fortunately, it was short lived.
Treais (spelling?) gets hit for giving him the business with 4:30 left. Douchey MSU announcers see "momentum shifting."
Slashed Hagelin. 4 on 4 for nearly 2 minutes coming up.
BOOM FREE PIZZA'D
I could really, really use this.
They should probably run the score up.
awwwwwww.... no goal horn this time.
Palmisano tried to play the puck, fanned on it, and eventually Caporusso tipped it in.
Stick your momentum shift up your ass! 40 seconds left in 2nd and State color guy is still a dickhead.
EDIT: I type slow when I'm drunk, I guess. End of 2nd.
the 4 goal lead. twice as tough as the 2 goal lead.
/TNM
I love scoring in the first and last 20 seconds of the period. Don't think I have ever seen that before.
Haha...."Just when the Spartans were gaining momentum" I'll give them credit, the homerism is amusing to listen to.
When's the last time we ran Sparty out of their own building this bad? They kept their game at Munn close last year, IIRC.
I felt good about this weekend, but crap, these guys are sounding like they team we were expecting!
I really hope OSU can pull off the upset in Miami. An easier opponent with more hate value just down the road at The Joe. Couldn't ask for a better semifinal...
Sparty doesn't have "The Villain".
The circus is is town! Har Har!
This is like a figurative Tropping, which is much better than the literal kind.
It's nice to finally send 'em an eager counter-facebash. Our inability to do to so to MSU yet this year made things so much more miserable.
3 Rogue Dead Guy Ales and a 4-goal lead in the 3rd. I'm feeling a little better now.
...this place is half empty." Love this M invasion of Munn.
The crowd is pretty funny. I thought State scored for a second there, then realized it was all UofM fans cheering.
other than those three goals for michigan in the first, this is a tight one'
Yeeeah, except for that late basket by OSU today....
Interference call with 12:30 left. Announcers don't realize they are live for video even when it is a commercial for radio.
Color guy: "I just didn't see this coming"
I love it. Hopefully this gives him a little warning for tomorrow.
This fucker calling the game just quoted Hee-Haw! I'm as country as they come but even I think that is hilarious.
EDIT: They are also bitching about how hard it is to sell tickets to this game, yet I don't hear any shortage of Blue fans in attendance. Face it, State, nobody likes you!
"They've got every right to thump their chests"
"I'm so annoyed with this down here" (M fans chanting)
Announcer: "They're ahead, they have every right to thump their chest."
Can hear it clear as day. Sounds like our troops did their job today.
Tickets will be available at the door tomorrow according to MSU announcers. Hopefully we can have a repeat performance. Just regret no longer living in the area. Go BLUE!
I will be in Detroit this weekend, and might try to clear my schedule tomorrow night and get up to the game. Its a long shot, but if there are tickets available, I don't have to worry about that part.
But I commend your efforts. Hope you can make it up to enemy territory to watch the sweep in person. Go BLUE!
Is it possible that Hogan was the sole reason for the team struggling this year?
It seems to me the team is very conscious of their defensive assignments now that Hunwick is in there. He very rarely has to face a screen or a second shot (so far, and God willing, going forward). That may be a reflection of competition but it does seem like the players are more attentive to it.
The offense was maddeningly inconsistent. Noone ever misclassified Hogan as New Montoya, and--sure--he might not be so great, but this team struggles are multifactorial, to be sure.
Besides, it could be argued that Hunwick is yet to start against a good team--even now. While trying not to devalue the Spartan's #2 seed (they did get there; and, hell, we certainly couldn't), I don't think they are anywhere near the caliber of a typical CCHA #2 seed ... which, let's be honest with ourselves contemporary CCHA comrades: That's a pretty big put down.
That's true, but Hunwick hasn't allowed any of the backbreaking soft goals yet. You know, the type where it makes the rest of the team just want to give up? Hogan consistently gave up 1+ soft goals per game.
And that's where PurpleStuff's explanation fits well. On top of Hogan probably being less good than that for which he's being given credit (you know: the meh competition, etcetera), Michigan's defense is at its 2009-2010 zenith right now. That's helping a ton.
"There's no shot on Hunwick ... There's no shot on Hunwick ..." (Clicking heels together.)
...in the books. "This has to be embarrassing for the Spartan home crowd."
"Fans get your tickets for tomorrow night. There may be more available than tonight."

and that game was fucking awesome! I hope that whole arena turns to maize tomorrow night! HAIL TO THE VICTORS SPARTAN BITCHES
