Michigan vs. Miami (Ohio) Game 2 open thread

Submitted by jehu22 on

This one is huge kids. The game starts at 5:05 and is on FSN Detroit so get on it. The winner of this game goes into first place in the CCHA (although Michigan still has two games in hand on Miami).

If you can't get it on the tv:

If they score another goal they are going to force me to say something extremely mean and evil about being glad someone is dead. Don't make me do it, Miami.

They usually pull the crew from surrounding areas.  I doubt there are many CCHA refs living near Oxford so that's probably why we were so lucky.  And I think Piotrowski heads up the CCHA refs which gives an idea of the quality control.

take a little solace in the fact that even if miami wins 10-0 tonight, they will still lay a huge egg in the ncaa tourney and will bring great shame to the whole state of ohio. its a growing redhawk tradition

we are one point back from Notre Dame after this, and two points back from Miami (but we have two games in hand on them). Our schedule is manageable, with the only remaining road series is at Northern. We'll be ok.

we had two games in hand on ND going into the weekend. Since they didn't play, we are now even in terms of GP. But we are only one point behind.

So we are fine in terms of the CCHA, and we pry won't fall TOO far in terms of the pairwise either.

Going from somewhere around 5 to somewhere under 10 just fucking sucks in just a 2 week span. I feel like state bball right now.

Still another period, let's pull this fucking thing out like Mercyhurst

I love a college where I could start my own club that hadn't been done before because we are an irrelevant school with mostly dumb students. No one had thought of a multicultural newspaper before, LOL imagine that

Every statistic that they use to brag about themselves, both as a school and in hockey, Michigan is better than them by 2 or 3 times as much.

Miami is so proud of their two frozen fours, despite only being in one of the them thanks to a mentally challenged referee, and their three conference championships (0 in the tournament). It's all pretty impressive until you remember that they have been playing since the 80's...

I hate the names of the cities. In MI a lot of our cities have Native American names it seems, but we try to pronounce them correctly at least.

In Ohio, if your city name is Lima, you say LIE-ma. If it's Celina, it's se-LIE-na.

Annoys the fuck out of me. It's LEE-ma, you idiots. I'll let "Toledo" slide but jesus tits

I figured it out, guys!!!!!!!!  This whole regular season is just a ploy to get into the weakest regional possible!  Just you wait, we're gonna end up in the Bridgeport regional as a low 2/low3 seed, with Yale, Union/RPi and AHA snackattack and breeze through it on our way to our 10th NC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I think they're planning it out so that they can win the CCHA tournament and still end up exactly where they want to be in the PWR, which is why we have to lose so much now. Don't worry, they all know exactly what they're doing, I'm sure of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was there.  Losing to them does not make them a great team.  We were actually good that year, remember how we outshot them something like 42-13?  And yes, that pretty much tells the whole story. It's a one and done hockey tournament, things like that happen.  RIT made it to the Frozen Four last year and North Dakota lost in the first round (to RIT) but I'd still rather face RIT any day of the week.  And in case you couldn't tell, that  post above was mostly frustrated sarcasm, I'll add more exclamation points next time.

EDIT:  Based on (I'm assuming they're, forgive me if they're not) your bracket predictions on USCHO, I'm never making a joke like this again.  Boston College, North Dakota AND UNO (/any team Blais-coached team) in Saint Louis?! :'-(.  Then Green Bay is pretty decent (at least the first 3, I'll reserve judgement on WMU until 2 weeks from now when I've seen them) and both east regionals are match-ups of whiffleweights.  Which is why Michigan should be in one of those, they'll fit right in...

doubt anyone sees this, but I have realized recently that hockey is all about goalies. Especially in the NHL.

I don't mean goalies are the only important thing to being good. You need a great team to be great, that's pretty obvious. But a shitty team with a great goalie will still do really well sometimes, and he will stand on his head to keep your team in huge games. That ends up screwing us in a one-and-done tournament a lot of the time. That's why we outshoot teams by 4x and still lose.

Cases-in-point: the blue jackets, air force 2 years ago, and the biggest one of them all... FYS with ryan miller and jeff lerg. Not saying I discount their nat'l championship, but it doesn't take a lot of wondering to see why they suddenly suck less than 5 years later. I know they had good players like abdelkader, etc but I don't think they were the best team in the tourney.
