Michigan vs. Miami (Ohio) Game 2 open thread
This one is huge kids. The game starts at 5:05 and is on FSN Detroit so get on it. The winner of this game goes into first place in the CCHA (although Michigan still has two games in hand on Miami).
If you can't get it on the tv:

not so good.

I hate losing to Miami. hicks, the lot of them
February 6th, 2011 at 6:18 AM ^
Hey! I went to Miami, and that's only a half-truth.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
If they score another goal they are going to force me to say something extremely mean and evil about being glad someone is dead. Don't make me do it, Miami.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
indication, they are all raging homophobes. The way they phrased things made it sound like it was a great accomplishment for them to not be spitting on him when he took the ice.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
I know literally nothing about the story, I just know today is the anniversary and it seems like they are playing with a fire because of it.
But seriously... FYS beat this team, c'mon guys

Hell is a team of Burkes on the PP.
Dammit, the Wings better win tonight.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:19 PM ^
Wings got shut out 3-0 at home by the friggin Blue Jackets last night. I don't have high hopes for them either.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:22 PM ^
Well, they look to be the last hope to salvage something out of this hockey weekend (barring a miracle in the remainder of this game).
February 5th, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
Give it time, the Wings are always strongest in the playoffs.

Keith Sergott touches little kids.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:21 PM ^
Why do they have the same refs both nights? Shouldn't they switch in case one night involved a complete and utter fuck-over of a team on a ref's part?
February 5th, 2011 at 6:36 PM ^
They usually pull the crew from surrounding areas. I doubt there are many CCHA refs living near Oxford so that's probably why we were so lucky. And I think Piotrowski heads up the CCHA refs which gives an idea of the quality control.

everything
February 5th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
take a little solace in the fact that even if miami wins 10-0 tonight, they will still lay a huge egg in the ncaa tourney and will bring great shame to the whole state of ohio. its a growing redhawk tradition

So is this the end of the Saturday streak? This game is painful to watch and that 5 on 3 in the 2nd was the last nail.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
Even worse, it starts a different Saturday streak... we have now lost 2 saturdays in a row. FYS last week :(
February 5th, 2011 at 6:42 PM ^
I think the one game weekend made me think it was a Friday game. Although we're much better off than last year this is not looking so good.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:42 PM ^
Carter is a shitty name. I hate cutesy boots names like that. Any Carters that read this, no offense except that you have a shitty name.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:42 PM ^
we are one point back from Notre Dame after this, and two points back from Miami (but we have two games in hand on them). Our schedule is manageable, with the only remaining road series is at Northern. We'll be ok.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
just frustrating to get slapped around by miami again in the regular season. looking at those numbers, i think we still have an excellent shot to win the reg season title. certainly handling msu last weekend and at least splitting this weekend wouldve gone a loooong way toward that goal
February 5th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
Did ND lose their games this wknd? Or wait, they had a bye right
February 5th, 2011 at 6:48 PM ^
we had two games in hand on ND going into the weekend. Since they didn't play, we are now even in terms of GP. But we are only one point behind.
So we are fine in terms of the CCHA, and we pry won't fall TOO far in terms of the pairwise either.
February 5th, 2011 at 6:49 PM ^
Going from somewhere around 5 to somewhere under 10 just fucking sucks in just a 2 week span. I feel like state bball right now.
Still another period, let's pull this fucking thing out like Mercyhurst
February 5th, 2011 at 6:55 PM ^
At least get a fucking goal.
And maybe break "Mr. Irrelevant's" leg since he fucked us last year and last night
[edit: fucked us last night doesn't sound so good in hindsight]

I love a college where I could start my own club that hadn't been done before because we are an irrelevant school with mostly dumb students. No one had thought of a multicultural newspaper before, LOL imagine that

HERP DERP
February 5th, 2011 at 7:00 PM ^
Funny how such a good hockey team would have such weak skaters! Whenever they get touched they fly onto the ice! What a strange anomaly of a team!
February 5th, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
Offsides, lol are you sure about that one? Well, we would have had a breakaway, so we must have been doing something wrong
February 5th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
Every statistic that they use to brag about themselves, both as a school and in hockey, Michigan is better than them by 2 or 3 times as much.
February 5th, 2011 at 7:20 PM ^
LOL we lost in the NCG when we were winning by 2 with a minute left! WE RULE!
holy shit that should be a goal or a penalty.
February 5th, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
Miami is so proud of their two frozen fours, despite only being in one of the them thanks to a mentally challenged referee, and their three conference championships (0 in the tournament). It's all pretty impressive until you remember that they have been playing since the 80's...
February 5th, 2011 at 7:25 PM ^
I hate the names of the cities. In MI a lot of our cities have Native American names it seems, but we try to pronounce them correctly at least.
In Ohio, if your city name is Lima, you say LIE-ma. If it's Celina, it's se-LIE-na.
Annoys the fuck out of me. It's LEE-ma, you idiots. I'll let "Toledo" slide but jesus tits
February 5th, 2011 at 10:57 PM ^
Think we pronounce "Detroit," "Cadillac" and "Bois Blanc" anywhere near the way the French voyageurs did? Saginaw residents' pronunciation of "Buena Vista" is . . . interesting, too. Heck, we don't even pronounce "Birmingham" the way the British do.

Michigan has now gone 12 power plays without scoring, and is 1 of 17 since the Ferris State series.
February 5th, 2011 at 7:27 PM ^
not so fun. :(
February 5th, 2011 at 11:59 PM ^
I figured it out, guys!!!!!!!! This whole regular season is just a ploy to get into the weakest regional possible! Just you wait, we're gonna end up in the Bridgeport regional as a low 2/low3 seed, with Yale, Union/RPi and AHA snackattack and breeze through it on our way to our 10th NC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think they're planning it out so that they can win the CCHA tournament and still end up exactly where they want to be in the PWR, which is why we have to lose so much now. Don't worry, they all know exactly what they're doing, I'm sure of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you remember Air Force two years ago?
February 6th, 2011 at 2:12 AM ^
I was there. Losing to them does not make them a great team. We were actually good that year, remember how we outshot them something like 42-13? And yes, that pretty much tells the whole story. It's a one and done hockey tournament, things like that happen. RIT made it to the Frozen Four last year and North Dakota lost in the first round (to RIT) but I'd still rather face RIT any day of the week. And in case you couldn't tell, that post above was mostly frustrated sarcasm, I'll add more exclamation points next time.
EDIT: Based on (I'm assuming they're, forgive me if they're not) your bracket predictions on USCHO, I'm never making a joke like this again. Boston College, North Dakota AND UNO (/any team Blais-coached team) in Saint Louis?! :'-(. Then Green Bay is pretty decent (at least the first 3, I'll reserve judgement on WMU until 2 weeks from now when I've seen them) and both east regionals are match-ups of whiffleweights. Which is why Michigan should be in one of those, they'll fit right in...
February 9th, 2011 at 4:27 PM ^
doubt anyone sees this, but I have realized recently that hockey is all about goalies. Especially in the NHL.
I don't mean goalies are the only important thing to being good. You need a great team to be great, that's pretty obvious. But a shitty team with a great goalie will still do really well sometimes, and he will stand on his head to keep your team in huge games. That ends up screwing us in a one-and-done tournament a lot of the time. That's why we outshoot teams by 4x and still lose.
Cases-in-point: the blue jackets, air force 2 years ago, and the biggest one of them all... FYS with ryan miller and jeff lerg. Not saying I discount their nat'l championship, but it doesn't take a lot of wondering to see why they suddenly suck less than 5 years later. I know they had good players like abdelkader, etc but I don't think they were the best team in the tourney.
