Michigan Stadium getting closer to becoming largest worldwide

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Been doing a little searching recently for some of my SuperGuide work and found something interesting.

So, prior to a couple years ago, Michigan Stadium was the 3rd largest stadium in the world behind May Day Stadium in North Korea (150,000) and Salt Lake Stadium (120,000) in India.

A year ago, the stadium in India was made smaller and is now all the way down to only 68,000 in seats, pushing The Big House up to 2nd in the world behind the Cult of Personality Dome.

Now, after wandering over to the largest stadiums by capacity list, I noticed something interesting.

North Korea's stadium went from 150,000 in capacity to 114,000 last month. Why? How?

Because they were lying about their capacity. Shocker. The seats were counted and it stopped at 114,000.

So with a South endzone upper deck expansion that's likely (ed) on the horizon in the 2020s, Michigan Stadium may become the largest stadium in the world.

I'm sober. I also feel that Tyler Isaac is good at weaving in between holes. Smith is end of last year vs Florida Smith and Speight isn't quite end of year rudock yet but t g e linebackers are a present surpris re!

So apparently there is some half truth to the north korea stadium lies. It was renovated in 2014 as the upper deck was changed to all-seater, so the 150k may have been close to accurate until then and not recounted or communicated to the west yet. Also the 114k that WD lists is just an estimate from photos and not an actual physical count: "We had to base it on estimates in some areas, lacked close-ups on parts of the stadiums and rooms overlooking the field. That’s why we’re rounding it up to the closest thousand and give the count a significant margin of error: 2,000-5,000 seats." "Our count, including the VIP and media areas, stopped below 114,000 seats" http://stadiumdb.com/news/2016/08/north_korea_kims_shrinking_pride So Michigan Stadium may already be the biggest non racetrack in the world. Unlikely though. And there's more to dash WD's hopeful predictions: "Just two months ago the University of Texas revealed a masterplan that includes building a new south end to their Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. So far there’s no information on how many seats would be gained, but based on previous reports and suggestions (not even mentioning the promising model, as seen below) it could be around 120,000-125,000" So unless the upper deck does happen (admittedly possible for dick measuring reasons rather than economic), this thread should be called "Texas Memorial Stadium getting closer to becoming largest worldwide" If it does happen it will not be club seats or simply an expansion then but an upper deck. Only realistic way to beat out Texas I know we assume those commies lie like crazy, but let's not stoop to their levels of misinformation

The link talks about the Texas Longhorns expanding their stadium to 120,000+

I sure hope not.

I can stand being second to some lying North Koreans who nobody believes anyway.  But second place to another CFB team?

This shall not stand!
