Also, Darius Slade has not signed with MSU today.  Will visit OSU next weekend.  Guess that's a lose / lose for us anyway.

A big FU to James Franklin and his negative recruiting aka spreading rumors to Peppers that Michigan may face sanctions and Hoke may be fired for the Gibbons situation. I hope Hoke remembers this when we play them in the fall.

From one of the premium message boards.

The guy coached gang rapists (Chris Boyd case) at Vanderbilt and now coaches at the school infamous for shielding and enabling a child rapist. I understand negative recruiting happens but in this situation it really makes you wonder.

The Franklin negative recruiting is news to me, but here's how I imagine it would go down:

JF:  Jabrill, you have to understand that Coach Hoke had a player accused of sexual misconduct.

JP:  Yeah - I read about that.  Sounds like a bad situation for all involved, especially the girl.  I heard the AAPD was informed right away, no charges were brought against the kicker.

JF:  Right, but you're missing the point.  Coach Hoke, apparently on the advice of counsel, said the player would miss their bowl game for "family reasons" after a follow-up investigation resulted in that player's expulsion from Michigan.

JP:  Wow.  I mean the alleged rape, that's deadly-serious stuff.  But you're saying Coach Hoke is on the hot seat because he followed internal counsel's directions on handling the situation?

JF:  I know, right?  I mean what kind of place are they running up there in Ann Arbor?

JP:  Well, if I read it correctly, one where even though the prosecutor declined to bring charges the school followed up and expelled a player based on a lower burden of proof and lower evidentiary standards.  I mean, it's an awful situation and it took too long to resolve, but it's also one that was turned over to law enforcement right away.  So it sounds like they are running a school that knows that expelling Gibbons will result in negative publicity and hurt the school's image, but did it anyway because it was the right thing to do.

JF:    All I'm saying is that's not how we do things here at PSU.

<Crickets sound in the distance, even though it's winter.  A lone coyote howls.  A tumbleweed goes through Franklin's office.>

JP:  OK, where's Ashton Kutcher?

JF:  What?

JP:  I'm being punked, right?

I mean holy tap-dancing Jebus.  The Gibbons situation is a shitshow, and after reading the police reports I tend to believe the victim (I also understand why the case wasn't prosecuted, between the victim's initial reluctance and other factors at play).  Like I said, a shitshow.

But PSU criticising how UofM handled the situation?  PSU?!?  That's some wild, wacky stuff right there.

At one time I had hopes that Penn State would be another classy team in the B1G to add to Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nebraska.  Oh, how my opinion has changed.

I am proud to have a coach like Hoke.  Win or lose, I'd be embarassed to have a coach like Franklin.

One recruit I don't hear talked about enough is Ian Bunting. He reminds me of another Devin Funchess TE/but really receiver that looks like he will tear up an opposing defense. Really looking forward to watching him on the field

Nice to see Jabrill in there, not that we had a doubt!!

What's the over/under for this question today:

  • Where is (early enrollee) LOI?  Did he go elsewhere?

See you on the afternoon POSbang!

here's the Rivals top 15 for 2004:

  1. Adrian Peterson (#7 pick)
  2. Ted Ginn, Jr. (#9 pick)
  3. Early Doucet (3rd round)
  4. Rhett Bomar (5th round)
  5. Keith Rivers (#9 pick)
  6. Willie Williams
  7. Brandon Miler
  8. Derrick Harvey (#8 pick)
  9. Jeff Schweiger, Jr.
  10. Xavier Lee
  11. DeMario Pressley (5th round)
  12. Anthony Morelli
  13. Chad Henne (2nd round)
  14. Kyle Williams
  15. Chris Patterson

Four first rounders, four drafted outside the first round, seven undrafted.

Maybe that was an unusual year.

Now c'mon--keeping the flames of Malik Hope alive means more subscriptions and hits to your bloggies! Those two know how to pimp so middle aged waste-oids will keep reading and hoping!

Unhappy body language by McDowell.  Either he was coerced into picking Michigan against his will or he picked MSU and now he has to deal with Momma.

Can't imagine the pressure he is under. Both your parents are hardcore for you going to UM. You grow up a fan of UM then all your visits never feel right even with the guy next to you on your HS line going to UM. You visit UM over and over and it never feels right. Then UM has an embarrassingly terrible season. MSU starts out as a dumpster fire then limps into the B1G season and looks ugly but one hell of a defense. UM keeps rolling out a bending defense and MSU smashes you in the mouth. Then MSU wins the B1G and the RoseBowl. Meanwhile your parents are worried about your future and pushing you to UM, you want to listen to them but your heart says something else.. You see the smash mouth defense and you want to be a part of that and maybe the main part someday.

This is a tough day for him. Hopefully he makes the right decision and is happy with his choice. Good luck kid.
