Michigan re-offers 2016 DT Rashan Gary from Paramus Catholic
There are many reasons this is interesting.
He's 6'4" 285 lb consensus 5 star.
He's the one of the (if not the) top player in the country in 2016.
He has family in Michigan.
He goes to Paramus Catholic which gave us Jabrill Peppers as well as Juwan Bushell-Beatty.
The coach for Jabrill and Juwan recently became a college coach and was replaced by Blake Costanzo.
Blake's picture in his playing days.
His coach was Jim Harbaugh.
I like our chances.

One of the recruiting analysts (I forgot who) mentioned that he was re-offered today by the new staff.

I was on a flight with Greg Jackson yesterday from Detroit to Newark which landed in the afternoon. I'm guessing he's the new contact for him.

ago. I thought it could be huge for getting players here given the Jabrill factor also. I hadn't had time to post it. This was the perfect opportunity.
Thank you.

Just wanted to make sure you meant Paramus Catholic. Thats where Peppers and Bushell-Beatty went (and apparently this kid as well). Big difference between Paramus HS and PC.

this "oh boy" gif is getting lots of run today, but I like it.

I would very much like it if he committed to UM.

Perhaps one of my favorite SNL skits, featuring the memorable "schwetty balls."

Guys, I'd appreciate it if we could keep our enthusiasm under control. This is getting out of hand.

This is a "reoffer". He was previously offered by Hoke (Manning).
In addition, his former HC at PC is going to be an assistant coach at Rutgers.

Peppers old coach resigned and got a recruiting position at Rutgers. He might have made some promises on some players following him.

Rivals guy said expect Michigan to hire someone for a full-time recruiting position. Sounds like Michigan is going to do what msu did with Curtis Blackwell.
It sounds like Roy Manning was offered that job, but turned it down to be a position coach at WSU.

I belive that means that he sets up trips and helps to identify guys to recruit by viewing film. This is a recruiter who actually goes and sees the kids. If I understand properly.

I don't think that is it.
There are only a certain amount of coaches that can go out to recruit.
I should have also said that it is an administrative position.
January 21st, 2015 at 4:24 PM ^
It is message board rumors at this point, but it sounds like Michigan wants to bring someone in just for recruiting/scouting.
It sounds like it will be a separate full time position.

The picture didn't make it, but via the Wikipedia I could see that he played for HARBAUGH/49ers in 2011 & 2014.
Bring 'em on...

EDIT: FAIL. Looks like I need a lesson in embedding youtube vids :P
January 21st, 2015 at 3:41 PM ^
Good heavens, I'm not going to embed that, but just for future reference, grab the embed code from Youtube (make sure the horizontal is sized to no more than like 450px, then in your comment dialogue box here, switch to plain text editor and paste the code. Switch back rich text before saving if there's anything else you have left to say.

Don't like our chances of landing Rashan. Apparently everyone who played for Harbaugh at San Francisco disliked him.

it's sad that I mildly panicked when I read your first sentence. Then I got to the /s. Thank goodness.
January 21st, 2015 at 2:59 PM ^
I donno if you are being sarcastic or not, nor am I attacking....But, I still have yet to see one source from saying his players dispised him. Everything Ive read is MGMT and HArbaugh did not get along, not the players. In fact I have read many things stating the very opposite...
January 21st, 2015 at 3:27 PM ^
The poster helpfully informed you that he was, indeed, being sarcastic via the /s at the bottom of the post.

Yeah,

dudes a beast. would be a huge addition if he ends up at michigan. legit top DL are rare and always necessary and michigan has not had any (aside from will campbell if he counts) at least a decade

(Since you're clearly basing your post on recruiting rankings)

Rashan Gary would be a huge get for Michigan! Not only as a talented player (which... clearly), but continuing to pull top talent out of Paramus and - on an even greater scale - mid-Atlantic areas. Pipeline building and continuity is a huge precursor to future success as long as you have a coach that can develop talent into execution (YAY we do have that this time!).
January 21st, 2015 at 3:17 PM ^
I like having a pipeline school in Jersey...
Crystal ballz have him to Bama (shocking). Let's shock the world.
January 21st, 2015 at 3:17 PM ^
Gary is the type of elite defensive player Michigan needs to compete with Ohio and for the NC. That and of course, great coaching. I'm hoping too that the new staff plus Mattison can get Pipkins and Mone to a higher level of output this season.
January 21st, 2015 at 3:41 PM ^
All it will take from Harbaugh and Co. is a few wins and the momentum will start rolling. Crystal Ball will say UofM.
