Michigan-notre dame 2014 will be a night game

Looks like the final game in the series against the fig thing chickens will be a night game.

This is a must win game for historical purposes.

The 2014 Irish home game against Michigan will be a night game and will be televised in prime time by NBC.

On a side note, as that article says, the Irish won't play a Big Ten opponent in 2015. There was an AP article from a few weeks ago noting how long it's been since that happened:

Notre Dame won't play any Big Ten opponents in 2015, marking the first time since 1914 the Irish won't play a school now a member of that conference.

I'm surprised we let ND get away with making the last game in their home stadium. Should've cancelled it and scheduled Indiana State. Official statement should say something like "Looking to play elite team from Indiana, not cowards"

They have their own tv deal with NBC.  I have to say; I sort of envy that.  Looking at their schedule, they only play six home games a year.  Dave Brandon would hate that thought.  Well, maybe not hate it enough to turn down a shot at an August JerryBowl in Texas.

This raises an interesting question for folks like us.  Is that a model to which we should aspire?  Six home games every year?  It wouldn't bother me.  Not if we did it like Notre Dame does, with a bunch of high-profile home-and-home series.  I'd much prefer to purchase tickets to six quality home games, than seven games with the likes of Eastern Michigan, Delaware State or Appalachian State.  (With regard to the latter, I have already decided to forgive Brandon for the App St. rematch.  We all know what he is selling with that one; it's the Revenge Bowl.  There will be a Mayan ritual-style human sacrifice of a virgin from north-west North Carolina at halftime.  Lloyd Carr will stand on a small pyramid at midfield and consume her still-beating heart as it is removed from her chest.  I expect that there will be an explicit discussion between Brandon and Hoke wherein Brandon will say that he'd like to see Michigan score 70 points, and to get there he will encourage Hoke to go for a 2-point conversion after every touchdown.  I will be buying a ticket for that.)

But really is a seven-game home schedule something that any of us truly crave?  I might like it.  And Notre Dame won't have a seven-game home schedule as far as I can see into their future schedules...

Phork?  How many ND home games do you attend?  How many away games?

with the B1G changes we'll have 5 home conferences games every other year.  So adding 2 of the the 3 OOC games is perfectly reasonable.  As a season ticket holder, I prefer 7 home games ... but I am concerned that Brandon is taking away the home and home series with the quality opponents in favor of the "huge" neutral site games.  This is happening while ohio, MSU and Penn State have all gone out and gotten home and home series with some "named" schools.

There's nothing like a really BIG game at home .... which we won't see in person at Michigan Stadium until 2015 !

Go Blue!

I don't go as often as I used to before kids, but I generally try to make the big games.  UM, Stanford, USC.  I usually make it to the Big House for that game and EL if I am feeling particualrly brave.

I intend on increasing that in the future however.

I do like our schedule a lot. And the next 3 years its pretty awesome. My first suggestion to you guys is to dump the directional schools.  Pick up the BYUs and other such and increase value for your fans.

Might be in the contract but Notre dame cancelled so why did michigan let it end in south bend? When ND cancelled they should've said "fine well just end after this coming game" and been done with it this year. No way Michigan shouldve allowed it to end at south bend

There was a clause in the contract requiring three games' notice before cancellation.  They cancelled on literally the day of the 2012 game, the latest they could do without penalty.  If we do it now, we have to pay them something like $500,000.  It was a pretty crass move on ND's part, but effective at getting them one extra home game in the series.

I still fondly remember when Carr went down to SB and said lets get "physical" with Weiss's ND- UM romped in that game 20+ point win I think. God how I love hard hitting teams.
