Good to be in the top 5 but right now he is 100% CB to North Carolina.  Is there a feeling we have a real shot?  He would be a huge get.

In that Weingarten tweet, he said Springer has only taken an official visit to Tennessee so far, so hopefully if we're in his top 5 we'll get a visit? Even if we don't, I think it says a lot that Howard is already having a visible impact on recruiting

There are only 3 CBs assigned...do not know how old they are. He is from NC. The last time he named his top 11 Michigan was not included. So...this would indicate more recent interest-since Howard came on.

Jaden is listed as a combo guard. His film is interesting. He is not a high-flying show-boat kid. At 6'4" he is a very good athlete-dunks easily and with authority...pretty good handle...he loves to penetrate, is strong and takes contact well and finishes effectively. He does not looks to shoot the three. He passes well but prefers to finish himself. This is the kind of kid I would look to play the point-he would demand off-ball help inside, create mismatches and open up holes for the snipers. He is a solid defender-would challenge opposing points well.

So, Matt D, have you seen him live?

I have, most recently at Under Armour Session I in Chicago. Springer is a physically developed combo-guard with some explosiveness as a finisher. Solid handle and good midrange jumper off the bounce, but not a reliable/steady shooter from distance. At his best from 18 feet and in where he can use his combination of size/strength/body control/verticality to simply out-athlete defenders of similar size or smaller. I do have concerns about his lack of acceleration and three-point shooting, as he can be ball dominant. I'm not as high on Springer as most other pundits, but I do believe he's a Day 1 producer at the college level.

Thanks Matt. After I looked at his tape then saw his rating it raised my "What am I missing" eyebrows. However, this game is about outliers and mismatches too and I can see a big, even huge, advantage of having a kid like this at point-and the predicament he could present for the opposition. Your point doesn't have to be a prolific deep threat if he can overpower your prototypical point and open the floor up by dominating from mid range in. If I were the coach recruiting him I would want to know how coachable he is and if that ball dominance can be appropriately tempered. But running mates of Springer and Burnett  at the guards would have me smiling very widely at the possibilities.

Post-Franz recruiting: I hope people go easy on Juwan if he misses on a few highly rated recruits. Remember that he'll be going head-to-head with a bunch of *big* cheaters. (I'm acknowledging that there are degrees of cheating.) Beilein probably encountered them less often.

He should be able to recruit better than Beilein but there is a difference between that and pulling in 2-3 Five-stars per class.  Without someone “on the bag”, I doubt we will have a great success rate when in final fives with the likes of UNC, Duke, KY, AZ and Kansas.

Ask MSU fans how it feels to be the “first loser” for these big time kids and their entourages.

He is going to miss more than he lands but the key is to make sure he lands some elite talent to go along with some top 150 talent. Surely nobody thinks we are going to start recruiting like Duke and UK and land 5-7 five stars every year. I'm really curious to see how 2020 goes, so far hes gotten 2 of 3 Beilein commits to stay and landed a Beilein recruit in Wagner who's brother played here. It's ok to fish in the 5 star pond but hes going to have to fish in the 30-150 pond too. I'm still in wait and see mode at this point

Agree completely.  Michigan fans need to temper their expectations with Howard's recruiting, at least to start.  One huge fact is he has no track record as a U-M coach yet.  Recruits have nothing to see on the court that tells them what Michigan's basketball system will look like.  They just have what Howard can describe to them.  Still, he has a lot to sell that is positive.  There is a lot of talent in that top 150 group and as long as Michigan can continue to develop guys, we'll do fine.

Would be awesome, but you say a 5star has Michigan in his top 5 and I just think he's going for dark horse or intellectual in there somewhere, and there's probably a top 2-3 and Michigan's not in the real mix.

I noticed this as well. 247 has Tennessee, Maryland, N.C. State and UNC as "Warm" and a bunch of other schools below... but no Michigan even on the page.

Is it as simple as Michigan formally offered him two days ago and they haven't updated his list yet?

Doesn't give me a good feel about Michigan's chances to, you know, actually land Springer.

Fact is I'd expect most of the top players to strongly consider Juwan.   I would. He's the man, and ours is a great program. Good things are coming.

This is why we have hope with Howard.  Guys like this will have interest where they never would have with JB.  A stud PG is a must for 2020 with Simpson leaving and nobody on the roster looking like they can become an all B1G player.

Pay the man. Preferably on the books. I'm tired of M recruiting at a disadvantage. Just start throwing the money around like everyone else.

This is so anti Michigan. One major reason people hate Michigan is because we brag about doing things the right way while still being very successful in the process. The "everyone else cheats so we need to as well" mind set needs to disappear immediately. Beilein just took us to 2 national championship games while being arguably the cleanest coach in the entire country. And our current coach is tied to our biggest scandal in college bball history...and you want him to cheat? That would end in constant espn coverage and huge embarrassment to our university.

If you want to cheer for cheaters maybe you should find a new fan base? Because that is not what being a Michigan man is about.

It’s anti American to demand someone can’t get paid what the market offers. Let’s be the leaders and best in ushering in above board cash payment to players. This is exactly what Uofm is about.

I'll believe we'll get more than 1 random 5* every 5+ years when we actually do or it's made known that we've embraced the bag. Until then all the talk about 5*s having 'interest' in us means nothing to me.

The other 4 schools are not afraid to throw around some bags. Hopefully Howard is stepping up to the plate and bringing Michigan to compete for the top recruits at all costs. And we know the cost.

Another couple edges we might have in recruiting, 1) we have one of the few black head coaches.  That does appeal to some players and their families.  2) a coach that has been star high school/college/nba player.

Someone on UMHoops posted that he is the cousin of NBA player DeAndre' Bembry. Bembry was a 1st round pick out of St. Joes in 2016, so it looks like Phil Martelli may be the connection here.
