Harbor has a lot of Michigan connections in his life, but I guess we can never doubt USC being the new shiny object for recruits

For what its worth, I don't think Harbor is cutting his list down to just 2 teams. From his documentary, it sounds like USC and Michigan are just his leaders

The part where he talks about it starts at 41:30

I don’t ever remember reading a scouting report like 247’s Brian Dohns before.  How is this not the consensus #1 overall recruit for 2023?

Do you think the staff ever tries this pitch when we’re in a recruit’s top-2:

”Hey, if you come here and it doesn’t work out, you can always transfer there.  But if you go there and it doesn’t work out, you probably can’t get in here.  So, this is your one chance with us.”

To be fair, as the system by which credits may be converted at Michigan is admittedly quite byzantine and involves variables like the relative humidity reported at KARB on the day of the application and the order of finish of teams in the NL Central in the season previous to the current one, it's probably easier to just leave that as a clause buried in the paperwork.

This guy is UM all the way. I'm an expert at these things, meaning I know what I want to hear and then refuse any other outcome.

Also, when he plays, he will be the most freakish athlete we've seen in the Big House since forever. The kid is just unbelievable. His body is insane. His speed is Olympic. Word is he's a great kid and a very hard worker.

It'll be fun to see how the coaches choose to use him. I'd say line him up as a 6"6' - 240lb - 4.3/40 DE/OLB/CB/Safety/KR/PR/TE/Slot/FB/WR combo type of player

Funny how a team that lost its head coach to the SEC (ND) and a team that fired its head coach (OMG instability!) after a long bout of mediocrity, are the hot new destinations supposedly eating Michigan's lunch on recruiting the season after Michigan won the B1G and appeared in the playoffs. (Remind me again, how many times has USC made the 4-team playoff?)

Not really sure I get the humor regarding USC. They’ve been the biggest sleeping giant in all of college football and they just hired one of the best, young coaches in the game who has proven success with QBs and offenses. Add in that they play in a subpar conference and there’s plenty of reason to believe they could soon be in the playoff picture.

USC’s “A” game or ceiling as a program might very well be the highest in the country.

100% Agree. I don't think it's a coincidence that Bama has had a massive run and Clemson(!) has been "elite" and Oklahoma has been on a hot streak while USC was getting in its own way and constantly underperforming with its in-state recruiting. My guess is that with Riley at the helm USC will stop shitting its pants and actually recruit a lot of its homegrown talent. I fully expect they'll be in the playoffs soon and with some regularity. Who in the PAC 12 would stop them... Utah (LOL)?

Riley is a smart guy. He didn't leave a very good situation in an easy conference for just money. He's now got an even better situation in a possibly weaker conference.

The best analogy about this I've seen (yes, there's math) is:

"Hiring young, recruiting-focused coach with buzz"  > "Retaining coach who flirted with leaving for NFL strongly in off-season only to return"

It sucks when factoring in Michigan's 2021 success, but it is what it is. Negative recruiting against Michigan is so simple right now.

USC has 26 national championships in track and field—by far the most of any school—but the most recent one was in 1976. Southern schools have dominated since the late 1970s.

The last BIG school to win the NC in track was Minnesota in 1948.

If running track in college is important to Harbor, Michigan is at a sizable recruiting disadvantage.
