He is:

Rivals 3 star

Scout 4 star and #19 quarterback

247 4 star and #9 dual purpose quarterback and #240 overall

247 composite 4 star and #10 dual purpose quarterback and #249 overall

247 has him leaning towards Florida and Florida State.

I appreciate the coaches' confidence, but it seems like we're only going after (or primarily going after) QBs we don't have a shot with.  This kids clearly legit, in fact based on his offer list his rankings are probably way low (offers from Florida, FSU, Miami, Ohio St, Auburn, Oregon, Clemson, Tennessee and others).

I just hope the guys we have a good shot at don't head elsewhere while we chase pipe dreams.

Have we offered Waller?  Either way - probably.  Certainly less so than Francois, if for no other reason than who our competition is.  Going after West Coast QBs will be a lot easier now that USC and UCLA already have their guys, and they're the top 2 QBs in the country.

Michigan is playing catchup with everyone on QBs due to the OC change.  Its pretty late (for QBs anyways) to be handing out offers.  Half of the top 14 or 15 QBs are already committed, and most of the rest have strong favorites.  So Michigan will be playing from behind on almost every QB they offer this cycle.

FSU is on him but likes a couple kids more. Michigan can definitely be a player on this race if they want to. I think they should want to be.

Considering Nuss visited him to watch him throw and offered him, it's probably safe to assume they want to be.  I'm skeptical on how good our chances are if FSU and Florida really want him, but we'll see.  I agree we have a shot, but I think it's an outside shot.

Poor Malzone, I mean, not that I think he's the best prospect out there, but with so many swings and misses and his shown interest attending camps and visiting often I hope he doesn't feel disrespected.

if the coaches believe other kids have more potential and better suited than this malzone to compete to run um's O in several yrs, then they need to pursue those options which they seem to be doing.  QB is the most important position in football, by far, and the correlation bw teams success and great QBs cannot be understated...dominant QBs, particularly dual threats and those in open offenses, can turn mediocre teams into decent and good teams into championshp teams ala scam newton, manziel, etc, even denard robinson who while not perfect still won at least half dozen games for um despite poor supporting cast.  some are infatuated with just signing up this malzone kid simply bc hes local, decent talent and has passion for um.  screw the eval process and the whole recruiting game of trying to secure the most elite prospect, just offer the kid who loves um?  that kid might be great and maybe hed lead um to titles but obviously the coaches see him as backup option if they cannot bring in those they envision as elite future wolverines.  it should not shock anyone that the top teams in dec / jan almost always bring in highly rated classes or classes stocked with prospects rated in top 3-5 on those teams respective boards.  if hes worthy of an offer in the coaches eyes, hell get one.  otherwise hopefully hell be successful elsewhere. but i never want these coaches to "settle" when they can pursue prospects they consider elite - its a recipe for disaster especially at the games most vital position
