Michigan guys in McShay's latest mock

McShay's latest mock has a couple UM guys in round 1..  Taco is really trending up, but I'm stunned Jourdan Lewis fell out:

11. New Orleans Saints, 7-9

Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan

Charlton really came on strong in the second half of the season, posting 10 sacks in his final 10 games. He showed a lot of improvement with his hands and overall technique in 2016. The Saints need a pass-rusher opposite Cameron Jordan, and Charlton has the size, speed and power to be a difference-maker off the edge.

17. Washington Redskins, 8-7-1

Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan

Peppers is a polarizing prospect in scouting circles. He needs to be protected from deep zone coverage, and he did not have much ball production at Michigan, with just one career interception. But he is a special athlete with elite speed and a unique knack for keeping blockers off his pads. His electrifying return ability will also be an asset in the NFL.

(And notable):

32. New England Patriots, 14-2

Haason Reddick, LB, Temple

Look for the Patriots to add a tight end early, perhaps Michigan's Jake Butt or Ole Miss' Evan Engram on Day 2. But given how the board fell, they could get better value by targeting Reddick here. He opened eyes at the Senior Bowl, proving he can thrive as an off-the-line LB. Reddick has a little Tedy Bruschi in him.

I didn't see the speed or power McShay is talking about ..Most of his sacks were because the secondary gave the D line lots of time...

It's not a matter of opinion.  If you're watching the right player, you see a dude bursting by the tackle and instantly crushing the QB or you see him crushing the tackle backwards into the pocket, or blowing through his shoulder.  But yeah I guess you're a better evaluator than McShay or NFL scouts.  Wish I could neg you more.

Link They did a 3 round post.

Of note

Peppers - 20 to Denver

Taco - 30 to Dallas

Lewis - 61 to GB

Wormley - 85 Detroit!!!!!!!

No Jake Butt, which is a bummer, but means he can cash in that insurance policy and get on a more competitive team maybe later in the draft, which wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

someone had Peppers drop to 32...and the Patriots. Yes please.

Love to see Wormley or Taco and/or Lewis with the Steelers

Also would think Peppers would be a HUGE star with the Cowboys.

Note: I have no NFL affiliation. Just tend to root for Michigan players.

Another MGoCowboys fan here (how many of us are there?). The Cowboys need difference-makers on defense so they won't need to lean so hard on their excellent offense -- the D dug too big a hole against Green Bay in the playoffs. If either Peppers or Taco fall all the way to 28 (very unlikely, IMO, especially Taco, who's zooming up boards), the Cowboys will snap that guy up. I wouldn't mind them taking Jourdan Lewis at that pick either, though I think they prefer bigger CBs in their defense. Really too bad that Lewis's size seems to be dropping him on so many boards -- somebody's going to get a steal picking him in Round 2.

The Cowboys also have a fine tradition of blowing 2nd round picks on mediocre TEs in recent years searching for Witten's heir-apparent, so maybe they'll get it right this time and steal Jake Butt at the bottom of Round 2.

Would be nice to have at least one Wolverine to root for on the Cowboys, especially with having to root for Ezekiel Elliott on the team...

but if I was we'd have to get together since you're in NoVa.  I defintiely watch them though.  I'll be honest, I was so happy Zeke was out of Columbus I was ready to root for anyone who drafted him.  I would love to see Peppers with them.  He could be a difference maker on a defense that is solid but lacks playmakers. And as long as Cousins is with the Redskins, I will always root against them.  Redskin tears are even more delicious than Sparty tears believe it or not.

Since my primary NFL interest is following our alumni, preseason is when I can get cheap seats on Ebay and see our rookies get playing time, even those who might be UDFAs.  With both the Jets & the Giants here, that means at least 6 other teams coming in to play them, and the number of guys in the picture, the odds are pretty good this year there'll be at least one game of interest.

Don't worry - the Pats will move up and grab Wormley ahead of the Lions. And when he turns out to be everything we ever thought he could be and more once he's on that team, they'll say "Same old Pats" and "Same old Lions."

The Pats see talent where no other team can find it, and take other team's cast-offs and win SB with them. They're in another realm as a franchise, can't really think of another team in the free agent era to even compare them to except maybe Jeter's Yanks - and they had no salary cap to deal with!

I still seldom let a day go by without reminding everyone in SF I told them the 49ers should've taken Brady in 2000 - not "rifle armed" Giovanni Carmazzi around 100 picks higher! The only thing that's gone right for the 49ers since that day was hiring a former Michigan QB to coach the team - and they F'd that up!!!

The Spurs are right there on the same level, maybe even better.

Also have five titles over the span of about the exact same time.  They may be even a little further ahead at this point, since they've turned their entire roster over and have managed to stay one of the top 3 teams in the league without Tim Duncan.  The Pats haven't had to remain elite without Brady yet.

I don't really get why there's no love for Lewis.  Yes, he's undersized, but everything I see has him out of first and talked about as a nickle corner. Did nobody see him shut down high level receivers much taller than him game after game?  It's like the scouts are looking just at measurables and totally ignoring tape.  Some smart front office is going to draft him way later than he deserves and reap the rewards for years.

The combine/draft is pretty much nonsensical. Teams are looking for any excuse to NOT draft a player (or, if Al Davis, TO draft a player). A bad corner who is taller gets prioritized over a good corner who is shorter. It's all about the "measurables". Ever year, one guy who is a workout warrior raises his value spectacularly during this period. Look for that guy on next year's "biggest draft bust" list.

Actually, the combine matters quite a bit, specifically for pass rushers. A guy named Justis Mosqueda has been quantifying athleticism as related to NFL production on this for a while-you can read the introduction to what a Force Player is here: http://playmakermentality.com/what-is-a-force-player A lot of teams also use a rating called SPARQ to combine measurables into one number-the Seahawks pioneered it and it's becoming more adopted by the year. Anyone who cares can read about it at http://www.fieldgulls.com/seahawks-analysis/2013/5/16/4338100/sparq-a-f… And there's a site called mockdraftable.com that produces spider charts that display percentile results for any given drill by players historically at his position, as well as allowing a comparison to other positions so it is useful for guys who may have to change position at the pro level.

It's why so many players go to train for the combine rather than training to get better. A great 40 or shuttle time can be worth more than your game film or a great week at the senior bowl. It sucks to see a guy who did so much for the team fall like this, but I think it will allow him to end up with a team who knows how to deploy his skillset, which will lead to bigger paydays down the line.

I think there are a lot of really good defenders this year. And 2 or 3 corners who have better size (read: height) He's still a top 5 corner, but there might only be 4 corners taken in the first round and a half...because there are SO many good DL.

Belichick pick.  Great track record, his kind of program and coach, team captain and loves to play football.  Where other coaches who are looking immediately, Belichick isn't afraid to draft a player and let him either IR-red shirt, or PUP and bring back later in the year.  Hope to see BB develop a Harbaugh pipeline, since he likes to draft players from specific programs.  Maybe an appearance at Michigan Pro day.

Butt does seem like a Patriot type of guy but I think the Pats will be hesitant to take an "Injury prone" TE after having to deal with gronk all these years

Peppers has to be the hardest player in the 1st round for these analysts to predict. Ive seen him go in the top 10 in numerous boards. The combine will truely decide his fate. I think he'll blow the 40 out of the water and have teams drooling over his performance

Dabroh will be a surprise. 2nd round pick

I love the kid and think he'll be a solid NFL player. But when the SI mock draft linked above has an explosive WR like OU's Dede Westbrook going near the bottom of the 3rd round, it's really hard to see Darboh going any higher than that.

I agree w/you on Peppers -- very hard to predict where he'll go in a mock. But all it takes is one team to fall in love with him and see him as Troy Polamolu 2.0 to land him in the top 15 -- and someone probably will. No doubt some teams are even encouraging the "Peppers isn't really that good" talk in hopes that he'll fall to their spot.

I came to this thread simply to say that I despise mock drafts. They're so pointless and every analyst in America feels the need to have a new mock draft every week (why do they change so often?).
