Michigan CB Commit Andre Seldon Going HAM at UA practices

Submitted by Bodogblog on December 31st, 2019 at 7:14 PM

He won Top Performer for Defense after today's Under Armour All-America practice.  He had "at least" 3 interceptions in this practice alone, as well as several pass break-ups.  If any of you have 247 subs (I hope the link below is not $), Sam Webb has been going on and on about him this week.  Says he can be a Day 1 starter at nickel corner, leaving Dax Hill free to concentrate on safety.

"Seldon has had a very good week and looks like one of the top nickel corners in the country."  - Greg Biggnins

Seldon is a 4* CB from Belleville, and many may know that he's an excellent player, but is viewed as limited by his height.  He's listed at 5'9" but that may be generous.  He competes like a beast, however, and he always seems to answer the bell on the field.  For those worried about his height, see this play below, in which he goes against 6'8" freak athlete and 5* #10 player in the country Darnell Washington.  This kid can help Michigan win a lot of games.

Apologies, my attempts to link the tweet are unsuccessful.  I'll keep trying, but would appreciate anyone more technically able than myself lending a hand.  The video is absolutely worth seeing.

We could use him tomorrow. Metellus will get beat deep more than three times. He doesn’t have the speed to go up against elite receivers.

I keep seeing Seldon ball out all year but see that 5'8 & have nightmares of B. Cissoko but man this kid just keeps making plays no matter what.  The video of him vs the 6'8 TE where he even breaks up that play is great to see; I know that it's too early to say but man this kid looks like a legit baller despite his size

It should be noted that 247 - generally the most reliable of the rating sites given they seem to put the most effort into it - is the limiter on Seldon's rating.  His composite is #233, the #16 CB, and #5 in Michigan.  Rivals has him as a 4*, the #232 player, #20 CB, and #4 in the state.  ESPN has him as a 4*, the #161 player, #14 CB, and #4 in the state.

247 has him as a 3*, the #355 player, the #29 CB (note that the #28 CB is a 4*), and #5 in the state.  It will be interesting to see if 247 bumps his ranking after his showing this week.  Would seem difficult not to.

He may be able to play boundary or field corner despite his size.  But as a nickel or slot corner - which is an increasingly frequently used player against today's offenses - he seems an excellent fit.

I don't see that.  Assuming Ambry Thomas returns, we have two ready starters with he and Vincent Gray.  I know this blog is down on Gray, but I saw a developing player in his first year of reps, someone who showed a lot of promise for the future.  You put a second year Dax Hill at safety along with Brad Hawkins, and that is a very good B1G secondary.  Will it beat OSU?  Well you'd have to see some development (and some playmaking - for a decade we've had zero playmaking against OSU).

Corner depth seems scary, sure, but last year at this time we were all fretting CB depth as well.  DJ Turner had some positive mention in Fall camp.  And with George Johnson moving to corner, the Greens being in the program a while, Jalen Perry, and the freshman, who knows what's going to happen.  I'm not going to worry about it until Fall.

Well I believe 247 is the site that puts the most NFL projection into their rankings which would explain the skepticism on their part.  I believe I have heard Steve L. comment (I realize he has no input on rankings) that Seldon would/should be considered for 5-star status if he were “a few inches taller”.

Kid looks impressive from the clips I have seen from the UA practices.  While his height may limit his NFL potential — the MSU kid that just declared for the draft (Josiah Scott) was lower ranked coming into college than Seldon, is listed at a generous 5’11”, and started from day 1 for MSU - earning Frosh all-American status in the process.  If Ambry returns next year I think we will be in pretty good shape with Seldon as a 3rd/slot corner even if no one else steps up.

As expected.   He's another Ray Crockett..... it will be stars from Michigan like him that will bring back prominence in the rivalry.

Everyone can't be Woodson.  There is a reason he was a generational player.

If he's got speed and technique then I'm not too worried about his height.  Sure, he will get beat by some jump balls, but if the QB puts the ball in a perfect spot it's probably going to be completed against most corners.

I will PROUDLY eat my crow if he becomes the starting nickel. Pleeeeease make me eat crow. A stick of butter. I don't care. Just be an elite nickel. Dear God, that could save our season.
