Michigan Baseball News - Past and Future

Jacob Cronenworth, erstwhile Michigan closer and infielder, continues to thrive with the Padres. Playing first, second and short, but not pitching, he has an .886 OPS and is considered the favorite to win the NL rookie of the year of the war. Current Michigan lefty Stephen Hajjar is listed by Baseball America as the #7 player on its 2021 College MLB Draft Prospects list.

Cronenworth is hitting .303, pretty damn impressive for someone who wasn't even a starter when the season began but is now a key cog in one of MLB's best offenses.

I think I'll become a Padres fan for this postseason.

His average has dipped about 40 points in the last few weeks, but he still looks good out there.  He displaced Profar, the guy they brought in to play 2B pretty early on, and it seems to be his job now.  Not sure we'll get to see him pitch outside of a major blowout situation.

I'm an SD resident who has watched more Padre action this year than probably in the previous 7-8 years combined.  Exciting team and they're definitely going for it with the trade acquisitions.

I'm glad they didn't. After living for many years in SW Michigan, I hate the Sox and all their front-running "fans", who nearly all disappear like roaches once the Sox return to their normal losing ways.  Blackhawks and Bulls and their fans are the same way.

But I'll make it a clean sweep, I hate the Cubs and Bears, too. Living across the Big Lake from Chicago does that to a person.

Their turds.

But mainly because FCC regulations say Berrien County satellite and cable can't allow for any Michigan stations, even though in NE Berrien Co I lived closer to Kalamazoo than to South Bend and Chicago.  If not for paying a little extra for BTN and FSD, I'd have been mostly shut out of TV viewing of Detroit pro teams and even occasionally Michigan Football and Basketball.

Sports reporting and highlight coverage is pretty much all ND and Chicago all of the time, whether TV, radio, or newspapers. That despite my maps that proved I lived in Michigan.

As well there have been 7 players in the past 2 drafts have been selected in the first 5 rounds.  Name 1 team with more...

Cronenworth was here for 3 years under Bakich, it’ll be exciting to see how many more break through in the coming years.

When the Padres pulled off their 7 player trade, Cronenworth was coveted by others but the padres wouldn’t include him. He is a stud, clutch hitting in the 6-7 slot

Ugg baseball. My son was one of the top recruits coming out of his juco as a pitcher.  Michigan was interested in watching him but covid shut down the season as well as the program. He’s now in the steelworkers union. Not a bad bounce back but man do I miss watching him make guys look they’ve never been in a batters box.
