Michigan up to #4 in the AP Poll
https://www.espn.com/college-football/rankings
Other big movers are UK up 11 spots, and BYU up 9. OSU is #3, the only other two Big Ten teams ranked are MSU at 11 and PSU has entered the rankings at 22.

We were #4 last week. Onward…

Biggest statistical outlier is MSU-affiliated Jack Ebling. Used to be with the Lansing State Journal when I was a kid back in the 80’s and 90’s but I think he’s since moved elsewhere. He has Michigan #5.
September 11th, 2022 at 5:57 PM ^
No, there are two wankers who put us 9th.
September 11th, 2022 at 6:31 PM ^
People like that shouldn’t be able to vote. WTF!
September 11th, 2022 at 9:47 PM ^
There a number of people with B1G logos (and one with Hawaii!) that have us at #5. Thanks for the love, jerks.
September 12th, 2022 at 11:04 AM ^
Not to mention what is different about last year and this year that tOSU should be universally ranked above Michigan?!
September 12th, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
While I think that we are, indeed, a top 5 team, if there was no such thing preseason rankings/starting spots and rankings were based on merit alone, us being #9 wouldn't be crazy to me. We've played literally nobody. Every team that Chuck has in front of us have played teams with more or less of a pulse. Even Bama, who probably should've lost, played a talented Texas team on the road and won. We can't say as much yet.
September 11th, 2022 at 7:23 PM ^
Fuck Chuck Carlton, whoever that is.
September 11th, 2022 at 7:44 PM ^
....and Nate Mink
September 11th, 2022 at 8:22 PM ^
Offset somewhat by four very wise people who put us at 3.
September 11th, 2022 at 8:35 PM ^
I was actually referring to his poll voting over time — not this poll or his ranking of Michigan. In the fine print at bottom it explains the first two columns are how far from the “norm” the voter tends to be. Ebling, who has Michigan #5 in the current poll, has the highest tendency to deviate from his peers’ votes on the whole (it’s what the numbers in the first two columns represent — and why he’s at the very bottom of the list of voters).
September 12th, 2022 at 11:36 AM ^
Ebling had Utah #7 and Florida at #19...
September 12th, 2022 at 9:51 AM ^
Miami is all over the place, from top 5 (Brett McMurphy) to unranked (Jon Wilner)
September 11th, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
Notre Dame with 23 votes 😆
September 11th, 2022 at 3:11 PM ^
I seriously think they have the talent - especially if you look at the very early mock NFL draft predictions. Their problem - a HC that should never have been named HC to take over a major CF program. Like a deer looking at headlights
September 11th, 2022 at 3:23 PM ^
To Hell with Notre Dame. I was very happy to see they’re 0-2
September 11th, 2022 at 3:39 PM ^
I was kind of hoping Notre Dame would be good this year just in spite of Brian Kelly.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:45 PM ^
Don’t worry - Brian Kelly has taken care of his own spiteful happenstance
September 11th, 2022 at 5:24 PM ^
Exactly. This is win-win!
September 12th, 2022 at 9:52 AM ^
Yep, the LSU fan base already hates him after one game
September 11th, 2022 at 5:36 PM ^
Why? Hope they lose every game. We need those recruits.
September 11th, 2022 at 5:53 PM ^
Yep. And the future game with Clemson should be a loss so they are likely staring at a mid-tier bowl game.
September 11th, 2022 at 6:45 PM ^
what have you seen about ND in these two games that auggests they are likely to be bowl-eligible this year?
September 12th, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
They've also got BYU and USC on the road, both currently ranked along with Clemson. ND is best case 7-5. Being bowl-eligible is definitely a concern for them.
September 11th, 2022 at 8:19 PM ^
I was hoping they'd be 1-1 with a loss to Marshall.
September 12th, 2022 at 10:47 AM ^
I was hoping for something else in Week 1, but the meteor NEVER comes through.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:55 PM ^
Quality losses
September 11th, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
These polls mean absolutely nothing yet. Still funny to see Ohio State fans on twitter claiming that they beat a top 10 team in Notre Dame though.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
Ohio States talking point for this week is “among three teams that had the chance, we were the only Top 10 team that beat a Sun Belt team.”
That is technically true.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
They should revisit the B1G West and their current B1G division alignments. The West is a total joke right now as the 4 top teams - UM, PSU, OSU and MSU - are heads above anything in the West and it's been that way for a few years now. The Conference heads need to do something.
September 11th, 2022 at 4:47 PM ^
I mean Hawaii is like really really sunny though lol
September 12th, 2022 at 4:51 PM ^
We dare not disrespect the Fun Belt. Especially our allies of 15 years from Boone, NC.
September 11th, 2022 at 4:54 PM ^
Notre Dame is now 36th in number of AP votes. And the game was pretty close.
September 11th, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
Hellz Yes!!!
September 11th, 2022 at 2:56 PM ^
I still think Alabama should be #1. Also, Texas should have been moved up some.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:23 PM ^
Bama looks better than Georgia to you?
September 11th, 2022 at 3:38 PM ^
Not saying one way or the other but it's still real early and I think people will find out that Texas has some serious talent. Plus, this early, too many teams are playing cream puffs so we really don't have a grasp who the top teams are.
And I'll say it again, look at some of the early NFL 2023 draft predictions, and ND has some really decent talent (especially their lines) but named a HC that wasn't qualified. The players wanted him though and that should never be the deciding factor. Those clowns are now paying the price and I love it
September 11th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
Texas may have some serious talent, but is beating them by one point in a game featuring some dodgy officiating enough to keep Bama #1? I don't know.
Georgia is not only the defending national champion but utterly crushed Oregon. It seems like an easy call to make them #1.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
Not arguing - Georgia would be my #1 also. Just saying that anybody that discounts Alabama is loco. I've read before this season that this is probably Saban's most talented team - they're my pick to win it all. And believe me - I can't stand them but just being realistic
September 12th, 2022 at 3:08 AM ^
Are the polls ranking teams based on perceived athletic ability or, you know, results on the field? This is the second time in as many posts that you indicate a team’s potential or talent expectation supersedes the eye test and actual W-L record.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:57 AM ^
I'm saying that it's still very young in the season and let this play out. Anyone that follows CF will tell you that the best time to upset a powerhouse - like Alabama - is early in the season before they get rolling. I said I'd put Georgia #1 - right now - but there is no way I'm betting against this Alabama team - I think they win it all
September 11th, 2022 at 3:28 PM ^
Texas moved from unranked to #21 with its “SEC quality loss”
September 11th, 2022 at 3:33 PM ^
Makes sense to me TBH. You think there are 24 teams that could take Bama to one point?
September 11th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
I know “quality loss is overused and SEC teams in particular benefit from their quality losses!!!” has become a meme.
But losing to Alabama by 1 on a last minute field goal. If that’s not a quality loss, nothing is.
Closest analogy to yesterday I can think of - Fresno States 2005 loss to USC, the Bulldogs going into the Coliseum and hanging right with USC most of the way. They moved up after that game.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:18 AM ^
I like to see teams rewarded for scheduling a tough game and playing really well in it. A one point loss to Alabama was more impressive than almost anything any other team has done this year
September 11th, 2022 at 7:25 PM ^
Texas should be higher, IMO.
September 11th, 2022 at 2:56 PM ^
Ohio, Michigan, & Clemson didn't move.
I was exact on 7 of top 10 in my thread. + had 14 of the top 15. I guess I win.
September 11th, 2022 at 2:58 PM ^
It was said that the winner gets respect, but I don’t see anyone giving you any?
September 11th, 2022 at 3:29 PM ^
Maybe cause there was only one other player.
