While I think that we are, indeed, a top 5 team, if there was no such thing preseason rankings/starting spots and rankings were based on merit alone, us being #9 wouldn't be crazy to me. We've played literally nobody. Every team that Chuck has in front of us have played teams with more or less of a pulse. Even Bama, who probably should've lost, played a talented Texas team on the road and won. We can't say as much yet.

I was actually referring to his poll voting over time — not this poll or his ranking of Michigan. In the fine print at bottom it explains the first two columns are how far from the “norm” the voter tends to be. Ebling, who has Michigan #5 in the current poll, has the highest tendency to deviate from his peers’ votes on the whole (it’s what the numbers in the first two columns represent — and why he’s at the very bottom of the list of voters).

Not saying one way or the other but it's still real early and I think people will find out that Texas has some serious talent. Plus, this early, too many teams are playing cream puffs so we really don't have a grasp who the top teams are.

And I'll say it again, look at some of the early NFL 2023 draft predictions, and ND has some really decent talent (especially their lines) but named a HC that wasn't qualified. The players wanted him though and that should never be the deciding factor. Those clowns are now paying the price and I love it

Texas may have some serious talent, but is beating them by one point in a game featuring some dodgy officiating enough to keep Bama #1?  I don't know.

Georgia is not only the defending national champion but utterly crushed Oregon.  It seems like an easy call to make them #1.

I'm saying that it's still very young in the season and let this play out. Anyone that follows CF will tell you that the best time to upset a powerhouse - like Alabama - is early in the season before they get rolling. I said I'd put Georgia #1 - right now - but there is no way I'm betting against this Alabama team - I think they win it all

I know “quality loss is overused and SEC teams in particular benefit from their quality losses!!!” has become a meme.

But losing to Alabama by 1 on a last minute field goal.  If that’s not a quality loss, nothing is.

Closest analogy to yesterday I can think of - Fresno States 2005 loss to USC, the Bulldogs going into the Coliseum and hanging right with USC most of the way.  They moved up after that game.
